Chapter 46
Chapter 46
The next day, Wu Xiaojiu sat up from the bed groggily, rubbing his head.
Wait.
Bed?
The soft, comfortable sensation under his hand made Wu Xiaojiu rub again in disbelief.
“Goose down comforter, duck feather mattress pad. This feeling… so luxurious, is this the kind of life I should be living under a bridge?”
Wu Xiaojiu’s mind suddenly cleared.
His usually squinting, drowsy eyes now widened as he took in his surroundings.
It wasn’t under a bridge, but a real, genuine bedroom.
However, the color scheme was monotonous and oppressive; the bed and all the furnishings were primarily black with gray accents.
Except for the little dolphin-print blanket on Wu Xiaojiu, everything around him seemed somewhat dark and gloomy.
“Awake? Then let’s talk. Why did you want to kill me?”
A familiar voice sounded from behind. A hand traced from Wu Xiaojiu’s spine up to his neck, fingers gently stroking the scabbed wound.
The wound ached again.
“Does it hurt? You didn’t hesitate back then. I can understand you wavering in your trust for me because of Wang Xiao’s words, but why would you go die with the person who wanted to kill your entire family?”
Wu Xiaojiu broke out in a cold sweat.
The person behind him straightened up, pressing against his back through a layer of clothing.
Wu Xiaojiu felt a dense, soft contact and the heartbeat coming from the other’s chest.
“Speak. Did you go so wild abroad that you forgot your mother tongue?”
What “wild abroad”?
Though the situation was dangerous, Wu Xiaojiu couldn’t help but inwardly retort.
How wild? Running around in a dog cage like a dog?
“I don’t want you to hate me.”
Neither spoke, and a long silence fell over the room.
Wu Xiaojiu couldn’t stand the oppressive atmosphere any longer and decided to answer evasively, half-truthfully.
“Don’t want me to hate you? That dagger in your hand is 2×10 pure steel serrated. When you stab with that, it hurts, and when you pull it out, it takes flesh and blood with it. Wu Xiaojiu, you killed me, so why care about what a dead man thinks?”
Dampness touched his earlobe. Wu Xiaojiu frowned, momentarily at a loss, even more unsure what to say.
Seeing him like this, the person behind understood he wouldn’t get any answers.
His right hand was lifted by someone.
The original children’s watch was put back on by Bo Suihan himself; the screen still had dried blood stains. Wu Xiaojiu reached to wipe it.
Bo Suihan slapped his hand away.
“That’s my blood. You’re wearing your old flame’s watch, and I’m not settling scores with you, but you should have something of mine on you, right?”
What a lunatic.
In this day and age, I’ve seen people give necklaces and bracelets.
But this is the first time I’ve seen someone give a blood-stained watch.
Wu Xiaojiu was so shocked by the other’s twisted logic that he couldn’t recover, completely missing the faint red glow under the bloodstain.
Bo Suihan, half-buried in the crook of his neck, cast a slightly arrogant glance at that spot, raising an eyebrow.
Far away at the Wu Family’s old residence, Qi Jiao’s watch suddenly vibrated.
He puzzledly touched the watch, then saw Bo Suihan and Wu Xiaojiu, one behind the other, back to chest, sitting.
Wu Xiaojiu was short, had poor eating habits for years, and indulged in debauchery, leaving him thin.
Bo Suihan, with broad shoulders and narrow waist, wrapped his arms around Wu Xiaojiu, enveloping him entirely.
The two were saying something intermittently.
But this side couldn’t hear clearly.
Qi Jiao only felt that the heart rate on the watch had increased a bit, not knowing if it was his own or the other’s.
He fell silent for two seconds, reached over and muted the watch again, muttered “fake” under his breath, then looked up with a smile on his face.
The banquet was being held at the Wu Family’s old residence. Ever since Wu Xiaojiu went missing a few months ago, the Wu Family had been wrapped in a deathly, oppressive atmosphere.
And yet, under that suffocating mood, the Wu Family’s business had somehow been doing unusually well.
Still, Wu Xiaojiu’s parents had gone white-haired overnight.
Wu Yuting, in particular, had not shown a single smile for months.
Fearing that the Wu Family might run into trouble if this went on, Qi Jiao often flew back from Eastern Europe whenever he had time to keep them company.
These past few months, despite his best efforts to act cute and win them over, the atmosphere in the Wu household still hadn’t improved much.
At the dining table, Qi Jiao wiped his hands, and the silence dragged on.
Elsewhere.
Wu Xiaojiu could only feel the loud pounding of a heartbeat behind him, while the space in his arms kept shrinking.
At first, the other person’s hand rested on his own. Later, it moved to his thigh. And by now, both hands were interlaced and fixed around Wu Xiaojiu’s waist.
Wu Xiaojiu couldn’t move at all. Even when he tried to come up with an excuse midway through and prepare to slip away,
there was no way to break free from the embrace behind him.
Bo Suihan had absolute control.
“When you stabbed me, what were you thinking? Were you finally relieved to have gotten rid of a problem, or were you furious because a friend betrayed you? How much force did you use when you killed me? When the knife went in, did the blood spatter onto your hands?”
Question after question, dense and relentless.
Wu Xiaojiu’s scalp prickled.
Who would be this curious about the process of their own murder?
Besides, Wu Xiaojiu had always been quick-tempered. Killing someone had been a spur-of-the-moment decision, and now that he thought about it again, stabbing Long Aotian had really been an incredibly brainless thing to do.
Wu Xiaojiu didn’t want to answer, but the person behind him reached out and pried his mouth open.
Like prying open a dog’s mouth, imitating the way Wu Xiaojiu’s mouth moved when he spoke.
The meaning was obvious. If Wu Xiaojiu didn’t answer, he’d be punished.
“Nothing in particular. Your skin was too thick and your flesh was solid. Of course it splattered onto my hands. I knew I should’ve wrapped the handle with gauze.”
He didn’t know what the point of the question was.
Was he asking whether he’d felt heartache when he stabbed someone?
After all, Wu Xiaojiu was the first friend Bo Suihan had made after coming down from the mountain.
Being betrayed by a friend would be hard to take, and that was understandable enough.
Wu Xiaojiu tried his best to beautify the scene from back then, and to suppress the feeling that he had once hated Bo Suihan to the point of wanting him dead.
“Is that so? You remember it so clearly. Why wrap the knife handle with gauze? Did you think my blood was too dirty?
That’s true. After all, I’m just someone who came out of some mountain hollow, while you’re a young master who grew up in the city, precious beyond price.”
He hadn’t expected Bo Suihan to visibly turn unhappy the moment he said that.
His palm was broad, his knuckles distinct. Perhaps because he’d spent so long in the sun up on the mountain, the knuckles were somewhat darkened from long exposure.
When he lifted Wu Xiaojiu’s shirt and touched his abdomen, the color contrast was obvious against that carefully trained, well-kept stomach.
“What are you doing? I didn’t say you disgusted me. Stop making things up. We don’t do this kind of thing in the bedroom.”
After touching his abdomen, Bo Suihan’s hand started moving upward, all the way to his chest.
When it stopped at the area above Wu Xiaojiu’s chest, Bo Suihan paused and poked it lightly.
It felt nice.
