Chapter 31

“Your Wu Family is in trouble.”

Starting off with such gloomy talk.

Wu Xiaojiu didn’t want to hear it. His face immediately hardened, and he stood up, ready to walk out.

Wang Xiao quickly grabbed him.

He pulled him back, calling him “ancestor” and “young master” – every respectful name in the book.

Only then did he barely manage to halt Wu Xiaojiu’s steps.

“What do you want? I’m telling you, you can eat whatever you want, but you can’t just say whatever you want.”

“Our Wu Family has always done business honestly, kept to ourselves, and been perfectly law-abiding. Don’t go making wild guesses just because you’re a detective.”

Family was Wu Xiaojiu’s bottom line.

Anyone could joke about him, but if anyone made fun of his family, Wu Xiaojiu would instantly turn hostile and disown them.

Wang Xiao knew this about him all too well.

He gave a fake, insincere smile, clicked his tongue, and patted Wu Xiaojiu on the shoulder.

“I know, but that’s exactly the point. Your Wu Family hasn’t done anything illegal, but that doesn’t mean others haven’t.”

This round of cryptic talk was a masterful hook.

Wu Xiaojiu swallowed nervously, his brows knitted together. He was extremely sensitive when it came to his family.

He read between the lines: the Wu Family was in danger.

And it wasn’t an internal threat – it was external pressure.

“Don’t beat around the bush. Just tell me straight.”

“Although the Wu Family doesn’t rank high on the rich list, the truth is, over this past year, the top tycoons have been falling one after another. The Wu Family’s revenue has already far surpassed many others.

The Su Family, Liu Family, Zhao Family, and Qian Family, all ranked above the Wu Family, have already been targeted and crushed. Remember the things in the tree hollow and the birdcage?”

Wang Xiao suddenly brought up the case.

Wu Xiaojiu’s heart seized up.

His pupils contracted, and he instinctively grabbed the other man’s shoulders, shaking him hard.

“You mean to say… the Wu Family could very well fall victim to the person you mentioned?”

Wang Xiao nodded vigorously.

“Yesterday I saw: most of the heads in the trees were male, and only one had female characteristics. This morning, the police took DNA from it and found a match with the Headless Female Corpse.”

“And that corpse is the body of Feng Zhao, the current head of the Feng Family.”

“And the Feng Family, based on this year’s revenue, happens to rank right above the Wu Family.”

With that sentence, Wu Xiaojiu’s heart felt like it had sunk to the bottom of a river.

He couldn’t snap out of it for a long time.

“What did you say?!”

Wu Xiaojiu’s emotions suddenly spiked. He spun around abruptly, utterly unable to stay calm, and tried to run out in a panic.

It was at that moment that Wang Xiao grabbed his hand and yanked him back.

“Why are you running? If you run back now, it won’t change anything. The killer hasn’t struck yet – you’ll just stir up trouble for nothing.”

“I told you earlier, haven’t you noticed how strange Bo Suihan is? Several of the Wu Family’s recent projects were pulled in from the Su Family by him.”

“When I was going through the files recently, I found he’s been making an unusual number of trips. It’s like he’s deliberately trying to push the Wu Family to the top. Without his maneuvering, there’d still be a few families above the Wu Family in revenue this year.”

When people are in extreme fear, it’s like being on a phone call – whatever idea or thought is fed to them, they subconsciously believe it and latch on.

Wang Xiao seized the moment to strike while the iron was hot.

“And don’t you think his appearance is suspicious? Your sister broke off their engagement. By all logic, with the awkward situation between you two, he should be keeping you at arm’s length. So why are you two getting closer and closer?”
Wang Xiao’s voice carried a seductive, poisonous lure.

He was like the serpent in the Garden of Eden, tempting Eve and Adam into eating the forbidden fruit.

Step by step, he guided Wu Xiaojiu into thinking deeper.

Toward the worst possibilities.

Toward the deadliest ones.

“Impossible! Bo Suihan is absolutely not that kind of person. Why would he use such filthy, despicable methods!”

Disbelief was written all over Wu Xiaojiu’s face, but inside, his resolve was gradually beginning to waver.

Without even realizing it, he had already marked Bo Suihan as a suspect.

Wu Xiaojiu’s emotions were nearing collapse.

But that was exactly the state Wang Xiao wanted him in.

“Bo Suihan’s family was destroyed. The way his family died was not the same as mine.”

“And the person behind all this is no small figure. Besides, they still haven’t shown themselves. They only strike at the rich people above them. Bo Suihan was forced into a corner. He urgently needed bait.”

“He’s not that vile!”

Wu Xiaojiu clenched his back teeth and spat hard onto the ground. When he lifted his eyes again, tears had already fallen without him noticing.

They were not from sadness.

Nor were they from grief.

They had been forced out by the sheer intensity of his emotions.

Seeing him like this pleased Wang Xiao immensely.

The plan was about to work, and Wang Xiao’s excitement surged so high that he could hardly restrain himself.

He bent down, his lips brushing across Wu Xiaojiu’s cheek.

By coincidence, Wu Xiaojiu’s face was streaked with tears from his breakdown.

The instant Wang Xiao licked him, a single teardrop happened to fall right onto the tip of his tongue.

Salty.

Yet strangely sweet.

Pleasure shot through Wang Xiao like a faint electric current, tingling through his whole body. He began to tremble from the sheer satisfaction of it.

“Don’t be so quick to disbelieve me. I have a way to prove it. Wu Xiaojiu, will you look at me?”

His voice was gentle, as though he were coaxing a child.

Wu Xiaojiu barely managed to gather himself. He drew deep breaths, his whole body heaving with the effort.

With difficulty, he nodded, his eyes locked hard on Wang Xiao.

“Fine. Prove it to me. If you can’t prove it, then even if I have to bankrupt myself, even if I have to hollow out the entire Wu Family, I will make you pay for those cursed words.

I’ll spend money to hire someone to take your life!”

His family was Wu Xiaojiu’s life.

It was his weakness.

It was the leverage that could be used against him.

Wang Xiao knew very well that as long as he kept touching that soft spot,

Wu Xiaojiu’s emotions would be his to manipulate.

“Good. Don’t worry. If Bo Suihan truly never had such thoughts, you won’t need to go to all that trouble at all. I will personally put the knife in your hand.

Even if you subject me to death by a thousand cuts, even if you flay me alive,

I, Wang Xiao, will not have a single complaint.”

When he finished speaking, he helped Wu Xiaojiu up.

Wu Xiaojiu limped forward, one uneven step after another.

Only after he breathed in fresh air and saw the sunlight again did Wu Xiaojiu’s agitated emotions calm slightly. He closed his eyes and felt the familiar warmth on his body.

He could not help feeling confused.

Bo Suihan might dare to harm the Wu Family from the shadows, but he would absolutely never dare to bring it out openly in front of him.

The man was also someone with extraordinary patience. What method could Wang Xiao possibly use to prove to him that Bo Suihan meant to harm the Wu Family?

Confused the entire way, thinking the entire way,

Wu Xiaojiu still could not come up with an answer.

Not until they returned to the place where the tire tracks were, and saw Bo Suihan already waiting there, along with Deaf Man and Miss Zhao.

The three of them saw the two approaching as well.

Bo Suihan saw Wang Xiao and Wu Xiaojiu walking side by side.

His expression turned somewhat unpleasant.
