Chapter 107

That plane was not only something they almost never saw-it also seemed to carry extraordinary significance for the soldiers of Dragon King Island.

The soldiers of Soldier King Island were trained with perfect discipline. Every last one of them was a weapon born for slaughter and for protecting the Dragon King. Aside from the Dragon King’s orders and the Dragon King’s personal safety, they ignored everything else, casting it all to the back of their minds.

So whether it was the earlier roar of the helicopter, or Lin Yang standing on the aircraft deck with a megaphone, shouting in an outrageously showy manner…

Each sight and sound should have been enough to draw everyone’s attention, yet the Dragon King’s Soldiers below remained rooted in place. Solemn and strict, they turned a blind eye to every external disturbance.

But when that plane flew over, confusion suddenly appeared on their faces. Then, as if they had agreed on it beforehand, they all raised their heads in perfect unison.

Once they saw the plane’s exterior, their bewildered expressions turned to joy. Bo Suihan watched them with a smile, then turned to Wu Xiaojiu and said softly, “Guess who’s here? How about I introduce you to them today?”

Wu Xiaojiu was so startled that his eyes widened to twice their size. He pointed at Bo Suihan’s nose, then waved his hand beside his own cheek as if fanning the air, signaling for him to stop talking nonsense.

“You don’t mean those ladies up on the mountain, do you?”

By the time he finished speaking, Wu Xiaojiu finally realized who was sitting inside those planes. Terror flashed across his face as he looked up at the nine planes in the sky, and for a moment, he could barely get his tongue to work.

“It can’t really be them, right?! No way. Your masters are all antiques. Your Fifth Master already wasn’t satisfied with me back then, and if your Second Master, Third Master, and First Master-those terrifying big shots-show up in front of me and find out this man is your lover, won’t they cast a spell and wipe me out?! I’d better hide in the aquarium.”

As he spoke, Wu Xiaojiu clutched his head and tried to bolt.

Bo Suihan pulled him back. At that exact moment, the planes overhead were about to land nearby.

“They won’t. They’re not that brutal. Sure, they can be a little vicious with their words, but at most they’ll scold the two of us from head to toe. Once they turn around, we’ll still be one big happy family.”

“Oh, very nice, Bo Suihan! We only just got together, and you’re already trying to get me yelled at! Get lost, get lost!”

Neither of them had noticed anything yet. Wu Xiaojiu aimed straight for Bo Suihan’s weak spot and kicked him twice in a row.

Hands on his hips and cheeks puffed out, he cursed Bo Suihan out without leaving him the slightest bit of dignity in front of several hundred people. After he finished, he turned and tried to run.

Unexpectedly, the moment he turned around, he crashed into someone’s waist.

Wait. Waist?

Wu Xiaojiu clutched his aching forehead and lifted his face in confusion. Then he had to tilt not just his neck, but his entire head up before he could barely make out who was blocking his path.

She was a towering two meters twenty-one tall, wearing sky-high stilettos. Her upper body was clad in a cropped leather jacket that looked sharp and efficient, and her hair was cut extremely short, giving her an incredibly fierce, aggressive edge.

Wu Xiaojiu froze.

Could a person really grow that tall?

He kept looking up carefully and realized the newcomer was a woman. Though her features were very sharp and well-defined, and her skin was somewhat rough, her relatively gentle eyes made it possible to tell.

Wu Xiaojiu turned his head and saw that the planes had already come to a steady stop.

His heart instantly tightened with nerves.

Rubbing his forehead, he hurriedly backed away.

But after only a few steps, he remembered he had bumped into someone. Seeing the woman’s waist had been reddened from the collision, he quickly bowed and apologized, saying sorry over and over.

[System, she couldn’t be one of the nine from the mountain, could she?]

[Host, your guess is correct. She ranks ninth on the mountain. In the jianghu, she’s known by the nickname Tall and Highly Skilled. Don’t let her height fool you-she’s actually very easy to get along with. On top of that, she’s mastered the arts of music, chess, calligraphy, and painting. Any painting or qin performance that passes through her hands has to go to auction before a price can even be set.]
If the one ranked ninth is already this terrifying, then wouldn’t the one ranked first be off-the-charts insane? I don’t want to meet them!

Wu Xiaojiu silently wept in his heart.

He was panicking for absolutely no reason, and panicking hard.

It felt like a son-in-law meeting his mother-in-law for the first time. No matter what he did, it felt wrong, and he half wished he could just drop to his knees and kowtow twice on the spot to make things right.

And since the woman saw that he wasn’t saying anything, she didn’t say anything either.

So there they were: one person staring straight at the other, while the other lowered his head and wished he could crawl into a crack in the ground.

The atmosphere grew more and more awkward.

In the middle of that awkward silence, Bo Suihan stepped forward, slung an arm around Wu Xiaojiu’s shoulders, and gave him a little shake. Then he lowered his head, rested it beside Wu Xiaojiu’s neck, and softly comforted him. “Don’t be scared. Ninth Master is really easy to get along with. You just have to say hello and tell her, ‘My name is Wu Xiaojiu,’ and she’ll pick up the conversation right away.”

By now, Wu Xiaojiu’s entire face was bright red, like a ripe apple. Hearing that, he barely managed to raise his hand.

He gave Ninth Master the tiniest little wave, as if even a mosquito could have missed it.

Then, in a voice as thin as a mosquito’s buzz, he said extremely softly, “Hello. My name is Wu Xiaojiu. I’m Bo Suihan’s friend. It’s very nice to meet you.”

Bo Suihan raised a hand beside him and added, “Not an ordinary friend, by the way. A very special one.”

Wu Xiaojiu lowered his head even further. In that instant, he honestly wanted to die.

But after the two of them finished speaking, the supposedly easygoing Ninth Master in front of them still didn’t react.

The more Wu Xiaojiu thought about it, the more awkward he felt. With no response from her for so long, his head dipped lower and lower until he was practically bowing.

Bo Suihan, for once, didn’t know what was going on either. He frantically pointed at Wu Xiaojiu in front of Ninth Master, trying to get her to say something.

Just as the atmosphere froze into awkwardness all over again…

Ninth Master, who had not moved for ages, finally spoke.

That six-foot-nine frame, that razor-sharp outfit, and that aggressively striking face all transformed into one incredibly bashful sentence.

“Sorry about that. I’m a little too embarrassed to talk to you. Little friend, you’re so cute. You’re like a bamboo shoot freshly dug up from the back mountain.”

Wu Xiaojiu’s face turned even redder, his lips pressing into a thin line. He looked up at Ninth Master and realized that, at some point, her brown skin seemed to have darkened a shade.

“Thank you for the compliment. You’re very good-looking too.”

That sentence seemed to flip a switch in Ninth Master. The moment the words left his mouth, her six-foot-nine height abruptly shrank to five feet. Ninth Master crouched down in front of Wu Xiaojiu, her once murderous eyes now opened perfectly round.

“Really? This is the first time anyone has ever praised me like that. Usually, when people talk about me, they say I look scary and I’m just a big dumb lump.”

After saying that, Ninth Master suddenly realized the two of them were a little too close. Embarrassed, she cupped her cheeks in her hands and looked at Wu Xiaojiu with an eager yet shy expression.

“Are you really with our Bo Suihan? Our child has been solitary since he was young and never got close to anyone. It must have been hard on you, being able to get along with him. It’s all right. If he doesn’t play nicely with you, come find Ninth Master. When the time comes, I’ll hang out with you instead.”

The first few sentences had still been fairly normal.

Wu Xiaojiu had just breathed a sigh of relief, thinking the two of them had finally returned to a normal social rhythm.

He never expected Ninth Master’s last sentence to make his brow twitch. His eyes widened, and he looked at Bo Suihan in a panic.
