Chapter 102
Chapter 102
Moscow’s heavy metal detectors sensed danger.
The upper echelons of Europe reported it level by level, each of them looking grim as they stared at the heavy metal approaching from the distance.
Meanwhile, Wu Xiaojiu was sitting side by side with the man on the helicopter.
Because the man did not trust him. He kept feeling that Wu Xiaojiu was hurting the Soldier King, and had already decided that if they couldn’t find the abandoned aquarium in the suburbs of Moscow, or Bo Suihan, he would use his gun to gun Wu Xiaojiu down.
When the aircraft neared Moscow, the man suddenly stood up.
Holding a phone in both hands, his face awkward, he gritted his teeth and looked left and right. Seemingly unable to find a satisfactory candidate, he fixed his eyes on Wu Xiaojiu again.
“Can you speak English?”
Wu Xiaojiu nodded at him.
“This is important and highly classified. Nothing gets leaked.”
Once he got an answer, the man did not dawdle. After giving him a warning, he handed the phone to Wu Xiaojiu.
Wu Xiaojiu looked at him, then at the caller information, and burst out laughing.
“Everyone around Bo Suihan sure knows how to put on an act, huh? European higher-ups? Moscow administrators? Then I’m a capital city administrator.”
Still laughing, he answered the call under the man’s face, which had gone as black as ink.
The instant the call connected, the other side launched into a stream of rapid chatter.
“Are you planning to attack Moscow?”
Wu Xiaojiu froze for a moment, then froze again.
He raised a hand to summon the man over and translated the sentence for him.
The man scratched his head. Then realization suddenly dawned on him, and he tugged Wu Xiaojiu close to whisper in his ear.
“The guns contain a lot of heavy metal. They might have detected that on their end. Just explain it to them. It should be easy to get through.”
Wu Xiaojiu nodded, said “no” into the phone, then explained the reason to them.
The other end fell silent for two or three minutes. In the end, they said “OK, OK,” and hung up.
“Are foreigners always this easy to talk to?” The man scratched his head. Wu Xiaojiu sat in his seat, hissed softly, hugged his legs, and curled himself into a ball. “It’s also possible they think we’re joking and are planning to bring out their guns too.”
The moment he said that, the aircraft fell into an eerie silence.
Fortunately, the rest of the journey was steady.
They eventually landed safely. By now, another day had passed, and in Moscow it was just after midnight.
Wu Xiaojiu got off the aircraft and lifted his head.
He looked at the sky that blotted out the sun, showing not a trace of mercy for this land, and in that instant his heart felt like it had dropped off a cliff.
The times he and Bo Suihan spent together always seemed to be at night, in the early hours, when the sky was dark.
From the moment they met until now, there had hardly been a few days with good weather.
Just like the path they had walked hand in hand, it was twisted, cruel, and utterly devoid of sunlight-almost the exact opposite of Wu Xiaojiu’s entire personality.
He had spent his whole life soaking in a honey jar, a sunflower watered with honey. That he could survive so many days under overcast skies was not only because Bo Suihan had carefully watered him, but also because he himself kept growing vigorously toward the sun.
Filled with emotion, Wu Xiaojiu stuck his hands in his pockets and followed behind the man, searching for traces of Bo Suihan in the suburbs of Moscow according to the 3D display.
With a general location, plus a distinctive feature like an abandoned aquarium, finding Bo Suihan was practically effortless. In less than half an hour, clues and traces had been uncovered.
At just that moment, the dozens of helicopters behind Wu Xiaojiu’s aircraft also all landed. Several hundred people stood in a mighty formation on the outskirts of Moscow, looking rather impressive.
“There are more brothers behind us. We’ll find the boss first. The boss’s safety comes first!”
The speaker was probably the leader of the group behind them. After coming over to discuss things with the man, they roughly settled on a battle plan and prepared to rely on these few hundred people to rescue Bo Suihan first.
Listening to them make tense preparations off to the side, Wu Xiaojiu felt his heart hanging by a thread too.
It had already been over an hour since Bo Suihan was taken away. The outskirts of Moscow were so desolate; there had to be a reason Han Fu had brought him here, and him alone.
For example, it would be convenient for dumping a body.
The moment Wu Xiaojiu thought of Bo Suihan turning into a corpse, his hands and feet went cold. He trembled uncontrollably from head to toe, unconsciously curling in on himself as he sank into a state of extreme anxiety.
Fortunately, the man and the squad leader finished discussing the plan just then.
The two of them stood up at the same time. Wu Xiaojiu looked at them and briefly snapped out of his panic.
“In that case, we’ll proceed according to plan. When the time comes, you take the back door and I’ll take the front. It doesn’t matter if our team is sacrificed, as long as we make sure the Soldier King comes out unharmed!” the man said with a grave expression. The squad leader nodded at him. “Protecting the Soldier King is the mission passed down through generations of Soldier King Island. For hundreds of years, we have never failed and never stopped. If something happens to the Soldier King in our generation, it will be the greatest disgrace!”
The two of them expressed their loyalty to each other.
Then, following the directions on the map, they ran toward Bo Suihan’s location.
The several hundred people split into two groups, moving to surround the aquarium from the front and back according to the map. Any updates would be relayed through walkie-talkies, while the man’s squad was responsible for taking the lead.
That was why the man really did not want Wu Xiaojiu getting involved.
After the group had run a short distance, the man specifically pulled Wu Xiaojiu aside and earnestly tried to talk him out of it.
“I know the Soldier King means just as much to you, but look at you. Skinny arms, skinny legs, soft skin and tender flesh-you can tell at a glance you’re a kid who grew up in a big city. You can’t help us. You might even hold us back. Go back toward the plane.”
Looked down on again.
Wu Xiaojiu laughed speechlessly, raised his arm to show off his nonexistent bicep, then amused himself with his own overestimation.
“I won’t hold you back. I’ve already followed your Soldier King through blades, bullets, fire, and flood. This last stretch is nothing! Let me come with you!”
Qi Jiao had personally experienced how good Wu Xiaojiu was at pestering people.
He was just too clingy.
The man couldn’t win against him, and on top of that, they couldn’t afford to delay their progress. He had no choice but to let Wu Xiaojiu join them.
The group moved out in a grand procession. After traveling two or three li, they finally reached the target site. To avoid alerting the enemy and provoking Han Fu into killing the hostage out of rage, the several hundred people in this group concealed themselves near the aquarium windows. The man brought Wu Xiaojiu in through the main entrance, with a flashbang as the signal.
The aquarium had been abandoned for many years, but a small portion of the electrical facilities were still lit and usable. Large tanks and dead fish had all been left behind here.
Wu Xiaojiu held a small flashlight and walked forward on edge.
As they continued deeper inside, the two of them reached the dolphin exhibit. At last, a faint rustling sound came from within.
That noise also eased the man’s suspicions about Wu Xiaojiu somewhat. The two exchanged a glance, then the man lifted the curtain and led the way inside.
The moment he moved his foot, a sound came from within. It was an extremely low, hoarse male voice, quietly humming.
“The sun has set, but tomorrow it will climb back up…”
Late at night, in an abandoned aquarium on the outskirts of the city, filled with dead fish and short-circuiting electrical panels. Two people, two small flashlights, and then suddenly, a man started singing a nursery rhyme inside the aquarium.
No matter how you listened to it, it sounded like a horror story.
Wu Xiaojiu shuddered at first too, but he immediately perked up.
Because he recognized that man’s voice.
And he would never forget it for the rest of his life.
It was none other than Bo Suihan!
