Chapter 132
Chapter 132
Anning and I scaled the wall and made our escape.
She was even more agile than I was. She landed without a moment’s pause and took off running like a rabbit.
I glanced back and realized several people were standing guard outside, seemingly acting as lookouts. The moment they saw us emerge, they immediately started chasing after us.
Anning hopped onto a motorcycle and frantically waved me over.
I rushed over and climbed onto the back of her bike.
The engine roared to life, and we sped away, leaving everyone in the dust.
I didn’t know where she was taking me, and I didn’t ask.
I just knew that neither she nor Du Yuwei would ever hurt me.
The bike was moving fast. She hadn’t had time to put on a helmet, and her long hair whipped back, lashing across my face.
“Help me tie it up.”
She slowed down and handed me a hair tie.
I froze for a second before quickly taking it, but I had no idea how to use the damn thing…
I fumbled with it for ages without success, only succeeding in making her hair a frizzy mess.
“You don’t even know how to tie hair?” she asked, her voice full of disdain without looking back.
“I’ve never done it before…”
Through the rearview mirror, I saw her smile.
When she smiled, she looked exactly like Du Yuwei.
“You never tied your girlfriend’s hair?”
“No…”
She pulled over to the side of the road. As she tied her hair herself, she asked, “Can you ride?”
I nodded.
“Then you drive. My hand hurts.”
Only then did I notice she was injured. She must have scraped it earlier; there was a bloody gash across her palm.
“I’ll take you to a clinic to get that bandaged.”
She looked at me and said nothing.
I looked back at her.
The atmosphere suddenly became a bit awkward.
“What are you looking at me for? Get on.”
“Oh…”
I quickly hopped into the driver’s seat, my face flushing bright red.
Ever since I fell seriously ill at the age of eleven, my grandfather and father had forbidden me from having contact with the opposite sex. As a result, whenever I found myself alone with a woman, I felt completely out of my element.
Back when I was with Fang Man, she was the one who had pursued me.
If she hadn’t made the first move, I probably would have stayed a bachelor for the rest of my life.
Now that she was gone, it looked like I was headed back toward a lifetime of bachelorhood.
Once I was on the motorcycle, I couldn’t help but twist the throttle, sending us flying.
“Hey, why are you going so fast? We’re not even wearing helmets.”
“Sorry, my hands have a mind of their own… Whenever I get on one of these, I can’t resist the urge to race…”
After I said that, I heard Anning chuckle again. “What are you, some kind of Ghost Fire Youth?”
The more she talked, the more fired up I got. “How’d you know? Back in the day, I was the Racing God of our crew. I even broke my leg once.”
She laughed again.
“Then try leaning into a turn.”
“Fine, I’ll show you!”
There was a curve up ahead. Compared to the open highway, the turns in the city were child’s play.
I executed a stylish lean, maintaining my speed as I swept through the corner.
But I didn’t get much further before I had to slam on the brakes. Two traffic cops were standing ahead, staring at us with wide eyes. They probably hadn’t seen anyone dare to speed and lean into turns like that in the middle of the city before.
I was stunned. I thought to myself, *It’s this late and they’re still checking vehicles? Talk about dedication!*
I didn’t have my driver’s license or the vehicle registration on me. I was screwed.
“You two, get off the bike!”
“Speeding in the city, leaning into turns, and no helmets? Are you trying to ride straight to the King of Hell?”
The traffic cop was beyond furious. If he’d had a gun, he probably would have shot me.
“Sorry, it’s been a long time since I raced-I mean, since I rode.”
“You haven’t ridden in a long time and you still dare to pull stunts like that? Hand over your registration and your driver’s license.”
“I don’t have them on me…”
Upon hearing that, the cop trembled with rage. “Driving without a license, eh? Fine, you’re really something!”
“Six points off your license, a four-hundred-yuan fine, and I’m impounding the bike. Bring your registration and license to the traffic department tomorrow!”
I broke out in a cold sweat from the sheer terror of it.
I didn’t care if he docked all twelve points from my license, but this wasn’t even my car!
Damn it, why did I have to act like such a big shot in the middle of the night?
Anning’s face paled slightly. She shot me a fierce glare and whispered a name under her breath.
“Wenjing…”
As soon as she spoke the name, my body suddenly shuddered, and my vision was once again flooded with a wash of crimson.
The two traffic officers, who were just about to take the car keys, suddenly froze in place. It was as if they had been turned to stone, their expressions becoming vacant and dull.
“What are you standing there for? Get in!”
Anning snatched the keys back and scrambled into the car, glancing back to glare at me again.
After we drove off, she said irritably, “You should have told me sooner that you didn’t have a license.”
“You didn’t ask…”
“Idiot!”
Half an hour later, she dropped me off inside a park.
It was a large, open public park. Many people usually came here for the scenery, mostly young couples on dates.
I got out of the car, but Anning stayed inside.
It seemed she was leaving as soon as she delivered me here.
I realized in an instant: Du Yuwei was coming.
Our meeting was originally supposed to take place at the amusement park, but for some reason, Du Ruhai had found out about it.
“You haven’t treated the wound on your hand yet,” I called out to Anning as she was about to drive away.
She didn’t look back. “I’ll handle it myself.”
“Thank you, Anning,” I said quickly. “You’ve saved me so many times before. If it weren’t for you, I would have died at least twice by now.”
Once from jumping off a bridge, and once from being buried alive.
She looked back at me. “Are you going to jump off any more bridges?”
I shook my head, my face flushing with embarrassment. “No more jumping.”
She said nothing more and drove off.
I watched her car disappear, unable to snap out of it for a long time.
I always felt as if she didn’t truly exist.
After all, she and Du Yuwei looked so much alike that I couldn’t distinguish between them at all.
Just then, a burst of infant laughter came from behind me. Turning around, I saw that Du Yuwei had already emerged from my body and was holding the child.
The child was laughing, and so was Du Yuwei.
I found it hard to imagine that this mother and son had already killed six people.
As soon as the child saw me, he immediately reached out his small hands, wanting me to hold him.
I hurriedly took him into my arms. The tension and fear I felt the first time were gone.
Aside from his abnormal body temperature, all his other features were just like a normal child’s, and he was quite adorable.
“Are you alright?”
Du Yuwei suddenly asked, “Were you hurt just now?”
I shook my head. “I’m fine, I’m used to it. But why was there an ambush? How did they know we were meeting at the amusement park?”
Du Yuwei’s smile faded. “The one who sent you the text was Anning, my sister… It’s possible her number is being monitored by that beast.”
I frowned. “Du Ruhai already knows about Anning’s existence?”
Du Yuwei nodded without a word.
I thought to myself that Anning must be in danger. Since she and Du Yuwei looked identical, there was no guarantee that a pervert like Du Ruhai wouldn’t develop some twisted intentions.
After all, one was dead, but the other was very much alive…
No wonder Du Yuwei had suddenly started harming people.
She was likely afraid that Du Ruhai would move against Anning, so she was desperate for revenge-desperate to eliminate Du Ruhai.
I originally wanted to ask her about He Tao, but I suddenly didn’t know how to bring it up.
After all, I had no right to criticize her.
After a moment of thought, I took the initiative to mention my father and grandfather.
“My father and grandfather are dead.”
I looked at her while holding the child. “What happened to your family… was caused by my father and grandfather. They did it to save me. I’m sorry.”
