Chapter 139
Chapter 139
“Good heavens, child! What happened to your hair? And your eyebrows?”
Jiang Yunsui, who had been baring her tiny teeth a moment ago, immediately tucked them away, her little face falling.
Ji Si and Ji Lu snickered inwardly. They had actually wanted to ask too, but Jiang Yunsui had only wanted to hear Shen Qingzhu’s story, and by the time he finished telling it, they had already arrived.
Jiang Yunsui gloomily touched her hair and eyebrows.
“They got singed by fire.”
Her little mouth puckered, and she began to pour out her grievances.
“Fat Grandpa, I had it so hard. Song Jin doesn’t know how to cook. The rabbit he roasted tasted awful-bitter and stinky, black on the outside and bloody inside. The roasted sweet potatoes were black on the outside too, and half raw inside. A stick couldn’t even poke through them…”
She had so, so much to say.
Song Jin crossed his arms. “You can’t blame me for that. Who told us to be so unlucky that the ones who knew how to cook didn’t come along?”
Fat Chef stroked Jiang Yunsui’s chubby little face, his heart aching for her.
“Oh, our Little Yunsui must have suffered so much. You’ve gotten thinner, definitely thinner.”
Jiang Yunsui nodded hard.
“Where’s Ji Yan’an? Where’s Ji Yan’an?”
Fat Chef picked her up. “Come on, Fat Grandpa will take you to the Young Master.”
The others arrived one after another, and they were all delighted to see Jiang Yunsui.
“Little Yunsui, what are you doing here?”
“Only you two came? Oh dear, what are we supposed to do now?”
Outside, an entire tribe was still watching them.
For the time being, they were staying in a cave.
Luckily, Ji Yan’an had been dressed warmly when they left. When they escaped from that tribe, they had not only taken horses, but also quite a few furs.
That was the only reason Ji Yan’an had not frozen to death here.
Shen Qingzhu was giving him acupuncture.
“Ji Yan’an.”
Jiang Yunsui climbed down from Fat Chef and trotted over to Ji Yan’an’s side.
“Waaah… I thought you were dead.”
Ji Yan’an: “…”
Excellent crying. Now stop.
“Is that little mouth of yours smeared with poison?”
Jiang Yunsui said, “No. I was just worried about you. But you still don’t talk very nicely.”
“Same to you. Didn’t you say I was dead the moment we met?”
“I said I thought!”
Jiang Yunsui stopped crying and leaned closer to him.
“But your face looks so pale.”
Really, just like a dead person.
She managed to slam the brakes on that last sentence in time.
But Ji Yan’an seemed to know exactly what she was thinking.
“Were you going to say I look like a corpse?”
Jiang Yunsui quickly shook her head. “I didn’t say that.”
Shen Qingzhu smiled and said, “How is it that the moment you two meet, you start finding each other annoying?”
They did not.
Jiang Yunsui’s big eyes rolled around and landed on Shen Qingzhu.
Shen Qingzhu thought, Damn it, why did I have to open my mouth? He had a feeling this little girl was not thinking anything good.
Sure enough, the next second, he heard the little girl say slyly,
“Shen Qingzhu, you almost got dragged off to be a live-in son-in-law?”
Those words, coming out in that soft, milky little voice, were admittedly not very pleasant to hear.
“Who told you that?”
Shen Qingzhu’s gaze turned dangerous, though he was still smiling.
Jiang Yunsui shook her head and refused to say who it was.
Shen Qingzhu gave a soft snort. That could absolutely be counted as part of his dark history.
“Shen Qingzhu, just tell me about it…”
With Jiang Yunsui, this chattering little thing, around, even the cave became much livelier.
Jiang Yunsui loved gossip, but she had not forgotten Ji Yan’an either. She sprawled across his knees and sent some Imperial Flowing Essence into his body.
Her fair, plump little hand also held onto his fingers, poking them this way and that.
Ji Yan’an only felt a warm heat spreading from the hand she held, so he simply let her do as she pleased.
“What happened to your hair and eyebrows?”
Ji Yan’an stared at her unusual new look as he asked.
Shen Qingzhu pinched her little face and examined her carefully.
“Even your eyelashes got hit. This was singed by fire, wasn’t it?”
Jiang Yunsui puffed out her cheeks and gave a muffled mm-hmm.
“I added too much oil when I was roasting mushrooms, and the fire whooshed up all at once and burned me like this.”
“Song Jin was super awful. He laughed at me for ages.”
“There wasn’t a mirror, and there wasn’t even a pond. I still don’t know what I look like.”
“Am I very ugly?”
She asked it worriedly. She did not want to be an ugly Little Mushroom.
“Ahem. You’re fine.”
There was laughter in Shen Qingzhu’s eyes.
The corners of Ji Yan’an’s mouth also lifted slightly.
Jiang Yunsui believed them.
“That’s what I thought! With how pretty I am, I’d look good no matter what. I’d even look good without hair!”
Hands on hips, Little Mushroom was extremely confident in herself.
Shen Qingzhu held back a laugh. “Then shall we try the no-hair look another day?”
Jiang Yunsui touched her hair. “Forget it, forget it. I have so much hair, and it’s so pretty. No way.”
“Food’s here…”
Fat Chef’s enthusiastic voice rang out.
Jiang Yunsui was overjoyed. At last, she could eat a proper meal.
But she did not notice that Ji Yan’an’s and Shen Qingzhu’s faces fell at once.
There was no other reason. There were no vegetables here, and no staple food either. Only meat.
The staple food had long since been eaten up. Vegetables were already hard to come by on the grasslands, and now, in this early spring season, there wasn’t even a tender blade of wild grass in the woods, let alone wild greens.
Aside from Jiang Yunsui and Song Jin, everyone else’s complexion turned waxy yellow at the sight of today’s food.
“Delicious, delicious…”
Tears filled Jiang Yunsui’s eyes. “Fat Grandpa, your cooking is way too good.”
Fat Chef smiled when he saw how happily she was eating, but soon he could not smile anymore.
“Sigh. Eating meat every single day won’t do. We still have to find a way out.”
The three dogs were pure carnivores, so they were eating happily enough.
Even that little fox had minced meat to eat.
It had really made something of itself. It was actually eating bear meat!
“Why aren’t you eating? Ji Yan’an, hurry and eat, or you won’t get better.”
Ji Yan’an picked up his bowl, took a small sip of meat soup, then set it down again.
He really felt a little nauseous.
“What’s wrong?”
Little Mushroom was bewildered.
Nanshu was so distressed that he kept urging the Young Master to eat more.
“What else could it be? It’s all meat. We’ve been eating like this for days. Even we can’t stand it anymore, let alone the Young Master.”
Their Young Master truly had it too hard.
Jiang Yunsui blinked.
“You want vegetables?”
She looked at Song Jin. “Have we finished all our mushrooms?”
Mushrooms!
At those words, everyone’s ears instantly perked up, and they all looked toward Song Jin.
Song Jin finished a piece of meat. “No.”
“Where are they?”
Several people asked in unison.
Then Song Jin took out the mushrooms.
There were shiitake mushrooms, button mushrooms, and wood ear mushrooms.
The others’ eyes lit up as they stared at the mushrooms.
“Quick, quick, quick. Go make something for the Young Master.”
Fat Chef and the others hurriedly nodded. “Right away, right away.”
Once the mushroom meat soup was made, and with Jiang Yunsui there as well, Ji Yan’an finally managed to eat a bit more.
The mushrooms Jiang Yunsui had grown were wonderfully fresh and savory, even elevating the flavor of the meat by more than one level.
Ji Yan’an’s long-suffering stomach was finally satisfied.
Even his complexion looked a little better than before.
Nanshu hugged Jiang Yunsui and wept with joy.
“Thank goodness you came. Thank goodness you came, Little Ancestor!”
