Chapter 41
Chapter 41
A red cloth was draped over the cage.
Two people carried the cage, and Wu Xiaojiu huddled inside, swaying back and forth, feeling nervous and unsettled.
Until the surroundings gradually became noisy, and the cloth could no longer block out the light.
Only then was the cage set down.
“Fresh goods, not second-hand, specially reserved for you. Take a look?”
The cage was kicked, and the cloth was slightly lifted. Wu Xiaojiu curled up and shrank back.
Trying his best not to be seen, but a pair of eyes stared straight in through the cage.
“Looks like him, really looks like him, it’s too similar. Quick, take it inside; my boss will definitely like it.”
The gaze moved from top to bottom, finally settling on Wu Xiaojiu’s dirty face.
The expression in those eyes suddenly flickered; then the person straightened up, clapped, and nodded.
“As expected, Eastern Europe is more reliable. At our club over there, we’ve changed people batch after batch, but never had one this similar. Top quality. I’ll prepay you 2 million. Take the cage inside.”
The deal price was very high, so the club had no reason to refuse.
The dog cage was lifted again, swaying as it was carried forward.
This time, after only a few steps, it was set down again.
Before Wu Xiaojiu could figure out the situation, the large red cloth over his head was lifted, and instantly a buzzing sound reached his ears.
A person wearing a club uniform, holding a saw and speaking with an accent he couldn’t understand, slowly approached.
“Hey, no.”
Wu Xiaojiu instinctively shrank toward the back of the cage, but someone grabbed him by the collar through the gaps in the cage, forcing him to crouch directly under the saw.
The roar of the chainsaw gradually drew closer, and it was clearly aimed straight at Wu Xiaojiu’s face, ready to cut down.
Unable to resist, he could only close his eyes in submission.
Praying that the boss who bought him only had this one perverse interest.
“You scared him. Can’t you just split the cage open with a machete? You’ve terrified him like this; how am I supposed to enjoy myself later?”
Just when he resigned himself to fate.
From the corner came a casual, indifferent question.
Because of that one sentence, the person with the saw abruptly stopped, turned around, picked up a pair of large pliers, and without a word, silently cut and snapped the ten iron bars directly above Wu Xiaojiu.
Someone helped Wu Xiaojiu climb out of the cage.
As he emerged, he clearly heard a hiss from the corner.
A large hand beckoned him over.
“So similar, really so similar. Come here, let me take a closer look.”
Wu Xiaojiu was bewildered, his eyes scanning the surroundings as he reluctantly took small steps forward.
The club was very noisy, but because it aimed for a high-end clientele, the decor was extremely luxurious.
Even an inconspicuous sofa in the corner, Wu Xiaojiu could immediately recognize it as this year’s new model from a niche brand, worth over 400,000.
The staff around the club wore uniforms of a uniform standard, but the labels on their chests were from a niche bespoke suit brand.
Wu Xiaojiu had some clothes custom-made there, so he knew that this brand’s fees were no less than 200,000 per order.
If they were this meticulous about the service staff, then the person treated as a VIP guest by this club must be someone of extraordinary power.
Wu Xiaojiu frowned tightly. Generally, the higher up a person’s status, the more their material and spiritual needs were fully satisfied.
This meant that ordinary thrills were commonplace to them.
They needed something more beyond the ordinary to stimulate their brains.
Saw, XX Club-things that only existed on TV for ordinary people.
Wu Xiaojiu had actually witnessed them with his own eyes; it was worth it, in a sense.
His nails dug deep into his palms; he had no idea what awaited him.
But the likely outcome was only two words.
He was still dazedly mulling it over when the person in the shadows suddenly reached out and seized his hair, dragging him forward with brutal force.
“That really pisses me off. He was such a good person. How can a little punk like you deserve to look the same as him?
I only came here for a laugh. I was even planning to let you off a little easier, but there’s nothing I can do. If anyone’s to blame, blame your parents for giving you this face.”
The man yanked on his hair until Wu Xiaojiu had no choice but to curl forward like a shrimp. The man stood behind him, and Wu Xiaojiu could not see his face at all.
Instead, he was forced to sprawl half across the club table, with a leg pressed across his back. Wu Xiaojiu could not move.
Pain shot through him. He hissed and twisted, trying to struggle free.
Seeing that, the man behind him seemed to get even angrier.
With a sharp crack, the man slammed the wine bottle against the edge of the table, breaking off the base and scattering fragments across the floor.
The remaining jagged glass was clenched in his hand and pressed hard against Wu Xiaojiu’s cheek.
Wu Xiaojiu had not even managed to stop moving. With only the slightest twitch, the sharp glass edge drew a bright red line across his face.
“Don’t move. The more you struggle, the angrier I get. He stayed lofty and untouchable even in death, while you start fighting the moment you’re threatened.
You don’t look like him at all anymore. Be good. If I slash your face, I’ll let you go, all right?”
A leg pinned down his spine as the man slowly bent lower, pressing his entire upper body onto Wu Xiaojiu.
The jagged bottle, still leaking the last of the red wine, came closer by a little more. Wu Xiaojiu tilted his head back, trying to pull away.
He clenched his jaw so hard his molars hurt. He really could not believe that one day his own face would bring him this kind of trouble.
“Don’t do this. I was born looking like this. It’s not like I wanted it. If you’ve got something to say, let’s talk it out properly.”
With his back against the wall, Wu Xiaojiu could only try his best to soothe the man and hope he would calm down.
Who would have thought the glass shard would actually move away from his face.
But it only shifted to his throat, where it pressed in hard and added another wound on top of the old one that had not yet healed.
“Even your voice sounds similar, and you’re about the same height. Don’t tell me you knew I liked him and deliberately had yourself made into his copy.”
How shameless.
Wu Xiaojiu wanted to weep on the spot.
He really wanted to ask: Old man, who exactly is this ‘he’ you keep talking about? Have we even met before?
Could he be my long-lost twin brother? How can everything look alike?
By that logic, in a little while you’ll want to slice open my vocal cords and break my legs too, so they can grow back differently. Why not just toss me back into the furnace and let me be reborn?
But he could not say any of that aloud.
The person on top of him was already angry enough. If Wu Xiaojiu actually said that, he might not even keep his life.
So he could only put on a pitiful, obsequious look and try his hardest to flatter him.
“Th-that… you’re absolutely right. I hold you in awe like the endless Yangtze River, surging on forever. That’s why I deliberately made myself look like the one you have in your heart, just to win your attention.”
The pressure on him only got heavier. Wu Xiaojiu was in so much pain that tears kept spilling out.
The man gave a soft laugh.
Then he rested his forehead against Wu Xiaojiu’s shoulder.
“You like me that much? Then tell me. What’s my name?
If you get it right, I’ll let you off.
If you get it wrong, that just means you were lying from the start, and I’ll have no choice but to cut up both your vocal cords and your face.”
