Chapter 114
Chapter 114
The sight was honestly a little intimidating.
Forget Wang Qiang and Wu Dan freezing on the spot-even Wu Xiaojiu, who had seen his share of grand scenes, was momentarily stunned.
Bo Suihan had always kept a low profile and never let his people make such a show. On ordinary days, he could practically be described as a recluse. Even now, when he lacked for neither food nor drink and had every luxury at his fingertips, Bo Suihan still upheld the fine virtues of the flower-growing nation: thrift, and no waste.
But whenever something good or expensive came his way, he sent it streaming over to Wu Xiaojiu without hesitation.
And he even gave it a pretty excuse, saying that since his own work was busy and dangerous, he could only trouble Xiaojiu to enjoy those things on his behalf.
Those were minor things.
The real point was-
Wasn’t Bo Suihan supposed to be overseas taking over the Han Family’s corporate assets? These past few days, the two of them had only been talking over international video calls.
When had he secretly returned to the country behind his back?
Wu Xiaojiu got so excited that his foot twisted beneath him, and he staggered a step.
From the middle of the black-trench-coated men, Bo Suihan strode over in a coffee-colored overcoat, polished leather shoes gleaming on his feet, a row of diamonds set into the hat on his head, and an old gentleman’s cane in his hand. He caught Wu Xiaojiu by the arm in one swift motion.
“This excited? Did you miss me that much?”
His tone was teasing, but his eyes were utterly serious, fixed unblinkingly on Wu Xiaojiu. Even without saying it aloud, the expectation in them was obvious.
“How are you back?”
Wu Xiaojiu still hadn’t recovered. He pulled his arm out of Bo Suihan’s hold. Wang Qiang was clearly even more excited than he was, pointing at Bo Suihan and trembling so hard he couldn’t get a word out.
Only after a long while did he finally manage, shaking all over, to piece together a few broken words.
“Holy crap! Why are you dressed up so sharp and shiny? You’re totally different from before, when your face was all gray and you looked half-dead-like you could keep living if you had to, or die on the spot if you felt like it.”
Bo Suihan really was a different man now.
Not only was he materially well-off, his spirit had been nursed back into good shape too.
Loved properly by Wu Xiaojiu, the man who had once been somewhat gloomy and stubborn now looked much brighter and more open.
“Xiaojiu takes good care of me.” Bo Suihan tilted his head and smiled at Wang Qiang, then turned to look at Wu Dan.
Their eyes met.
Wu Dan was the first to cry out in surprise.
“It’s you! Why are you here? And how do you know Wu Xiaojiu?”
Bo Suihan stared at him for several seconds. It took him quite a while to dig Wu Dan’s name out of his memory.
Out of courtesy, he still smiled, bent slightly, and offered his hand.
Wu Dan hurriedly wiped his grease-covered hand all over himself before reaching out to shake Bo Suihan’s. Fear and anxiety filled his eyes.
“What brings you here, sir?”
Bo Suihan simply pointed at Wu Xiaojiu. “I checked the security cameras at home and saw that he’s been worried these past few days. I wanted to call and ask, but some things delayed me. Luckily, Wang Qiang came by today, and I happened to be watching the cameras. When I found out he was upset over Wu Yuting, I rushed back to see whether there was anything I could help with.”
He spoke with complete sincerity.
Wu Dan broke out in goosebumps, with a layer of cold sweat on top.
To keep the situation from getting worse, he spoke first, cutting in between Wu Xiaojiu and Wang Qiang. “Isn’t this just a flood washing over the Dragon King’s temple-family harming family? If I’d known Wu Xiaojiu’s lover was you, I would’ve let go of that wager agreement and Wu Yuting ages ago. Since you’re here, then this matter is settled. Xiaojiu just needs to give me a few tens of thousands to send me on my way, and as for his sister, he can do whatever he wants.”
Seeing that Wu Dan had finally relented, hope instantly flared in Wu Xiaojiu’s eyes. Without a word, he pulled out the card he had prepared earlier and stupidly handed it over.
Fortunately, Wang Qiang sensed something was off. He pressed Wu Xiaojiu’s hand down, first shaking his head at him, then turned to Wu Dan with a scrutinizing, almost-smiling expression.
“Weren’t you asking for a twenty percent stake just now? Now that the Wu Family has shot straight to the top overnight, even ten percent of its shares is worth far more than tens of thousands. Someone like you would never give up that kind of money. The reason you changed your mind…”
Wang Qiang turned to look at Bo Suihan, the smile vanishing from his face as he grew serious.
But Bo Suihan was still glued to Wu Xiaojiu, fussing over him and asking if he was cold, if he was hot, completely ignoring what was happening over here.
In the end, even Wu Xiaojiu couldn’t stand it anymore. He gave Bo Suihan a hard pat, and only then did the man straighten up and look at Wu Dan with cool indifference.
“A wager agreement? Wasn’t that some ancient project from back when I lent you money and had you partner with struggling companies so you could make a profit and split the dividends with me? How is it still dragging the Wu Family into things after all this time, and getting this messy?”
A sheen of sweat broke out across Wu Dan’s forehead.
Only then did it dawn on Wu Xiaojiu. He remembered that Wu Dan’s money had come from Bo Suihan in the first place. Strictly speaking, Bo Suihan was the one who had the final say over the wager agreement.
So he explained the whole situation to Bo Suihan from beginning to end, without leaving anything out.
Bo Suihan had been raised into a good temper over the years, but as the saying went, a leopard couldn’t change its spots. That stubborn, mischievous streak from his childhood was still buried deep inside him. On top of that, after going abroad and taking over the Han Family’s company, he had seen every kind of mess imaginable.
So after listening, he simply looked toward the men in trench coats behind him. With just one glance from the Dragon King, the group moved in all at once. They didn’t even give Wu Dan time to react. One pressed down on his shoulder, another seized his arm, and they lifted him up like he had been trussed head to toe.
Seeing that things were going wrong and that her son was finished, Wu Dan’s mother immediately went berserk, swinging her fists at the men in trench coats. But Bo Suihan’s subordinates were no easy targets. Without a word, one of them pulled a gun from his pocket and pressed it against Wu Dan’s mother’s forehead.
“All right, that’s enough. Throw them out, then clean up the wager agreement issue. Once that’s done, this matter is over. Don’t make a scene. The big day is coming soon, and it’s better not to spill blood.”
When had Wu Dan’s mother ever seen something like this? She collapsed to the floor with a thud. Bo Suihan had only just come back, and he still hadn’t clung to Wu Xiaojiu enough, so he had no mind to deal with this at all.
After giving a few perfunctory instructions, his men immediately dragged the Wu Dan family out.
Bo Suihan had always been someone people could trust to handle things.
In less than half an hour, after his men “politely” discussed the wager agreement with Wu Dan, Wu Dan gave in.
And just like that, the matter of the wager agreement was turned over for good.
Wang Qiang stared, dumbfounded. Just now, he and Xiaojiu had spent ages trying to persuade Wu Dan, using both kindness and threats, but Wu Dan had refused to budge from beginning to end.
He never expected that Bo Suihan could solve such a thorny problem with just one sentence.
“So this is power?”
Wang Qiang lowered his head and muttered to himself. Bo Suihan was sitting beside the barbecue grill, skewering meat, while Wu Xiaojiu was eating until his mouth shone with oil.
“Don’t overthink it. The money was mine to begin with. The wager agreement may have had his name on it, but the real decision-maker was me. Come sit down. You’ve been running yourself ragged these past few days too.”
Bo Suihan wasn’t good at saying warm, intimate things to anyone besides Wu Xiaojiu.
But he truly did regard Wang Qiang as a friend.
He stretched out one long arm, grabbed a stool from the side, and handed it over for Wang Qiang to sit on.
Wang Qiang smiled in understanding.
“Overthink what? I don’t have any dangerous ideas like that. But now that you’re back this time, how long are you planning to stay? Wu Xiaojiu has been worrying himself sick over that matter these past few days. As the other main party involved, shouldn’t you be putting in some effort too?”
…
