Chapter 99
Chapter 99
“Are you crazy, or am I crazy? In business these days, how much money comes from clean hands? You want him to go hang himself because he thinks he’s too vicious? Even birthday wishes aren’t that ridiculous.”
Han Qianduo laughed so hard he was practically convulsing, showing every last bit of his gums.
Wu Xiaojiu looked at him like that and felt his temper flare. He reached out, lifted his arm, leaned over, and lightly patted Han Qianduo’s cheek.
Seeing real anger on his face, Han Qianduo half laughed, half stopped, and tried to cover his gums.
“Stop messing around. Today really isn’t like usual. I can say for certain that Han Fu is already here, and right now, who knows where he is in the capital, in which corner of Baijinghui.
“Wu Xiaojiu, you’re different from me. You’re different from both of us. You have a sister, a mom, a dad. You have a family. There are people who worry about you. You can’t be irresponsible with your own life just because you’re throwing a momentary tantrum.”
As Bo Suihan spoke, he crouched down, reached out, and cupped Wu Xiaojiu’s face, pinching the soft flesh of his cheeks as he looked at him with earnest, pleading eyes.
He looked at him with particular seriousness, almost as if he were tracing Wu Xiaojiu’s brows and eyes with his gaze.
Wu Xiaojiu’s mouth started to droop from his words, but he stubbornly shook his head.
“I’m not leaving. I’m staying here with you. I won’t drag you down.”
[That’s it, Host. Show your determination. Show your attitude. Let Long Aotian feel your sincerity, and let him fall for you because of it! The life-or-death battle is coming right up. No matter how strong Long Aotian is, he’ll still be vulnerable in the face of life and death. When the time comes, win him over in one fell swoop!]
The System cheered Wu Xiaojiu on inside his mind.
Wu Xiaojiu became even more determined. He stared fixedly at Bo Suihan, his eyes looking as if he were about to do something.
Bo Suihan had nowhere to vent his anger, and under that stare, he actually grew embarrassed instead.
“I’m not saying you’ll drag me down. It’s just that no one knows what might happen in a little while. No matter how powerful I am, I’m still flesh and blood. I’m afraid I won’t be able to protect you.”
Bo Suihan was a pessimistic child. The battle had not even begun, and he had already started digesting the worst possible outcome.
Wu Xiaojiu was amused by him and burst out laughing.
Then he reached back and pinched the soft flesh of Bo Suihan’s cheeks too.
“Can’t you hope for something good for me? You said it yourself. You’re strong. Maybe when the time comes, we’ll be the ones beating them until they run for their lives.”
Bo Suihan’s gaze shifted faintly. He lowered his eyes, his head dipping slightly, and stopped speaking.
Both of them fell silent.
Only their hearts kept thudding.
Silence was tonight’s Kangqiao, and a head quietly poked out from between their wrists.
With the back of his head facing Bo Suihan and his face turned toward Wu Xiaojiu, Han Qianduo giggled foolishly.
“How many times is this now? Heart to heart, is that it? Perfectly in sync, are you? How many times have you two shown off your love? My dad is already at the door, and you two are still here tugging back and forth. Do you have any respect for my dad at all?”
Han Qianduo bit into an apple, gnashing his teeth.
Wu Xiaojiu startled so badly he shuddered and hurriedly pulled his hand back.
The lingering warmth still remained on his fingertips. Bo Suihan also let go and looked coldly at Han Qianduo.
“You’re everywhere. Would you die if you didn’t talk?”
“I would. I’d suffocate.”
Han Qianduo shot back without backing down, wrinkling his nose at him.
Ever since his dad was about to arrive, the kid had gotten a lot bolder. Provoking people and talking back-he could do it all.
Bo Suihan ground his teeth and reached for the ashtray beside him.
Han Qianduo knew he wanted to hit him. He covered his head and was about to make a run for it, but before he had taken two steps, there came a thunderous crash.
Immediately after, the private room’s glass shattered and exploded inward.
“Room 1063. Young master located. Requesting backup.” Before the sound of breaking glass had faded, the crackle of a walkie-talkie sounded outside the window.
Wu Xiaojiu clutched his head with one hand and grabbed Bo Suihan with the other, the two of them shrinking into another corner.
A shard of glass had cut Bo Suihan’s temple, and blood was welling out, but he had no time to care-not even enough time to wipe it away.
He first reached out to shield Wu Xiaojiu’s head, then pulled a walkie-talkie from his suit collar and was just about to switch channels and call for backup when another wave of attacks came blasting in from outside the window.
The window had been blown open, giving the people outside a clearer view of the room. They spotted Han Qianduo completely unrestrained, openly hiding behind the bed, and gestured for him to come over.
But the foolish kid did not understand the hand signal at all. Seeing that the people outside the window were armed, he just kept backing away.
Fortunately, the kidnappers had not killed their hostage. Han Qianduo was completely unharmed. Though the hired soldiers were speechless over the young master’s stupidity, they still raised their weapons and began firing into every other corner of the room.
“Where are your people? If this keeps up, we’re both done for!”
Wu Xiaojiu felt the floor trembling beneath him. Explosions and crackling impacts battered his ears until they ached. Only now did fear truly set in, and he used every bit of strength he had to burrow into Bo Suihan’s arms.
Bo Suihan’s expression was taut, his face grave. There was still no response from the other end of the walkie-talkie, only a strange static hiss.
“Don’t be scared. It’ll be fine. I won’t let you die alone.”
“You dying with me isn’t fine either! Both of us need to live!”
Wu Xiaojiu jerked his head up from Bo Suihan’s arms. Because of his nerves, Bo Suihan’s stomach felt hot against him, and the stuffy heat had flushed his whole face red.
Bo Suihan pressed his head back down, wrapping both arms around Wu Xiaojiu’s head to shield him. Then he leaned half his body out first to glance at the situation outside the window. When he saw that those people were only targeting this room and showed no intention of retreating, he carefully shifted position with Wu Xiaojiu in his arms.
The spot they had reached was a blind angle. Although they would still be caught in the aftermath when the weapons struck, they would only suffer superficial injuries. Nothing too serious.
So even though Bo Suihan now had scrapes all over his body, it did not hinder his movements. He remained quick and agile.
Another minute or two passed.
During that time, the room was bombarded nonstop. Only when the suite had been reduced to utter chaos, with no room left for it to get any worse, did the leader finally raise a hand and stop all his subordinates.
“There shouldn’t be anyone left. Change magazines. Three of you, come with me to carry the young master in. One stays outside, ready to cover our retreat at any time!”
As soon as he finished, the sound of magazines dropping to the floor came from by the window.
Bo Suihan tilted his body and glanced through a gap. Seeing that they were reloading and swapping supplies, he hurriedly picked up the walkie-talkie and whispered, “They’re coming in. Get upstairs and provide support now. There’s one left outside the window. Tell the people lying in ambush on the roof to get ready.”
Before he could finish speaking, the hiss of the walkie-talkie caught the leader’s attention.
He lifted an arm, signaling all his men to freeze, then listened closely to the sounds inside the room.
“There’s noise. Keep your weapons raised when you go in. Don’t miss a single trace. Aside from the young master, kill everyone else on sight.”
The moment he said that, there was only the sound of an arm cutting through the air.
Then someone stepped onto the broken glass by the window, making it crunch and crack underfoot.
Han Qianduo was scared out of his wits, huddled in the corner and trembling.
Wu Xiaojiu saw his pathetic state through the gap and curled his lip speechlessly.
“Aren’t they here to save him? They’re his own people. What’s he so scared of?”
