Chapter 32

“What did I tell you? You just ignore my words, huh?”

Without another word, Bo Suihan stepped forward, grabbed Wang Xiao by the hair, and yanked him straight back.

“I should have killed you back at the villa. Then there wouldn’t be all this trouble. Are you a son of a bitch? I’ve been helping you, and you turn around and bite me?!”

Bo Suihan’s voice was filled with rare fury.

Wang Xiao was manhandled and hit, his face already showing red marks.

“What’s the matter? You dare do those things but not dare let anyone expose you? The Wang Family and your family have already suffered. Bo Suihan, why harm other families for your own selfish desires!”

Even though he was beaten badly.

Wang Xiao didn’t forget to wink at Wu Xiaojiu.

“Making faces? You still want to harm me!”

Bo Suihan panicked, realizing his impulsiveness, and flung Wang Xiao aside.

He quickly ran back, pressed down on Wu Xiaojiu’s shoulders. Due to heavy breathing and inner turmoil, blood surged, rushing to his head.

Bo Suihan’s face flushed bright red.

It felt like the blood in his limbs had frozen. He forced a calm face and explained, “Xiaojiu, don’t believe him. Everything he says is fake! I have no such intentions toward you or the Wu Family. Please believe me, okay?”

Wu Xiaojiu smiled forcedly and took a step back.

“What are you saying? I ran far away just now. Wang Xiao only came to see me. We didn’t say anything, and he didn’t tell me anything. Why so panicked?”

At this attitude, Bo Suihan breathed a slight sigh of relief.

But behind the scenes, Wang Xiao chuckled.

Secretly giving Wu Xiaojiu a thumbs up, he struggled to get up from the dirt. His face, from the recent beating, now had a deep scar that ran from the end of his eyebrow down across his eye.

Wang Xiao spat on his palm, rubbed it warm as a simple disinfectant.

“Really, big brother, so nervous, like I dug up your ancestral grave. Alright, since there are no clues here, let’s head back to the station first.”

Using the remaining spit, he wiped the blood from his face. Wang Xiao looked miserable from the beating, yet he still managed to smile.

Bo Suihan glared at him, pulled Wu Xiaojiu, and shook his head at him.

“We don’t help ungrateful wretches. Wang Xiao, since childhood you’ve had too many tricky ideas. Growing up, you still don’t put your mind on the right path. I tell you, harming others will eventually harm yourself.”

“Well said, ‘harming others harms yourself.’ Suihan, these words should be said to you by Xiaojiu. You won’t help me, fine, but you have to let Xiaojiu come over.”

Miss Zhao and Deaf Man, seeing the tense atmosphere, weakly huddled together.

Each covered the other’s ears. After Deaf Man realized he couldn’t hear.

He then took Miss Zhao’s hand and covered her ears with it.

“He’s not going with you. Xiaojiu, Miss Su just called and asked us to come over. You’ll come with me, right?”

Bo Suihan spread his legs and half-bent down, carefully examining Xiaojiu’s expression.

But the other just gave him an awkward smile and waved his hand distantly.

“No, Wang Xiao is my friend. He has something going on, I should help if I can.”

“He’s your friend, then what am I?! Wu Xiaojiu, you’ve only known him for a few days. How much do you really know about him? You trust him but not me?”

Wu Xiaojiu slapped his hand away.

And walked forward.

“We haven’t known each other that long either. Bo Suihan, your lack of love doesn’t mean I lack love. I have a bunch of friends around me. If you can’t accept that, then we might as well break it off sooner rather than later.”

After saying that, he left.

Getting into the police car, Wang Xiao drove him away.

Wu Xiaojiu occasionally looked back. Even when the place was almost out of sight, the figure on the small hill was still faintly visible.
[It didn’t deduct any Affection Points! I cursed him out that badly. Isn’t Long Aotian supposed to have a really strong ego?]

Wu Xiaojiu grew puzzled.

[Who knows? Maybe your Romance Target is an M.]

“Don’t get all sentimental. Bo Suihan is full of schemes. This time he plotted against your family; next time he’ll be plotting against you. He was an orphan since he was little, after all. He’s seen plenty of cold shoulders and contempt, so not only is he starved for love, he’s also insecure.”

Wang Xiao cranked the steering wheel hard to the right and drove in the opposite direction from the Police Station.

Wu Xiaojiu swayed around in the car with every movement.

The car already had a low chassis, and Wu Xiaojiu wasn’t used to sitting in sedans. On top of that, the interior was far too cramped and restricted his movements.

The whole ride was bumpy, too.

They had barely driven far before he started feeling carsick.

“This isn’t the way back to the Police Station, is it?”

Seeing the road gradually veer off course, Miss Zhao poked her head forward from the back. The Deaf Man was beside her, signing as well.

Wang Xiao glanced at them with a smile and gave a hum of acknowledgment.

“Because there are still doubts about the case, and the place where the death occurred was in this village, the higher-ups have entrusted us with taking you to the local Police Station. Once there are clearer leads, they’ll decide what to do next.”

The two of them were dropped off at the next intersection.

Only Wu Xiaojiu and Wang Xiao were left in the car.

But the car didn’t go much farther, because Wu Xiaojiu’s body really couldn’t take it anymore.

At the next jolt, Wu Xiaojiu, dizzy and light-headed, hurriedly straightened up and waved his hand.

“No, no, no. If you keep driving, I’m going to throw up. Let’s find a small inn nearby, rest for a day, and then head to the city.”

There was no reason to refuse. Only after Wu Xiaojiu got out of the car did he realize the place was surrounded by mountain ranges, fallen leaves, and withered roots. It looked a little familiar, but he couldn’t remember where he had seen it before.

Wang Xiao, on the other hand, seemed very familiar with the area.

He led Wu Xiaojiu all the way into a little no-name inn.

They booked a room with a large bed.

According to Wang Xiao, they were both men, so why waste the money?

They could make do sharing a bed for one night.

The inn looked pretty run-down from the outside, but once they went in, it turned out to be fine. The clean room had a large bed made up with white sheets, and there wasn’t a strand of hair or any debris on the wooden floor.

The small standard room had been tidied up neatly.

Just looking at it made a person feel clean inside.

“Ow, my god. I have to say, Bo Suihan really doesn’t hold back. Look at this punch and these scratches he gave me. My skin’s broken and my face is ruined. If I can’t find a wife in the future because of your husband, what am I supposed to do?”

The moment Wang Xiao entered the room, he sat down on the chair beside him, groaning nonstop.

Wu Xiaojiu glared at him and curled his lip in disdain.

But he still didn’t forget to take the small emergency medical kit out of his pocket.

Wu Yuting truly doted on him. Ever since he was little, she had always been afraid he would fall or bump into something, so she had specially ordered this tiny little thing for him from overseas.

It usually held bandages and disinfectant swabs. It didn’t take up much space, but it required a lot of love.

Altogether, it was no bigger than half a palm, making it extremely convenient to carry around.

“Here. Disinfect it yourself.”

Wang Xiao narrowed his eyes and gave it a sidelong glance, then waved his hand repeatedly.

“No need. In our line of work, even before internships, we’re already getting knocked around all the time. Once we start interning, who’s afraid of a few bumps and bruises? Sure, he did hit me pretty hard, but I can take it.”

“Cut the crap. Once the wound gets infected, you won’t be so casual about it.”

“I know you’re being kind, but I got hurt all the time during my internship, so I’ve already developed a resistance to disinfectants like iodine and alcohol. Using those two won’t do anything.”

It was Wu Xiaojiu’s first time hearing that someone could develop drug resistance to alcohol and iodine.

He couldn’t help laughing out loud.

“You think I’m an idiot? Fine, don’t use it then. Let’s see what you use to disinfect your wounds next time you get hurt.”
