Chapter 89
Chapter 89
The Xie Miaomiao case implicated a great many people.
Aside from Xie Miaomiao, human tissue belonging to villagers who had gone missing over the past few years was found at the burly man’s dog farm and in the Village Chief’s small basement.
Miss Zhao’s name was cleared at last as well. After several months, she and Deaf Man were released together.
The wealthy young lady, still dressed in prison uniform, burst into tears the moment she stepped out of her cage.
Especially when she saw Wu Xiaojiu, his features soft beneath the bright lights.
Then she cried so hard she barely looked human.
“I heard about it. I heard the prison guards talking! You went through so much trouble to solve that case full of twists and mysteries. You saved me! You saved the Zhao Family too!”
Her face was streaked red from crying. Wu Xiaojiu didn’t even have time to decline the credit before he helped her into a chair and comforted her over and over.
“It wasn’t just me. Everyone worked hard on this. Stop crying, okay? Give me your home phone number. I’ll call your parents so they can come pick you up.”
Seeing Miss Zhao cry so terribly, Deaf Man was at a loss too.
He half-knelt on the floor, holding her knees, frantically signing at her, but Miss Zhao had no attention to spare for him right now.
“You didn’t just save my life. You saved the Zhao Family and the Qian Family too. Only by working together can our two families have any place to survive in this city. If either of us tries to go it alone, sooner or later we’ll be swallowed up by that bastard Bo Suihan.”
His name suddenly coming up, Bo Suihan instinctively looked over.
Miss Zhao cried and cried, then sensed his gaze and turned her almond-shaped face forward.
And saw the face she least wanted to see in this life.
On the spot, she cried even harder, pointing in Bo Suihan’s direction and shouting that she hated him.
“Why is Bo Suihan everywhere?! Hurry up and drive him away! Every time I have nightmares, I always end up seeing him.”
There was no helping it. Under fierce insistence, Bo Suihan could only retreat behind the scenes.
Only Wu Xiaojiu, Wang Qiang, and Deaf Man were left to comfort Miss Zhao.
They comforted her for a full two hours.
Only then did the young girl stop sobbing. After suffering disaster for no reason and enduring imprisonment, her whole spirit had wilted.
Her almond eyes were swollen. By the time the Zhao Family came to pick her up, her little steamed-bun face was still puffy with tears.
Deaf Man watched her go with great reluctance. Only after she completely disappeared did he start signing at Wu Xiaojiu.
Wu Xiaojiu couldn’t understand him.
Wang Qiang couldn’t understand either. In fact, he had no idea what Deaf Man was even flailing about for.
Grinning, he pointed at him and joked to Wu Xiaojiu, “Look at him. Guy’s gone crazy playing Naruto.”
[Good thing Deaf Man can’t hear him,] Wu Xiaojiu complained to the System.
[Host, Long Aotian’s Affection Points have been stuck at 90 all this time. Don’t you think that’s a big problem? Recently, he even ran into his destined heroine, and here you are cracking jokes. Do you not feel any urgency at all?]
At work, his boss nagged him. Inside the world, the System nagged him.
Wu Xiaojiu was like a poor little cabbage sprayed limp by pesticide, his leaves drooping.
His face instantly scrunched up like a bitter melon.
[But Wang Qiang really is funny.]
[You… Forget it. Just keep giggling like an idiot.]
After saying that, the System cut the connection.
Wu Xiaojiu had just been scolded, while Wang Qiang was still pointing at Deaf Man and laughing so hard the world spun, spit flying everywhere.
“No, Xiaojiu, look at him! His hands are practically about to shoot sparks! Are Naruto players all this possessed now?”
Wu Xiaojiu lived by the principle of: if I’m unhappy, you’re not allowed to be happy either.
He turned his head expressionlessly.
And delivered a fatal reminder. “Is it funny? Deaf Man is deaf.”
Wang Qiang’s bared teeth vanished at once. He turned his back and slapped himself hard across the mouth twice, but then he couldn’t hold it in and burst out with another pfft of laughter.
“Why are you only saying that now? Are you trying to ruin me?! Wait here. I’m going to find someone who knows sign language.”
Wang Qiang scrambled and stumbled his way to the back of the police station.
In the lobby, only Wu Xiaojiu and the Deaf Man were left, facing each other.
The urgency in the Deaf Man’s eyes was practically spilling over. Wu Xiaojiu raised a hand to stop him, then pointed at his own head and waved his hand, signaling that he couldn’t understand.
In that brief gap of confusion, Bo Suihan suddenly came striding hurriedly out from the back of the lobby.
His face was dark, his steps quick, the corners of his eyes and brows pulled taut and angled upward. He looked like he was in a terrible mood-especially fierce.
“What’s wrong?”
Wu Xiaojiu craned his neck to look, but the other man said nothing, only waved him off.
The next second, the station doors were pulled open, and Bo Suihan left without a word.
Forget words-he didn’t even make a sound.
Wu Xiaojiu was puzzled. His thoughts started running wild, and he suddenly remembered that Lin Yang had told Bo Suihan to go on a blind date.
Counting the days, could it be today?
His lips slowly pressed into a tight line. Wu Xiaojiu’s heart gave a little thud, but he didn’t show it on his face as he paced back and forth through the police station.
When a person got anxious, they always wanted to do something.
Wu Xiaojiu hadn’t checked in with his family these past few days either. Thinking it was about time to let them know he was safe, he took out his phone and started scrolling.
Only then did he realize someone had been sending him messages nonstop.
When he saw the contact name was Qi Jiao, Wu Xiaojiu felt a flare of anger.
That guy had kidnapped him and drugged Wu Yuting, throwing his entire household into chaos. The only reason Wu Xiaojiu hadn’t called the police and had him arrested was out of consideration for their old friendship.
And now he was sending harassing messages too? Was he trying to make even Wu Xiaojiu’s online life a mess?
Wu Xiaojiu clicked in through gritted teeth.
The moment he saw the first message, he awkwardly flipped his phone face-down.
His whole face scrunched up, and his eyes darted around. Only after confirming no one was nearby did he carefully look again.
Qi Jiao’s opening line went like this:
“I’m sorry, but I’ll protect you forever.
If Bo Suihan ever drives you into depression, 110 can take me away and 120 can take him away.
I’ll make the news, he’ll leave the household registry, and then you’ll know just how much I like you.”
It was practically an outright confession, but Wu Xiaojiu wasn’t moved.
He swept his gaze over it with a frown and only felt dizzy, stifled, and extremely uncomfortable.
He kept scrolling. About two hours later, Qi Jiao seemed to have a bit of a breakdown after seeing that Wu Xiaojiu wasn’t replying.
“Are you still with him? It’s ten at night and you’re not going home. Are you staying at a hotel?
He really doesn’t love you. If he did, how could he let your first time be at a hotel? So careless!”
Another two hours passed, and Wu Xiaojiu still hadn’t replied.
Qi Jiao had completely lost it.
“Ten years of companionship can’t compare to one ‘I do’ from it. Wu Xiaojiu, impressive. I hate you!”
He had even typed the wrong character, though it was also possible Qi Jiao had done it on purpose.
Two minutes later, another message came from the other side.
“Can I still see you in the future? Even if it’s just to deliver condoms to you two.”
Seeing this, Wu Xiaojiu felt all sorts of mixed feelings and had no idea how to react.
After a long while, he scratched his chin and kept reading.
Below that, Qi Jiao got more and more worked up, more and more broken, and his messages became increasingly vulgar and increasingly simping. Wu Xiaojiu read until his head started to ache.
Then the messages reached yesterday.
“I don’t know who else to look for. You’re the only friend I have left, Xiaojiu. Can you come over?”
The further Wu Xiaojiu read, the darker his expression became. In the end, his brows were twisted tightly together.
Just then, Wang Qiang came out cheerfully with a sign language teacher, so the Deaf Man finally had someone to help him.
“Get me a car. I have something to handle in the city.”
