Chapter 56

The farce on the other side was escalating by the second.

Wang Xiao’s voice had gone from screams of agony to a rage-filled roar of shame and anger.

“Fuck you! So what if I’m using you? I just can’t stand that orphan, Bo Suihan. We’re both orphans, so why does he get to have everything he has today? Why do people admire him, why does his master dote on him, while I have nothing!”

Wang Xiao shrieked until he was hoarse.

In truth, the case involving the Bo Family decades ago was far more complicated than anyone imagined.

His hatred for Bo Suihan did not come out of nowhere. It had been deliberately nurtured for a long time, piling up over the years into deep, heavy resentment.

It had reached the point where he wished a truck would come out of nowhere on the road and, with no logic at all, slam into Bo Suihan, then run him over again and again. Better yet, with hot steel coils on board.

Crush Bo Suihan until he was barely alive, then let the coils and steel wire roll down and burn him to death, crush him to death.

That was how far the hatred had gone.

And yet the other man had not only failed to live the miserable life Wang Xiao had imagined, he was living better and better.

He had even latched onto a rich man.

And then become a rich man himself.

Now the two rich men were about to end up happily together.

Wang Xiao really could not take it anymore.

He had to interfere. Even if his head was empty and his methods were all over the place, he would make sure Bo Suihan never had an easy time in this life.

This plan was perfect.

Wang Xiao was certain Bo Suihan would fall for it.

“Just transfer the assets under my name? Fine. It’ll be a little troublesome, though. You’ll need to come in person, and it can be settled within three days. By the fourth day, can Wu Xiaojiu be returned in one piece?”

Bo Suihan was very calm, and his tone was serious.

He clearly was not joking.

His attitude left Wang Xiao completely stunned.

Wang Xiao repeated his words in disbelief.

Bo Suihan answered with a quiet “Mm.”

“As for those assets, they’re secondary. If they can be exchanged for Wu Xiaojiu’s safety, then they’re more than worth it. I’m willing.”

That reaction was completely unlike what Wang Xiao wanted.

Wang Xiao on the other end was practically jumping up and cursing.

But after calming down, Wang Xiao let out a cold laugh.

“So that’s your goading trick, huh? Useless. Tonight at nine, come to the abandoned factory where you got into trouble last time. Bo Suihan, whoever doesn’t show up is a coward. Remember that you said you were willing to give up your assets.”

With that, he hung up.

Bo Suihan listened to the dial tone coming from the landline, then slapped the handset into the butler’s chest and waved the driver over.

Because of the special nature of the Wu Family’s business, the senior members did not need to be on-site personally. In ordinary times, Wu Xiaojiu’s parents had plenty of time to stay at home.

They must know something about Wu Xiaojiu and Wu Yuting.

Bo Suihan planned to start with the two of them.

But just as he arrived at the Wu Family estate, he heard a man and a woman crying inside.

Bo Suihan’s usually composed face rarely showed a trace of tension.

The driver had never seen him so stiff he did not even dare to move his feet.

He peeked forward cautiously.

He saw Bo Suihan straighten himself from head to toe, take two steps forward, then pause and spray a little men’s cologne on himself.

Dressed up that carefully, he did not look like he was going to meet the victim’s family. He looked more like he was going to meet his future in-laws.

Sure enough.

Before the driver could dwell on it for long, Bo Suihan turned back, pulled two gift boxes out of the trunk, and only then went into the Wu Family estate with satisfaction.

The moment he stepped inside, the crying had not eased at all. If anything, it had turned more into wailing.

“Who let you in? My two children have both been harmed by you! Get out.”

Bo Suihan set the things in his hands on the ground and looked at the two gray-haired elders in front of him.

He squeezed out a smile, as strained as he could manage.
“It wasn’t me who did it. It was Wang Xiao. But you can rest easy. He won’t do anything too out of line.” After saying that, he paused, then drew the injured hand behind his back and hid it, coughing once in an obvious attempt to cover it up before continuing, “Rather than blaming me right now, I’d rather you repeat exactly how Wu Xiaojiu was taken away, just as it happened.”

The gray-haired old man glared at him.

He shouted himself hoarse, telling him to get lost.

From start to finish, Bo Suihan wore a polite smile and kept his manners impeccable. Unmoved by the old man’s fury, he shamelessly stayed right there.

In the end, the old man truly didn’t have the strength to keep it up.

Panting heavily, the two of them supported each other back to the sofa and, with tears and snot running down their faces, began recounting what had happened that morning.

“Wu Yuting went crazy. She picked up a kitchen knife and went after the fool. My girl has always been emotionally stable. Nothing like this has ever happened before.

My wife and I couldn’t stop her. Qi Jiao came out of nowhere. He called Wu Xiaojiu, and Wu Xiaojiu came back very quickly. But that’s where the problem started.”

Wu Yuting seemed as if she’d been drugged. She had been brandishing an axe back and forth, but the moment Wu Xiaojiu returned, she calmed down for a while. Then, as soon as someone approached her, she placed that axe against Wu Xiaojiu’s neck and started howling and screaming that she absolutely had to go somewhere.

Qi Jiao apologized to the two elders, quickly drove them off in his car, and the three of them then disappeared from sight.

So the reason the two of them had blamed Bo Suihan was that their families’ businesses often clashed, and they had originally thought this was Bo Suihan stirring up trouble and sabotaging things behind the scenes.

But looking at it now, that didn’t seem to be the case at all.

Bo Suihan nodded.

“Qi Jiao may have lost his head, but his feelings were real. Wu Xiaojiu and his sister aren’t in any immediate danger, but there’s one thing I’m worried about.”

Bo Suihan slightly tilted his gaze and let it fall on the familiar Golden Phoebe Wood furniture.

“Was that given by the Su Family? Is there something wrong with it?”

“Send it back. The object itself is fine. It’s just that the root is rotten.”

The whole matter finally came into focus.

Bo Suihan had achieved his purpose, and he turned to leave.

But just as he moved, voices came from inside again.

“We didn’t understand you before. But after hearing all this, we can tell you’re a good kid.

The Bo surname hasn’t been seen for a long time. Back then, it was practically wiped out. We don’t have any right to speak, but we still want to advise you. If it really doesn’t work, then just let it go.”

Hearing the voices from inside, Bo Suihan gave no reply and simply left.

…

When Wu Xiaojiu woke up, all he felt was that the sky had fallen.

Qi Jiao, Wang Xiao, his sister, and a group of familiar faces were standing in front of him.

And he was bound up, unable to move his hands or feet.

The three of them were all staring at him, and the air was deathly silent.

“I’ve been kidnapped by family and friends?”

Wu Xiaojiu stared at them in disbelief. Qi Jiao and Wang Xiao both looked away.

Only Wu Yuting kept staring at him. For some reason, there was a murky, unreadable heaviness in his sister’s eyes.

Wu Xiaojiu looked into that gaze for several seconds.

Suddenly, it felt strangely familiar.

As if he’d seen it before.

But one thing was certain: Wu Yuting had always doted on him, and that kind of numb, emotionless look had never once been directed at him.

Wu Xiaojiu lowered his head and thought for a long time.

Only then did he suddenly realize it.

It was the same look from the morning he first arrived here, the instant the Old Master of the Su Family woke up, and the moment the Old Master of the Su Family looked at him while holding that bowl of maggot soup.

It was exactly the same as his sister’s eyes now.
