Chapter 7

Ji Yan’an suddenly felt exhausted and didn’t want to speak anymore.

He pinched the bridge of his nose. “Uncle Li, you tell her.”

Uncle Li stepped forward. “It’s about those two women you had a conflict with earlier.”

“Were the things you said really spoken by them?”

Jiang Yunsui finally realized what was happening and nodded. “Yes, they were.”

Ji Yan’an’s fingers tapped rhythmically on the tabletop. He stared at her with dark, sunken eyes and asked in a flat voice, “You can make anyone ignore you?”

Even if Jiang Yunsui hadn’t said anything, he naturally knew the background of those two women. He hadn’t planned on keeping them around for long anyway.

However, he had now encountered someone far more interesting.

Jiang Yunsui rubbed her eyes and yawned, her head drooping listlessly as she answered.

“Mm-hmm.”

“Have you had this ability since you were a child?”

Jiang Yunsui looked innocent. “I guess so?”

Ji Yan’an stared at her fixedly for a long while, making Jiang Yunsui feel extremely uncomfortable, as if she wanted to burrow into the ground and escape.

But she couldn’t burrow anywhere now. QAQ

“Do you want to stay?”

Finally, Ji Yan’an nonchalantly looked away and picked up a cup of tea to drink.

Jiang Yunsui’s eyes lit up. “I do!”

She had no home now. If she went outside, she could head into the deep mountains; she wouldn’t starve herself to death, regardless.

But then there wouldn’t be any good food, and she wouldn’t be able to resolve her karma.

Among the people she currently knew, this Young Master Ji seemed to be the most powerful. She still wanted to see if she could cling to his coattails.

Ji Yan’an toyed with the teacup in his hand, the corners of his mouth curving upward.

“You want me to help you get revenge?”

Jiang Yunsui’s eyes grew even brighter, and she nodded like a little chicken pecking at grain.

She looked like a super-gullible white rabbit, while sitting across from her was an insidious big black wolf.

“I can. However, the Ji Family does not support idle people who eat for free.”

Jiang Yunsui looked at him with a face full of ignorant innocence.

“It just so happens those two maidservants made a mistake, and I’m missing a maid to wait on me. From today onward, you will be my personal maid.”

Jiang Yunsui blinked. Huh? Her?

What did a maid do?

“Okay!”

Whatever, she would stay for now.

She agreed loudly and crisply.

Then she let out another yawn. “So, can I go back to sleep now?”

Ji Yan’an replied, “What sleep? As a maid, you naturally have to watch over your master while he sleeps.”

Sleep? Why should she sleep? He couldn’t sleep, and seeing others sleeping comfortably made him feel unsettled.

Jiang Yunsui felt like the sky was falling!

“I…”

“Come in. Stand guard by my bed.”

Ji Yan’an admitted he just had a wicked urge to tease this little idiot who looked so easy to bully.

When he turned around, Jiang Yunsui threw a flurry of messy little punches at the air, her cheeks puffed out in anger.

As a Little Mushroom who felt she was being horribly bullied, she didn’t actually dare to hit him for real.

So frustrating! She couldn’t win in a fight.

Uncle Li, standing behind them: “…”

This little girl really didn’t take him seriously at all.

In the end, Jiang Yunsui dejectedly followed him into the room.

Once inside, her eyes widened. Wow… such a big room, such a beautiful bed.

The emotions on the girl’s face were far too easy to read.

Ji Yan’an’s mood somehow improved a bit.

Once her background was checked and confirmed to be clear, it wouldn’t be bad to keep this little idiot by his side to tease every now and then.

At the very least, he didn’t have to scheme and calculate everything in front of her.

Everything this little idiot thought was written right on her face.

“Young Master, the medicine is here.”

An old nanny walked in carrying a bowl of bitter-smelling medicine.

The scent was so strong that Jiang Yunsui took small, quick steps to move far away the moment she caught a whiff of it.
With her presence minimized, the others in the room failed to notice her movements. Jiang Yunsui hid behind Uncle Li, poking her head out to steal a glance.

She watched as Ji Yan’an downed that bowl of dark, foul-smelling liquid without so much as a change in expression. Jiang Yunsui’s eyes widened. Her shocked expression made it look as though Ji Yan’an wasn’t drinking medicine, but poison.

“You may go. Close the windows tightly.”

Ji Yan’an didn’t like having people watch over him while he slept; he had only said those things to Jiang Yunsui earlier to tease her. Once Uncle Li and the nanny had departed, Ji Yan’an sat on the bed, feeling as though he had forgotten something.

“Does that stuff taste good?”

The sudden, childish voice near his ear startled him. Ji Yan’an looked down and saw a certain child crouching not far away, having crept back at some unknown point.

Ji Yan’an: “…”

He knew he’d forgotten something.

“What does it taste like?”

Seeing that he didn’t answer, Jiang Yunsui didn’t feel awkward at all and took the initiative to ask again.

Ji Yan’an gave a half-smile. “Why? Do you want a taste?”

Jiang Yunsui recalled the smell of the concoction. Suppressing her curiosity, she shook her head.

Ji Yan’an leaned back against the headboard. “You can leave on your own once I’ve fallen asleep.”

He was well aware of his own condition. He relied on medication just to barely drift off, yet he was easily startled awake-to say nothing of the fact that he wouldn’t be able to sleep at all with someone nearby. His suggestion was merely a small test. He wanted to see what Jiang Yunsui would do while he was pretending to sleep.

Jiang Yunsui didn’t suspect a thing and gave a compliant “Oh.”

Then, she sat down cross-legged beside Ji Yan’an’s bed. Propping up her little chin with her hands, she stared at the youth on the bed with her large, watery eyes.

Ji Yan’an gritted his teeth and kept his eyes shut. *I told you to watch over me, not stare at me!*

He tried his best to relax. While keeping a fraction of his attention on Jiang Yunsui, his mind drifted to the difficulties he currently faced. The Ji Family Army was massive. Although most of the men accepted him because of his grandfather, father, and uncles, it was inevitable that other factions had planted spies within the ranks.

Those outsiders were constantly sowing discord. While the Ji Family Army trusted him for the time being, the military was a place where strength spoke loudest. Human hearts were unpredictable; he wasn’t naive enough to believe that the sentiment felt for his elders would be enough to make the entire Ji Family Army support him forever.

Therefore, he still needed to lead them to a few decisive victories. But his body…

As he pondered, Ji Yan’an’s consciousness gradually blurred.

He didn’t see that the tiny person guarding his bedside had long since fallen asleep. As she breathed, invisible energy spores drifted out and were absorbed by the person on the bed.

This was the best sleep Ji Yan’an had ever had.

It was so good that when Uncle Li arrived for his shift before dawn, he was instantly delighted to find that Ji Yan’an hadn’t woken up yet.

“Keep it down,” he whispered to the servants behind him who were prepared to help Ji Yan’an wash up.

“Go back for now, but keep everything ready. I’ll call you when the Young Master wakes.”

“Yes.”

Uncle Li paced happily by the door. It wasn’t easy for the Young Master to get a good night’s rest; he couldn’t let anyone disturb him.

An hour later, there was finally movement inside the room.

Ji Yan’an woke from his slumber feeling exceptionally refreshed. His entire body felt much lighter. He was somewhat surprised-could it have been yesterday’s medicine?

“Uncle Li.”

He stood up, and his foot stepped on something soft. He looked down, and his eyelid twitched.

Just then, Uncle Li walked in upon hearing his voice, a clear smile on his face.

“Young Master, you…”
