Chapter 114
Chapter 114
“Did you catch it?”
Jiang Yunsui ran across the grassland. A moment later, she stepped into a little hole and fell, then climbed up and kept running-only to step into another little hole and fall again.
Her tiny face had gone slightly numb.
“Why are there so many holes?!”
“Hahaha…”
Fat Chef came over leading a horse. From behind, they had watched the tiny little thing run along, then vanish with a splat. The next second, she would stand back up in a daze.
She would run a few more steps, then vanish with another splat.
At first they had been worried, but by the end, they were laughing so hard they could barely stand it.
“They were all dug by pikas. There are a lot of pikas around here, and each pika digs more than one hole.”
Jiang Yunsui patted the bits of grass off herself. So why was she the only one this unlucky?
“Woof, woof.”
A dog barked, and Zuozuo came over with a tiny pika in her mouth.
It had already been bitten to death.
Jiang Yunsui glanced at it. The pika was absolutely tiny, only a couple sizes bigger than a mouse.
But even such a tiny little thing was far too good at digging holes. They were everywhere.
“There seem to be wolves over there. Let’s go take a look.”
“Little Yunsui shouldn’t come, right? We can’t exactly hang her from our belt while we kill wolves.”
Everyone looked at Jiang Yunsui.
Jiang Yunsui did not particularly want to watch them kill wolves either, so she nodded.
“Then I’ll wait for you here.”
“Heiwa, come with us. Zuozuo Youyou, stay here and watch Little Yunsui. Just play around nearby. Once we’re done killing the wolves, we’ll come find you.”
Jiang Yunsui nodded obediently.
After watching Fat Chef and the others leave, Jiang Yunsui first sat where she was and braided the grass on the ground into little plaits.
An empty grassland always gave people a sense of loneliness when there were few people around.
“Zuozuo Youyou, let’s go play over there.”
She had spotted an ugly Tibetan fox.
Youyou lay down and barked once at Jiang Yunsui.
“Huh? You’re carrying me over?”
She hesitated a little. She was much heavier than before. Could Youyou carry her?
“Woof!”
“Then let’s try. If you can’t carry me, put me down, okay?”
With much huffing and puffing, she climbed onto Youyou’s back. It was just enough for her to sit.
Youyou stood up and took a couple steps. Jiang Yunsui watched him nervously.
“Am I heavy?”
“Woof!”
Youyou began to run.
“Wow! Youyou, you’re so strong! Hahaha…”
Even if she could not ride a horse, she was riding a dog.
On the grassland, Jiang Yunsui’s soft laughter rang out. Over there, the Tibetan fox with a pika in its mouth drooped its square face and looked over.
When it discovered Zuozuo and Youyou, the two large mastiffs, it turned and bolted.
“Zuozuo Youyou, chase it!”
Jiang Yunsui grew interested and chased after the Tibetan fox.
Only after the fox ducked into a hole and refused to come out did Jiang Yunsui climb down from Youyou’s back. She stuck out her little bottom and lay at the entrance of the hole to peer inside for a while.
There seemed to be faint, young cries coming from within.
Jiang Yunsui knew they were the cries of baby foxes.
So it had cubs.
Jiang Yunsui placed the pika Zuozuo had caught earlier at the entrance of the hole.
“Here’s a little extra meal for you.”
“Come on, let’s go catch a few more pikas.”
The pikas: Oh, aren’t you noble. Aren’t you amazing!
With two mastiffs at her side, Jiang Yunsui ran rampant across this patch of grassland where, for the moment, no large beasts had been found.
Sometimes she even dug out the pikas’ food stores.
“There are no rabbits in this hole. On to the next one.”
Perhaps even the heavens could no longer stand her rampaging everywhere. From the next hole, Jiang Yunsui pulled out a snake, and a venomous one at that.
Jiang Yunsui sucked in a sharp breath, howled, and flung the snake far away.
“Woof, woof, woof…”
The two dogs barked in fright as well. It was not that they were scared for themselves; they were afraid the snake had bitten Jiang Yunsui.
Thank goodness, thank goodness. She hadn’t died.
Jiang Yunsui patted her chest and sat down. Only then did she finally register her surroundings.
Uh… where had she run off to?
She had promised Fat Chef earlier that she wouldn’t wander around.
Feeling guilty, Jiang Yunsui stretched out her little neck and looked around.
“Zuozuo Youyou, do you still remember the way back?”
In any case, everything around her looked exactly the same, and she was already a little lost. She couldn’t tell east from west, north from south, let alone remember the way back.
Mm. She was a Little Mushroom from the south. It was perfectly normal not to be able to tell directions, right?
The two dogs sat beside her, mouths open, tongues lolling far out.
All of a sudden, Zuozuo and Youyou both went on alert and looked in the same direction.
Jiang Yunsui’s furry head slowly poked out from behind Zuozuo, only a pair of round, bright eyes showing as she looked over too.
Some kind of animals were running across the grassland, and even the ground began to tremble faintly beneath them.
From so far away, she couldn’t see clearly.
But there seemed to be quite a lot of them.
She stood up and rose onto her tiptoes to peer into the distance.
“They look like horses.”
Then something occurred to Jiang Yunsui. She pushed the two dogs down and made them hide, lowering her own presence as well.
She was afraid the ones over there might be Barbarians riding horses.
If they were discovered, they would be in danger.
Fortunately, as the horses came closer, Jiang Yunsui realized there was no one on their backs.
Where had these horses run out from? Or were they wild horses?
“Zuozuo Youyou, let’s go take a look.”
Jiang Yunsui watched for a long while and found no one following behind the herd.
It really was a herd of wild horses.
The lead wild horse seemed to notice them.
But instead of being afraid, it neighed at Zuozuo and Youyou in provocation.
They had stopped running. The Wild Horse Leader was issuing a challenge to Zuozuo and Youyou.
Jiang Yunsui: “…”
No, wait. Weren’t they bullying them with superior numbers?
“Woof, woof!”
Zuozuo and Youyou barked back at the wild herd.
Jiang Yunsui hurriedly grabbed both their snouts.
She was practically panicking. “Don’t bark! We can’t beat them!”
Two not-yet-grown dogs plus her, the useless deadweight, fighting a whole herd of horses?
“Let’s talk this out nicely, okay?”
Jiang Yunsui stood between the horses and the dogs, trying her hardest to play peacemaker.
Seeing that the horses on the other side were about to charge over and trample them to death, Jiang Yunsui quickly brought out her ultimate trump card.
Imperial Flowing Essence.
The instant Imperial Flowing Essence appeared in her hand, Little Mushroom felt as if the wild horse leader’s eyes grew several degrees clearer.
Then it walked over on its elegant long legs.
In the face of Zuozuo and Youyou’s warning stares, it flicked its tail with utter disdain.
It lowered its head and ate the clump of Imperial Flowing Essence from Jiang Yunsui’s tiny palm.
The moment the Imperial Flowing Essence flowed into its body, the comfort made its ears twitch and its hooves tap tap tap against the ground, almost as if it were dancing.
Several horse faces suddenly popped out on either side of the Horse Leader.
They wanted to see what this thing was.
Jiang Yunsui trembled at the horse faces that had popped out so abruptly, and countless strands of Imperial Flowing Essence began drifting out from her body.
So fragrant!
The way the whole herd looked at Jiang Yunsui changed in an instant.
They crowded in eagerly, pressing close and nuzzling against her.
Jiang Yunsui was soon surrounded until she was dizzy and disoriented.
“No, don’t… don’t squeeze…”
Little Mushroom’s soft voice carried a few traces of helplessness. These horses were all so strong and sturdy. Tiny as she was, she couldn’t push them away. She absolutely couldn’t push them away at all.
By the time the Horse Leader drove the other horses off, Jiang Yunsui was completely dazed, her hair and clothes all mussed up.
She looked like a cat that had been thoroughly sniffed and cuddled.
Mm. Except this time, it was Little Mushroom who had been nuzzled by horses. A whole herd of horses, at that.
