Chapter 36

Wu Xiaojiu let out a “tch,” watching the figure being escorted away outside for a long time.

“What are you looking at? Take your eyes off that and look at me.”

“Look, just got beaten yesterday, and then again today. The scab that just formed has split open again.”

Wang Xiao cheerfully turned his face around.

Pointing at the split wound at the end of his eyebrow and laughing.

Blood was already seeping out, sticky and trickling down.

“Xiaojiu, see, it’s bleeding again. Show me some sympathy.”

Wu Xiaojiu thought, was this the straight-guy’s play?

Immediately waved his hand to show his stance.

“That’s an illness, you need to treat it early.”

Wang Xiao clutched his chest, looking hurt. Though the wound was on his face, he wore an expression as if injured internally.

“Who got you the evidence of Bo Suihan harming your family? Who worked tirelessly to earn your trust? And who…”

“Xiaojiu, I’ve been through thick and thin for you. No matter how fierce or scolding you were along the way, I never complained of hardship or exhaustion. And now you refuse to comfort me? Are you disgusted with me?”

This question was too loaded; Wu Xiaojiu couldn’t answer yes or no.

After a while, he could only squeeze out a vague “no” from his throat.

Wang Xiao still pretended not to hear.

“I’ll just dip some water and mix it with a tissue to wipe it for you.”

This kind of situation was too torturous; Wu Xiaojiu couldn’t take it and hurriedly stood up.

He felt like Tang Monk entering the Spider Cave.

With favors owed, he had a wimpy sense of reluctant acceptance.

While they were entangled, the Interrogation Room door suddenly swung open.

A young-faced child stood at the door, holding a cotton swab in one hand and alcohol and iodine in the other.

Innocent and harmless, he looked at them with clear eyes and gave the items a shake.

“I saw Detective Wang was hurt, a big scar on his forehead, and blood oozing out again, so I took the liberty to get some medicine from Squad One. Quickly, use it.”

Oh dear.

Wang Xiao saw his scheming interrupted.

His expression immediately soured, but then he thought the kid meant well for his sake.

He had to swallow his dissatisfaction.

Putting on a forced smile.

“Okay.”

He took the medicine and obediently wiped it while looking at a mirror.

Wu Xiaojiu remained silent for a long time. Wang Xiao realized that his words had definitely provoked him.

So, pretending it was casual, he brought up the two big men again.

“Think about it, who doesn’t have relatives and connections? With cars, houses, as long as you’re alive, you have a weakness, and that weakness is most afraid of being squeezed.”

“Scumbags like them, in the end, they still compromised for their son.”

Wu Xiaojiu sighed lightly, feeling worse than a pig or a dog. But the current situation was truly hard to handle.

If he hadn’t been bound to the Strategy System, Wu Xiaojiu would have definitely made a move against Bo Suihan for his family’s sake.

Thinking about it, Wu Xiaojiu suddenly recalled his recent conversations with Bo Suihan.

He touched his nose, thinking, and suddenly had a thought of a two-way solution.

Bo Suihan’s love came quickly-if someone was good to him, he’d like them.

Wanting to return kindness double or more.

Then what about hate? When love and hate intertwine, one rising as the other falls, how complicated would Bo Suihan’s heart be when he was near death?

“I know what to do.”
Wu Xiaojiu lifted his eyes and stared steadily at Wang Xiao.
The other man also looked over with an excited expression, yet pretended to be clueless.
“What do you mean you know what to do? What mischievous trick has Xiaojiu cooked up?”
“I know how to deal with Bo Suihan now. There are cameras here, I’ll tell you outside.”
The two walked to the door. Wang Xiao was so excited he was rubbing his hands like a fly, while Wu Xiaojiu’s expression remained indifferent throughout.
When they reached the entrance of the police station, he held out his hand toward Wang Xiao.
“Got a smoke? Light one for me. I’ll tell you slowly while I puff on it.”
He lit up a Xuanhemen, feeling refreshed and clear-headed.
Wu Xiaojiu’s roiling mind finally calmed down a bit. He looked at his clenched hand.
He let out a sigh. Amid the swirling smoke, he pulled Wang Xiao’s head close and whispered in his ear.
After a two-minute-long whisper.
Wang Xiao’s whole body stiffened on the spot.
He incredulously gestured at Wu Xiaojiu, then pointed at himself, his eyes filled with disbelief.
“Are you crazy? There’s no need to go that far. Even if you’re killing someone, just kill Bo Suihan alone. Why go through all this trouble?”
The cigarette had burned out.
Wu Xiaojiu lit another one.
Xuanhemen was stronger than the cigarettes he usually carried; he had barely taken a drag before wanting to cough.
Now, the slim cigarette was held between his fingers. As he took a deep drag, the tobacco’s strength mixed with the air and passed through his lungs.
Wu Xiaojiu felt an inexplicable thrill.
“Can’t help it. That’s just how I am. Though it’s a top principle that debts must be repaid and a life for a life, in the end Bo Suihan owes me. This way he can die with his eyes closed, and I can be at ease.”
Wang Xiao knew that he hadn’t made up his mind for so long because he had doubts.
Now that he’s so resolute, he must have added something to the original plan of killing Bo Suihan.
But he never expected that something added was another living life.
Wang Xiao finally became incoherent. He really couldn’t accept such a bold plan.
“What are you doing? You said yourself that he owed you, that he had ill intentions from the start.
If he dies with regret, does his peace of mind have anything to do with you? At worst, you can just burn more paper money for him after he’s dead.”
The cigarette butt was stubbed out. Wu Xiaojiu politely put it in his pocket.
He shook off the lingering smoke smell from his hands and forced a smile.
“Can’t help it, I’m too conscientious.”
“Alright, Detective Wang. I think things have come to this, and there’s nothing more to say. Our lives have nothing to do with you, so let’s proceed according to plan.
After it’s done, you go your own way, I go mine. Live well from now on.”
Wang Xiao was fuming with anger. Looking at the indifferent person before him, he seethed.
“Have you ever thought, once this plan succeeds, what about your sister? Your mom? Your dad? Your whole family loves you so much. If you die, how heartbroken they’ll be.”
“Could it be that for Bo Suihan, that yellow-haired brat you’ve only known a few days, you’re willing to give up your precious life and die with him?”
Another cigarette was lit.
Wu Xiaojiu hadn’t wanted to smoke anymore, but seeing the other’s attitude, he felt he’d never hear the end of it if he didn’t give a reasonable explanation.
So, annoyed, he started smoking again.
