Chapter 323
Chapter 323
The remaining uniforms were still being rushed to completion.
The soldiers who had not yet received theirs were envious, but also even more eager.
Jiang Yunsui later handed the textile workshop entirely over to Youngest Aunt.
For now, nearly all the cloth went to the Ji Family Army, so the workshop had made little profit.
Second Aunt found that laughable.
“I told you so. What money could a child make? Yet they all joined her nonsense and invested everything. Let’s see whether it hurts when they lose their silver.”
The maids and older servants beside her hurried to flatter her wisdom.
Second Aunt lifted her chin proudly.
“Hmph. Once they lose money, let’s see how they show off in front of me.”
Of course, she said all this only within her own courtyard.
Jiang Yunsui had placed the textile workshop fully in the hands of Youngest Aunt and Ji Yan’an’s eldest sister-in-law, Liu Huan.
She had other matters to attend to.
She was going to the estate to pick peaches.
The peach trees there had been thriving even before they were transplanted.
After the transplanting, she stayed several days so she could sneak out late at night, absorb Moonlight Essence, draw down the Power of the Stars, and spread it across the orchard.
During those days, the fruit trees, grass, and other plants grew wildly each day.
The strange sight terrified the estate workers, but under Ji Yan’an’s arrangements, it was presented as an auspicious blessing.
As for Jiang Yunsui, she kept herself neatly out of sight.
She went only at night and slipped back unnoticed. No one ever discovered her.
The estate’s peach trees bore an exceptionally abundant crop this year.
The fruit was not as large as that near the residence, but it was still two or three times larger than ordinary peaches.
She took a crowd of animals to the estate and ran everywhere.
She had mainly come to play.
Other people could pick the peaches.
“Little White, run that way. We haven’t been over there yet.”
Jiang Yunsui lay against Little White’s back, her small arms clasped tightly around its neck.
Little White did not run fast and kept a steady pace.
It was afraid of throwing off its rider.
They became carried away with running.
By the time they noticed, everything around them was unfamiliar.
Sitting on horseback, Jiang Yunsui raised her little head and looked around.
Then she stroked her chin and sank into deep thought.
“Am I about to have bad luck again?”
Misfortune had given her plenty of experience.
Nothing unlucky had happened for quite a while, and she was almost unaccustomed to it.
Ji Si and Ji Lu, hidden nearby: ……..
At least you know yourself rather well.
Jiang Yunsui waved a hand. “Whatever. If I’m unlucky, I’m unlucky. I won’t die anyway.”
She was remarkably resilient. Though unlucky, she had never suffered anything fatal.
It hurt sometimes, but her ability to heal herself was now extremely strong.
And so Little Mushroom continued racing about gleefully.
Then…
She fell into a river!
“Awooo… I was just… pfft… watching Little White drink… glug glug…”
She had merely crouched beside the river to watch Little White and the others drink. Yet the patch of ground beneath her collapsed, dropping her straight into the water.
The river was broad and the current rather swift. Jiang Yunsui swam upward with all her strength, but it was completely useless. QAQ
Zuozuo, Youyou, and the others anxiously leaped into the river after her.
Milk Tea, Huohuo, and the other birds circled frantically overhead, while the two horses raced along the bank in alarm.
Oh, and there were two people as well.
Their legs moved so fast they nearly smoked.
“You knew you were due for bad luck, so why did you run somewhere dangerous?”
Ji Lu slapped his thigh in panic.
Ji Si said nothing and simply kept chasing.
After Jiang Yunsui swallowed several mouthfuls of water and rolled her eyes,
she soon gave up peacefully. Treating herself like a leaf, she let the current carry her.
“I’m fine. Don’t worry.”
Once she stopped struggling, she found herself bobbing with the water. Not only did she stop choking, it was rather fun.
“Si Si, Liu Liu, don’t worry. I’m fine. Hehe… this is actually fun.”
Ji Si and Ji Lu: ……..
What do you mean, fun?!
After an unknown length of time, the rushing river swept Jiang Yunsui downstream.
“Oh no! There’s a waterfall ahead!”
Ji Lu’s eyes widened.
Jiang Yunsui began struggling again and saw the current growing faster ahead.
She: ……..
Uh-oh.
Her little face immediately filled with the misery of someone cursed by fate.
“Woof! Woof!”
Zuozuo swam over with all her strength and caught Jiang Yunsui’s clothes in her teeth.
Youyou bit Zuozuo’s tail. Behind him stretched a whole chain of animals: the snow leopard, a wolf, and several wolf-dog pups.
Ji Si and Ji Lu jumped into the water too.
Despite so many people and animals pulling with all their strength, they still could not get Jiang Yunsui ashore.
The next instant, the current swept everyone up and hurled them over the waterfall together.
“Aaaaaah!”
The Heavenly Dao: I’m sending you things, you troublesome creatures.
After a dizzying tumble, the people smashed down below the waterfall could barely tell where or when they were.
Fortunately, the river below was much calmer and no longer flowed so fiercely.
Milk Tea, Huohuo, and the others seized the opportunity and finally dragged the entire group ashore.
“Cough, cough, cough…”
Jiang Yunsui coughed up water several times in succession.
At last, she got onto all fours and spat out the rest.
“That was… so exciting.”
It hurt a little. No… it hurt terribly!
Her bones felt as if they had been taken apart.
She lay still and silently circulated the energy inside her.
Ji Si and Ji Lu rose with grimaces of pain.
“Are you all right?”
The two men rolled the prone little girl over.
Jiang Yunsui waved a hand.
“I’m fine.”
“Give me a moment.”
The two simply sat down.
“Where did the river carry us?”
Ji Si said, “I don’t know.”
Jiang Yunsui said, “I’ve never been here.”
Ji Lu wanted to roll his eyes. Obviously. He did not need either of them to say it.
Then again, he had asked an obvious question.
Once Jiang Yunsui had mostly recovered, she became lively again.
She also replenished everyone else’s energy, animals and humans alike.
After all, struggling in the river had truly exhausted them.
“Come on. Let’s find a way out.”
Jiang Yunsui shook her head. “No. After all this bad luck, there must be something good here. Let’s hunt for treasure!”
Otherwise, all that trouble and misfortune would have been for nothing.
Ji Lu and Ji Si exchanged a glance and let her have her way.
But first, they had to tell Ji Yan’an they were safe.
They lit a fire to dry their clothes.
The weather was hot, so the clothes dried quickly.
At last, Ji Si tore a strip from his inner robe and wrote on it with a piece of charred wood from the fire.
“Pearl, take this message to Ji Yan’an.”
Pearl was a gyrfalcon and the fastest of them all. Even Milk Tea could not catch it.
Pearl cried out and voluntarily extended a claw so they could tie the written strip of cloth to its leg. Then it shot into the air and vanished in the blink of an eye.
Jiang Yunsui clapped her hands. “Let’s go. We’ll follow this way and see what we find.”
They now relied entirely on instinct.
And Jiang Yunsui had tremendous faith in her own instincts.
When she grew tired after walking for a while, she had a horse carry her.
The sun tilted westward and evening drew near, but she showed no anxiety at all. She was as leisurely as if she had come on holiday.
