Chapter 112
Chapter 112
The woman who looked exactly like Du Yuwei even shared her voice.
Just a moment ago, when I jumped off the bridge, she had saved me. My subconscious assumed it was her speaking to me again.
But this voice whispered directly into my ear. It wasn’t her; it was Du Yuwei.
I hurriedly reached out to smear the blood from my face, taking advantage of the chaos to slap it onto my left and right shoulders before dabbing a drop onto the center of my brow.
Every person has three lamps of Yang Fire: one on the left shoulder, one on the right shoulder, and one on the crown of the head.
I knew Du Yuwei wanted to possess my body, which required extinguishing these three lamps of Yang Fire first. I didn’t understand why the one on the crown had been replaced by the center of the brow, but since she wanted me to do it, I followed her instructions.
The moment I finished dabbing my brow, the ambient temperature suddenly plummeted by dozens of degrees. The chill was like being thrust into an ice locker-no, it was even colder than that.
Strangely, despite such a staggering temperature difference, no one else seemed to react at all.
I realized instantly that this was yin energy. Du Yuwei had already entered my body.
In a flash, my eyes felt as if they were covered by a layer of red gauze. Everything before me became a hazy blur, and the mist was crimson. I could actually see everyone’s Yang Fire.
Those three lamps of Yang Fire were distributed on their heads and shoulders, varying in intensity from person to person.
Suddenly, my body moved against my will. I shoved through the crowd and stood up.
The group was about to surround me again, but all of their expressions shifted instantly. They were overcome with extreme terror; the more faint-hearted among them collapsed straight to the ground in fright.
“He… he’s not human!”
“He’s a ghost!”
Hearing their screams, I looked down. My hands had turned a bruised blue-purple, exactly like Du Yuwei’s corpse.
I guessed my face had turned the same color.
My body acted without my control again. I reached out and grabbed the person closest to me, using my other hand to snuff out the Yang Fire on top of his head.
As soon as one lamp was extinguished, the man stopped struggling. His body simply wouldn’t stop shaking.
I placed both hands on his shoulders and snuffed out all three of his Yang Fire lamps.
With his back to me, he suddenly pulled a knife from his waist and pressed it against his own throat.
The others gasped, their expressions twisting with even deeper dread.
“Save… save me…”
“I don’t want to…”
He sobbed hysterically, unable to finish the last sentence of his life before violently slashing his own throat.
Blood sprayed across the ground as he collapsed into a pool of gore.
The crowd immediately scattered in terror, running to find cover.
Even these Bodyguards were afraid of ghosts.
Even the Old Man took two steps back, his expression turning solemn. “President Du, it’s a Mother-Child Shade. Her resentment is incredibly heavy.”
Du Ruhai bolted upright, his voice filled with excitement. “Quick, catch her! You must catch her! Don’t let her escape!”
The Old Man looked conflicted. “President Du, she is a Mother-Child Shade. She won’t be easy to deal with…”
“I didn’t pay you to hear excuses!” Du Ruhai roared in fury. “If she gets away, don’t even think about leaving Lanjiang City. You won’t leave for the rest of your life!”
The Old Man appeared to be an expert, yet he clearly feared Du Ruhai’s power.
“Then I shall try…”
As he spoke, he held a Pestle in one hand and pulled out a Straw Doll with the other. He bit his finger and dabbed a drop of blood onto the Straw Doll’s head.
Only then did I notice that this Old Man only had one lamp of Yang Fire, while Du Ruhai only had two.
I deduced that the Old Man must be using some form of sorcery. He had likely extinguished two of his own lamps of Yang Fire to fuel his dark arts.
But if the only Yang Fire he had left was extinguished, he would be finished for sure.
“Yin and Yang of Heaven and Earth, evil spirits be subdued!”
The Old Man gripped the Pestle, preparing to plunge it straight into the head of the Straw Doll.
I sensed Du Yuwei’s panic almost instantly.
“What the hell are you doing!”
Du Ruhai roared at the Old Man. “I told you to capture her, not to harm her!”
The Old Man broke into a cold sweat. Rattled by Du Ruhai’s shouting, he momentarily forgot his next move.
In that split second, Du Yuwei took control of my body and charged straight at him, raising a hand to snuff out the Yang Fire on top of his head.
But this Old Man was just as cunning as Old Zhao Seven. Seeing the danger approaching, he ignored Du Ruhai’s warning and swung the Pestle back toward me in a counter-thrust.
Du Yuwei maneuvered my body to dodge. I evaded the Old Man’s attack, and he managed to avoid mine.
I immediately seized back control of my body, breaking free from Du Yuwei’s influence. Driven by my own will, I snatched the knife from the Old Man’s waist and lunged at Du Ruhai.
This unexpected strike caught Du Ruhai off guard. His face paled as he scrambled to dodge, but he was a fraction of a second too slow. The tip of the blade sank into his shoulder.
If his reflexes hadn’t been so sharp, that blow would have taken his life.
He glared at me through gritted teeth, refusing to make a sound even as his expression twisted into a hideous mask of rage.
“You’re looking for death!”
His massive fist slammed into my face, followed by a rain of heavy blows.
Yet, at this moment, I felt no pain at all. I opened my mouth, but it was Du Yuwei’s voice that came out.
“You animal! You murdered my family! You ruined my entire life!”
As she spoke, Du Yuwei forced my right hand to strike hard against Du Ruhai’s left shoulder.
He only had two flames of Yang Fire, one on each shoulder.
As the second flame was extinguished, his pupils suddenly changed. Just like someone who had stopped breathing, his pupils dilated completely, turning into the glazed eyes of a dead fish.
Even the left side of his face turned a sudden ashen gray, looking exactly like a corpse.
I thought he had suffered a devastating blow, but then, the other half of his face twisted into a localized, eerie smile.
He ripped off his shirt, revealing a lean, muscular torso. His skin didn’t look like that of a man nearing fifty at all. I felt that there was something very wrong with Du Ruhai today…
But even stranger was the tattoo on his body.
A ‘Buddha’ was tattooed on his chest. This Buddha looked bizarre-and I had seen it before!
When we went to the cemetery to take Du Mingyang’s ashes, we had seen some stone carvings on Baishi Mountain. The figures in those stone carvings were identical to the Buddha on Du Ruhai’s chest.
He was part of an evil cult…
“If you won’t be obedient, then don’t blame me.”
Du Ruhai spoke coldly, throwing a punch straight at my chest.
Though I had temporarily lost the ability to feel pain, a sharp, agonizing sensation suddenly bloomed in my chest. I was sent flying by the force of the blow, crashing hard onto the ground. A metallic sweetness filled my throat, and I spat out a mouthful of blood.
“Your body is too weak. I need to possess that Old Man, otherwise your own Yang Fire will go out too.”
I heard Du Yuwei’s voice again.
As soon as she finished speaking, the Old Man suddenly lunged at me. Before he could grab my throat, I slammed my palm onto the top of his head, extinguishing his final flame of Yang Fire.
Almost simultaneously, Du Yuwei transferred herself from my body into his.
The Old Man’s face went blank. He suddenly snatched the knife from my hand and plunged it directly into his own eye socket.
