Chapter 111
Chapter 111
Song Xiaotian’s words suddenly brought me a moment of clarity.
Because of what happened to my father, I had been completely immersed in my own grief, forgetting that it was Du Ruhai who had ordered my father to hire a hitman to kill Fang Man.
At the very least, my father wasn’t the primary culprit behind Fang Man’s death.
Instead of committing suicide in such a cowardly way, why shouldn’t I take a shot at him…
“But he has Bodyguards protecting him. I can’t beat them. I’m afraid I won’t be able to kill him…”
“Afraid of this, afraid of that. If you’re that useless, don’t blame Xiaoman if she calls you a loser when you see her in the afterlife.”
Song Xiaotian’s face was grim. “Li Xiumei’s ashes are in my car. I bought an identical urn to hold them. You can lie to Du Ruhai and tell him those are Du Mingyang’s ashes. You only get one chance. It’s up to you whether you know how to use it. If you do, you’ll get your revenge.”
I pondered Song Xiaotian’s words, and the more I listened, the more sense they made.
On my own, I naturally couldn’t kill Du Ruhai, but if I brought Li Xiumei along, I might actually have a chance.
“Brother Tian, you’ve lost your mind! He’ll die!” Meng Yifan said, sounding angry.
“What the hell do you know!” Song Xiaotian barked. “He didn’t die today, but what about next time? Or the time after that? If living is just suffering for him, why make him stay alive? We’re all adults here. You can try to advise someone, but if they won’t listen, you have to let go. Don’t you understand such a simple concept?”
After saying that, Song Xiaotian grabbed me and hauled me to the car. He shoved Li Xiumei’s ashes into my arms and drove me toward Du Ruhai’s location.
Meng Yifan kept trying to talk us out of it, but Song Xiaotian didn’t say another word.
He was a man of his word, and he truly drove me to the vicinity of Du Ruhai’s private Club.
I got out of the car clutching Li Xiumei’s ashes. Meng Yifan grabbed me desperately, trying to stop me from going.
“You’re crazy, both of you are crazy! Is this really necessary? Isn’t being alive better than anything else? No matter how great the pain is, it’ll pass eventually! Once you’re dead, you’re really dead!”
Song Xiaotian pulled out a length of rope and tied Meng Yifan up right then and there.
Meng Yifan couldn’t resist at all and immediately started cursing in a rage. “Song Xiaotian, what the hell is wrong with you! You’re going to get him killed! You’re both toxic!”
Song Xiaotian had a cigarette dangling from his lips, his expression cold. “If you really consider him a brother, then respect him. The suffering is his; no one else has the right to tell him to just ‘look on the bright side.’ I’m just letting him create a little value before he goes, so at least he doesn’t have to die so pathetically.”
With that, he patted my shoulder. “Go on. You’re definitely not coming back out today. For the sake of our brotherhood, this is as far as I can take you. If you fail to kill Du Ruhai, I’ll find another opportunity later. As long as he’s breathing, I won’t rest.”
I nodded. “Thank you. If you have time, go see my grandfather. After my father and I are gone, there will be no one to look after him.”
Song Xiaotian replied, “Don’t worry. I’ll cover the costs for his nursing home. I’ll go visit him during the holidays.”
I didn’t say anything else. Holding Li Xiumei’s ashes, I walked toward the entrance of the Club.
When we had come here before, there was no security at the door, but there was now-likely because of what had happened last time.
I wasn’t sure exactly how many Bodyguards had died here that night, but a loss of life was a major event. Despite that, not a single word of it had leaked out to the public.
This was likely the power of money.
“Halt. What are you doing here?” A security guard at the door quickly blocked my path.
“I’m here to see President Du. These are his son’s ashes. Go and report it,” I said, holding up the urn.
The guards’ expressions changed the moment they saw the object, likely thinking it was bad luck.
About five or six minutes later, the man who went to report returned and told me to come inside.
Two security guards followed me the entire way-one leading the path in front, and the other behind me, gripping a baton.
Instead of taking me upstairs, they led me to the garden inside the Club.
I soon saw Du Ruhai. He was sitting there, sipping tea with a leisurely air. Another teacup sat on the stone table, as if he were expecting a guest.
I glared at him coldly. Although I was alone this time, I didn’t feel any stage fright.
I was going to die anyway, so what the hell did I have to be afraid of?
“Back again.”
He looked up at me and smiled slightly. “I heard you brought my son’s ashes, Chen Mo. You really are a kind-hearted man.”
The moment I saw that smile, a sense of unease washed over me.
He seemed to know that these weren’t Du Mingyang’s ashes…
“You already handed the ashes over to the boy’s mother. Did you really think I was that easy to fool?”
Du Ruhai exposed my lie on the spot.
I said nothing, freezing in place as our eyes met.
“Chen Mo, you’re much stronger than your cowardly father, but you have one flaw-you don’t use your head. You thought I was as stupid as you.”
Du Ruhai shook his head and couldn’t help but laugh. “Did you never stop to think why Li Yujiao failed to kill me when you brought her here last time? Or why I dared to let her in again this time?”
Just as he finished speaking, the urn in my arms began to shake violently, as if it were on drugs.
A wave of intense dread surged into my heart without warning. But this wasn’t my fear; it was Li Xiumei’s. She was terrified, and she was projecting that terror onto me.
There was something nearby… something that was suppressing her.
Soon, an Old Man stepped out.
This Old Man was dressed strangely, his face clouded with an aura of malice. He held an object that looked like a Pestle.
I didn’t recognize the object, but I could tell at a glance it was no ordinary item.
The Old Man gripped the Pestle, chanting something under his breath while making various gestures.
He quickly pulled out a Straw Doll with a Yellow Talisman stuck to it. Gripping the Pestle, the Old Man stabbed it straight into the Straw Doll.
A woman’s blood-curdling scream suddenly echoed through the empty garden, making my heart lurch in shock.
That scream belonged to Li Xiumei!
I panicked instantly. Looking down at the urn in my hands, I saw it had returned to a state of calm at some unknown point. Even that inexplicable dread in my heart vanished instantly.
It was as if Li Xiumei had disappeared…
I realized then that Du Ruhai knew Li Xiumei’s Birth Date and Time…
“Kid, what makes you think you’re in my league? You actually thought you could kill me?” Du Ruhai said mockingly.
“I’m your father! I’ll slaughter you!” My eyes turned bloodshot as I pulled out a knife and lunged at him, prepared to take him down with me.
But while the fish died, the net didn’t break. He subdued me in just a few moves, snatched Li Xiumei’s ashes, and slapped a talisman onto the urn.
“You’ve forgotten what I used to do for a living. I was killing people while you were still playing in the mud.”
He whispered this into my ear before kicking me away.
Before I could crawl up from the ground, a group of Bodyguards rushed out and began to beat me mercilessly.
“No need to keep this brat alive. Just use him for target practice. Beat him to death!”
At Du Ruhai’s command, the Bodyguards acted as if they’d been injected with adrenaline. They beat me even harder. Even without weapons, they had me scurrying like a rat, my face covered in blood as I tried to protect my head.
I hated how useless I was. I had come here to die together with him, yet I couldn’t even leave a scratch on my enemy.
“Chen Mo, use your blood to cover the Yang Fire on your shoulders and forehead.”
In my dazed state, a woman’s voice suddenly drifted into my ears.
I was startled, but I quickly recognized it as Du Yuwei’s voice.
