Chapter 52

Wu Xiaojiu was forced back again and again, but Qi Jiao was no less unwilling to yield, pushing back with him step for step.

“Your possessiveness is way too strong. Even if you’re my best brother, I still can’t take it.”

Wu Xiaojiu waved his hands at him repeatedly, panic-ridden and at a loss.

Seeing him so timid, Qi Jiao stopped, his face turning dark.

After a moment of silence, he said, “Fine. Let’s say you’re going to see a friend. But no matter what, you have to keep the watch with you. It has location tracking. You already lost it once, and I don’t want it happening a second time.”

As he spoke, Qi Jiao lowered his eyes and gently stroked Wu Xiaojiu’s wrist.

The children’s watch gave off a faint red glow in the darkness.

“Okay, then it’s settled.”

The way Qi Jiao was acting sent a chill down Wu Xiaojiu’s back.

He didn’t even care what Qi Jiao was saying anymore and hurriedly agreed.

Qi Jiao stared at him for a long while, then silently stepped aside a few minutes later to make way for him.

Clutching his phone, Wu Xiaojiu slipped out at a run.

Even when he reached the front gate, his chest still felt tight and uneasy.

Especially with the rain outside, pouring down in chaotic sheets and striking the dirt, splashing up a wave of rank, foul stench.

It made him feel even more unsettled.

Wu Xiaojiu clicked his tongue. Even standing in the Wu Family’s own courtyard, he still didn’t feel safe.

He hurried toward the garage, and just before he got into the car, he happened to look up.

The rain was coming down in a deluge.

He suddenly saw Qi Jiao standing by the floor-to-ceiling window in his bedroom, hands in his pockets, looking at him with a dark, lingering gaze.

Rain streaked across the glass, blurring his face.

But when their eyes met.

The other man mouthed the words, “Have a safe trip.”

Wu Xiaojiu was so frightened he practically dove into the car, slammed the accelerator, and sped out of the Wu Family’s estate.

He drove northwest the whole way.

Maybe because the rain was too heavy, the traffic lights along the road were all out, and there weren’t many cars around. Wu Xiaojiu felt reassured enough to keep the gas down.

Thanks to Long Aotian’s Affection Points, the Wu Family was starting to get back on its feet as well.

Although the betting agreement was still there, they couldn’t afford to spend too lavishly in daily life.

But a car worth several million was still within reach.

The one Wu Xiaojiu was driving was the newly released Maserati Midnight Diamond sports car, a black body covered in diamonds.

It looked gorgeous driving through the rain.

Along the way, he occasionally passed a few young night riders chasing thrills.

When they saw his car roar past, they whistled at the window.

The Bo Family wasn’t far from where the Wu Family was now.

He arrived quickly.

Bo Suihan hadn’t given him a spare key, so Wu Xiaojiu could only park outside the marked space and run alone into the villa through the rain.

The Bo Family villa was lively enough during the day, with nannies, housekeepers, and servants everywhere. But tonight, the three-story villa was empty. Wu Xiaojiu ran all the way inside and didn’t run into a single person.

There wasn’t the slightest sound in the whole house, as if it were a dead residence with no trace of life.

Wu Xiaojiu felt a little creeped out.

He thought, It was so lively during the day. Why is it so deserted now that it’s raining?

Could Bo Suihan have given me the wrong address and sent me to an empty house?

The farther up he went, the stronger that feeling became.

The floors were spotless, not a speck of dust anywhere, and even the grout between the tiles had been scrubbed clean. Especially that crystal chandelier hanging straight down from the third floor to the first.

It only made the feeling seem even more certain.

At last, he ran to the very last room at the end of the east wing on the third floor. Wu Xiaojiu carefully turned the handle and, for some reason he couldn’t explain, quietly stepped inside.

He stood at the doorway and tried to peer in, wanting to see whether it was the same room where he had woken up before.

But it was pitch-black inside.

Before he could react, his lips suddenly warmed, and then he was pulled inside.
“You came.”

“Did you come here in the rain?”

Before he even reacted, he was pulled into an embrace. Bo Suihan buried his head in the crook of his neck, both arms wrapped around his waist like an octopus.

The force made Wu Xiaojiu’s whole body sway back and forth.

“No, what did you just touch my lips with?”
Wu Xiaojiu hissed and raised a hand to wipe the corner of his mouth. That strange sensation still lingered a little.

He turned back, trying to look at the person in the dark.

But Bo Suihan only gave a soft hmm.

Then he rubbed his face against the side of Wu Xiaojiu’s neck.

“That was a question, right?”

Wu Xiaojiu had run over from where he parked, and he’d gotten soaked in the rain.
It was a little cold.

Bo Suihan was warm. Held from behind like this, that warmth and the dampness rose up together.
It felt wet and hot, and not bad at all.

Wu Xiaojiu didn’t mind this kind of intimacy.

He lifted a hand again to wipe his lips, but the person behind him reached out and caught his fingers, pulling them down.

Bo Suihan kept humming softly, blowing warm air against the side of his neck.

“You’re so late. The rain is almost over.”

He had come all this way, through rain and fear, just to comfort Bo Suihan.
And now he was the one being reproached.

Wu Xiaojiu let out an exasperated laugh. If he could turn around, he really would have kicked him a couple of times.

“Something delayed me on the way. You’re already grown, and you’re still scared of thunder. Aren’t you embarrassed to say that out loud?”

If he couldn’t attack him physically, then he could at least mock him mentally.

Bo Suihan didn’t get angry. Instead, he laughed.

“I grew up on a mountain. Whenever the rainy season came and thunder rolled, the mountain would be especially terrifying. And the masters were naturally free-spirited; they often weren’t around to keep me company. At six or seven years old, I could only hide alone in a cave and watch the rain fall outside. My body was cold, and my heart was cold too.”

Playing pitiful and obedient.

Wu Xiaojiu silently complained about him in his heart.

He reached back to pat the head behind him and twisted in Bo Suihan’s arms, signaling that he shouldn’t keep holding him like that.

But Bo Suihan seemed to misunderstand and tightened his arms even more.

“Let me take my coat off. It’s a little stuffy.”

Only after hearing that did the pressure around his waist loosen a little.

But Wu Xiaojiu was still trapped in his arms; he just wasn’t being held so tightly anymore.

He turned around and looked at the flushed face in front of him.

Then he let out a soft sigh.

At last, he took off his coat in front of him.

“What exactly do you want? Hmm?”

Bo Suihan’s expression was unreadable. Seeing him like that, Wu Xiaojiu took a step forward.

As he reached out, Bo Suihan leaned his face into his palm and rubbed against it lightly.

He didn’t look like a powerful business magnate. He looked more like a pet dog secretly kept by some rich family.

“Always acting cute,” Wu Xiaojiu said with a laugh and a scolding tone.

But Bo Suihan really was hard to dislike when he looked like this.

Buzzzzzzzzz!

Before either of them could speak, Wu Xiaojiu’s phone rang first.

He’d been warned that for any non-important contact, his phone was usually set to Do Not Disturb.

When the vibration came through, Wu Xiaojiu thought it was his parents or his sister calling.

He abruptly sobered up and pulled his hand back from between Bo Suihan’s palm and cheek.

He took the phone from his coat pocket.

He tapped answer without thinking. When he saw the caller ID, Wu Xiaojiu was a little stunned.

It wasn’t one of his usual three important contacts.

Unexpectedly, it was Qi Jiao.

But because Qi Jiao contacted him so often, Wu Xiaojiu had long since set Qi Jiao’s private messages and every social app to Do Not Disturb.

Wu Xiaojiu touched his cheek.

He fell into a moment of thought.

When had he turned off Do Not Disturb for him?

“Where are you?”
The question came out the moment the call connected.

“At a friend’s place.”
Wu Xiaojiu answered calmly.
