Chapter 104
Chapter 104
A chill first ran down Han Fu’s back, then his scalp tightened.
Before he could even figure out what was happening, he was dragged into the darkness. Like an overturned turtle, his limbs flailed wildly in the air as he shouted for help at the top of his lungs, as if the words cost him nothing.
“I’m begging you, Bo Suihan! I had no choice back then! I apologized to you too, and every New Year and holiday I went to burn incense at your family’s graves. I’ve repented for all these years. Can’t you spare my life?”
Bo Suihan was terrifyingly strong.
Han Fu weighed several hundred pounds, yet Bo Suihan had hauled him up by sheer force with both hands. His toes dangled several feet off the ground. No matter how hard Han Fu thrashed, it was useless.
“You make it sound so pretty. Weren’t visiting their graves and repenting the least you should have done? If you hadn’t coveted my family’s fortune, if you hadn’t hated and envied my brother, my family would still be whole and happy. I wouldn’t have had to spend more than ten bitter years suffering on the mountain.
“My family was wealthy. We never had to worry about food or drink. I could have been as carefree as Wu Xiaojiu and Han Qianduo, instead of ending up like this, twisted inside by the hatred of having my whole family destroyed.”
Bo Suihan’s eyes were cold. He stared at Han Fu as if he were looking at a dead thing.
He spoke each word clearly, his phrasing vicious, yet from beginning to end his tone stayed flat, as if he were merely commenting that the weather was hot or that the weather was cold. There was no rise or fall of emotion at all.
Han Fu shuddered under his stare.
His bloated body hung there like a slab of pork, making him feel unbearably uncomfortable and deeply uneasy. His rolls of flesh trembled along with his massive frame.
Han Fu looked like a pig being electrocuted.
“My assets, my reputation, my company-everything, all of it-I can hand it over to you right now. I’ll draw up contracts and transfer it all under your name as compensation for what happened back then. As long as you spare my life, I’ll do anything!”
At those words, Bo Suihan slowly curled the corner of his mouth.
Seeing that Bo Suihan had finally shown the slightest expression, Han Fu thought his persuasion was working and visibly perked up.
He hurriedly doubled down on his fawning, wagging his tail and begging for mercy before Bo Suihan like a dog.
“I’m truly sorry about what happened back then. I was just blinded by greed for a moment. Everyone has a time when they’re young and reckless, don’t they? I’ve come to my senses now and repented. You have to give me a chance to make amends, right?”
When Bo Suihan gave no response, Han Fu immediately tried to push his luck. “Let go of me. Let’s talk this over properly.”
As soon as he finished speaking, one of the two hands that had been gripping his hair lowered. Han Fu’s feet barely touched the ground, and wild joy surged through him.
Bo Suihan, oh Bo Suihan. So what if you’re strong and can fight? In the end, you’re still poor and penniless, willing to give up the hatred of your family’s massacre for a few hundred million.
People always pushed for more once they got an inch. When Han Fu had thought he was about to die, his promise to transfer all his assets to Bo Suihan might have held a little sincerity.
But now that he no longer felt his life was under threat, Han Fu immediately tried to take advantage, already planning some underhanded tricks.
He rubbed his hands together like a fly, and without even realizing it, his face took on an arrogant air. His eyes narrowed as he looked at Bo Suihan, and his tone instantly turned sharp and mean.
“Little Han, your uncle here may run a big business, but it’s all an empty shell. Losing money left and right. The cash flow I can take out right now is only a few hundred million. If you want it, I’ll give it to you. But aside from that money, your uncle has nothing. I’m flat broke.”
In the darkness.
The moment Han Fu finished speaking, he heard the man before him laugh.
It was a very soft chuckle, gone in an instant, impossible to read.
“Han Fu, you really are shameless.”
“What do you mean?”
Han Fu frowned, and all at once panic seized him again.
Everything happening on this side…
Wu Xiaojiu narrowed his eyes and could only make out the general situation. The aquarium was simply too dark. He couldn’t see the people or events over there clearly, and could only piece together what had happened from the sounds and snippets of conversation.
He also heard Bo Suihan’s soft laugh. Frowning, he couldn’t tell what it meant, so he decided to feel his way forward and, while he was at it, advise Bo Suihan not to wound the feelings of the departed over a few measly coins.
He had only taken a few steps when a warm spray hit him full in the face, misting evenly over his face and body like water from a spray bottle. It was hot, sticky, and unbearably thick. Most importantly, it carried a rank, metallic stench that told anyone at once exactly what the liquid was.
Wu Xiaojiu went rigid. His teeth ached, his knees nearly buckled forward, but his hand lifted on instinct and wiped down over his face like a rag, clearing it off.
“I’m sorry.” In the darkness, nothing could be seen clearly-especially not after being sprayed in the face with blood. Wu Xiaojiu’s vision was still sticky and blurred, and before he could recover from the shock, there was a loud clang. Then Bo Suihan spoke in a hoarse voice.
“I got you dirty. I didn’t think you would come over. I thought you would keep standing by the fish tank, in that beam of light.”
Bo Suihan’s voice was full of self-reproach. The coldness from before was gone; now he sounded aggrieved, pitiful, even a little choked up.
Wu Xiaojiu swallowed and realized even his saliva tasted of blood. His whole throat felt as if he hadn’t drunk water for ten days or half a month, dry and filled with the smell of iron.
“It’s fine. At least it didn’t splash into my mouth. It’s just my clothes, face, and hair that got a bit dirty. I’ll take a shower when we get back and throw the clothes away.”
Wu Xiaojiu forced a smile, mustering his spirits to comfort Bo Suihan.
The other man heard the strain in his voice and took two steps forward.
With those two steps, the distance between them closed.
Wu Xiaojiu could see the light bursting from his eyes. Bo Suihan no longer looked as lifeless as before, with that flat tone and expression as though nothing in the world had anything to do with him.
The Bo Suihan before him now was far more fragile than Wu Xiaojiu had imagined, and far more battered.
He was covered head to toe in blood, almost like a man made of it, vivid red all over. His entire face was so drenched that his features could no longer be distinguished; only those two gleaming eyes made it possible to tell where his eyes were.
His clothes had either been clawed or scraped apart, the hem hanging in strips. His pants were in tatters. Even his shoes had more than a dozen holes of different sizes scattered across them. Most crucially, there was a bullet hole in Bo Suihan’s right arm, and on his left forearm was a knife wound nearly half a meter long.
He looked shocking, barely human at all, like a warrior who had just returned from the arenas of the Roman Empire, covered in wounds and hanging on by a single breath.
“How did this happen to you?! And what about Han Fu’s men? Why are only the two of you left here?”
“They turned on each other. It only took a few words from me to stir them up. I just said there were so many of them, and Han Fu is stingy. When the time came, if none of them died, he would definitely dock their pay. Then dividing the money would become a problem-who got more, who got less. But if only one person was left to take credit for capturing me and claim the reward, Han Fu would have to pay according to the agreement. I had barely finished speaking before they started fighting. Blades and bullets don’t have eyes, and they even injured me.”
After Bo Suihan finished, he lowered his head in a pitiful manner and took another two steps forward, presenting his wounds to Wu Xiaojiu.
Seen up close, the knife wound and bullet wound were even more terrifying. The flesh around them was mangled and bloody, a sight too gruesome to bear.
