Chapter 303
Chapter 303
It was the first time I had seen Seventh Master lose control of his emotions.
Perhaps he was not only disappointed in Lin Jinhua, but in humanity itself.
To achieve their goals, people could condemn even close friends to death.
Was human nature frightening? Its darkest side could not be looked at directly, any more than the blazing sun.
Even more frightening was that Lin Jinhua did not believe he was wrong.
From beginning to end, he showed not the slightest regret.
“I was wrong. I shouldn’t have harmed you, Seventh Master Zhao. That was faithless and dishonorable of me.”
“But I never wanted to hurt you. Someone forced me to do it! Only by harming you could I save my son. What else could I do? I’m suffering too! I had no choice!”
Seventh Master nodded and laughed in anger. “Fine. Let’s say I, Zhao, deserve to die and my life is worthless. I won’t count that against you. But to save your son, you planned to trade seven lives for his. Do you believe you’re blameless for that too?”
Lin Jinhua fell silent for two seconds, then shook his head. “I did nothing wrong. I, Lin Jinhua, have performed countless good deeds. When evil men commit a hundred crimes and then perform a single good deed, you say a prodigal son’s return is worth more than gold. I have helped countless people, yet I make one mistake, one mistake, and you refuse to let it go!”
“Go and see what truly evil people are like!”
“A man like Jiang Dahai committed murder and arson. I put him behind bars. With that act alone, I indirectly helped countless people and rid society of a scourge! Yet you fixate on this one mistake!”
The more Lin Jinhua spoke, the more agitated he became. Suddenly, he had seized the moral high ground, as though we were the ones creating trouble over nothing.
“What utter bullshit!”
Seventh Master cursed furiously. “Performing good deeds gives you the right to take lives? Then ask the people you helped whether they’re willing to give you their lives. If even they refuse, what right do you have to kill people who never received a shred of kindness from you?”
Lin Jinhua retorted emotionally, “You’re so noble! All of you are noble! It isn’t your son who’s dying, so you can afford to be righteous! How extraordinary you are!”
Seventh Master shouted, “Did you perform those good deeds just so you could claim the right to take other people’s lives? Ask everyone in the world whether they approve! Do your good deeds make you superior to everyone else?”
Lin Jinhua roared, “I am superior! If I weren’t, how could so many people have benefited from my kindness? Ask them whether I’m superior!”
“And I’m doing it! I will use Life Extension on my son! I will watch him grow up healthy! Call the police! Call them right now! Let’s see whether they dare arrest me!”
Lin Jinhua’s roars echoed throughout the villa.
Lin Yin was so frightened that she did not dare speak from beginning to end.
We all stared blankly at Lin Jinhua.
Was it wrong to help a hundred or a thousand people, then harm one?
Legally, the answer was certainly yes. Morally, I suspected there was no single answer.
But declaring Lin Jinhua blameless would be equivalent to declaring that poor people’s lives could be taken at will, that after accepting charity, the poor surrendered their fates to the wealthy and powerful.
I did not believe Lin Jinhua was right.
“Boss Lin, your son bears the sign of an early death. It is Heaven’s decree.”
I spoke calmly. “This is your son’s fate. Trading the lives of seven other people to keep him alive is inherently wrong. Their lives are lives too. They have wives, children, parents, and elders. When you chose them to die, did you truly believe that choice aligned with the intentions you held when you first began performing good deeds?”
Lin Jinhua burst into laughter, then suddenly glared at me with a savage expression. “Heaven’s decree? You’re lecturing me about Heaven’s decree? I’ve performed so many good deeds. Aren’t good people supposed to receive good rewards?”
“If good deeds brought me rewards, would my son have developed a terminal illness? Would I need to find someone to extend his life?”
“To hell with Heaven’s decree! The Heavenly God is a fucking bastard!”
Song Xiaotian, who had remained silent, wiped his face.
He looked expressionlessly at Lin Jinhua. “We aren’t police or fucking moral judges. Whether you’re wrong is your own concern. We only want to know who taught you the Seven Deaths for Life Exchange. Was it Du Yunting?”
Lin Jinhua suddenly fell silent, but his reaction had already provided the answer.
Song Xiaotian nodded. “So it was. Where is Du Yunting now? Is he in Lincheng?”
Lin Jinhua remained silent. He and Du Yunting were in the same boat now, and he depended on Du Yunting to perform Life Extension on his son.
Seeing that Lin Jinhua refused to speak, Song Xiaotian did not attack him. Instead, he walked over to Assistant He and dragged him forward.
“What are you doing? What do you want?”
“This is Lincheng, President Lin’s territory! You wouldn’t dare touch me!”
Assistant He’s face was bloodless with fear. He covered his head while still trying to intimidate Song Xiaotian.
But intimidation was the one thing Song Xiaotian never feared.
He grabbed Assistant He by the hair and smashed his head into the glass coffee table.
Bang!
The table shattered. Blood pouring from his head, Assistant He curled up on the floor, howling and sobbing.
“What are you doing?”
Lin Jinhua flew into a rage. “Have you forgotten who I am? Have you forgotten where you are? This isn’t Lanjiang City!”
Song Xiaotian looked at him coldly. “I’m only giving you a demonstration. I don’t care who you are. I don’t agree with what you’ve done, but I can’t be bothered arguing. I let my fists do the talking.”
He pointed at Seventh Master. “Old Man argued with you forever without laying a hand on you, but I’m not him. When I ask something, you answer. Keep acting tough and you’ll die an ugly death.”
“I’ll ask once more. Is Du Yunting in Lincheng?”
Song Xiaotian’s arrogance enraged Lin Jinhua as well. He craned his neck and shouted, “I don’t know! If you have the nerve, then today you can…”
Before he finished, Song Xiaotian became a blur.
We could not even see which leg he used before Lin Jinhua went flying.
“Dad!”
“Lin Yin!”
Song Xiaotian roared her name, frightening Lin Yin rigid. “This has nothing to do with you. Stay to the side.”
How could a young woman like Lin Yin withstand Song Xiaotian’s intimidation? She truly did not dare move again.
Song Xiaotian walked over to Lin Jinhua and planted a foot on one of his hands.
Anger and pain filled Lin Jinhua’s face. Soon, only agony remained. He did not hold out long before speaking hurriedly. “He is! Du Yunting is in Lincheng!”
“Where in Lincheng?” Song Xiaotian released him and asked again.
“At a hotel near my company.”
“How many people did he bring to Lincheng?”
“Eight!”
“Tell me your entire plan exactly as it happened.”
Song Xiaotian looked down at him without expression. “A warning first. If I detect even one lie, I’ll chop off one of your hands. I hope you don’t test whether I have the nerve.”
