Chapter 151
Chapter 151
I remembered a person Du Yuwei once told me about.
That person was an eleven-year-old boy. Back then, he was one of the seven people used to extend my life.
For some unknown reason, Lv Zhengxian hadn’t killed the boy immediately. Instead, he had brought him home and kept him locked away for three days.
During those three days, Du Yuwei had stayed with that boy.
I remembered her saying that those were the three happiest days of her life-after her parents died, but before she herself passed away.
Later, the boy was taken away by Lv Zhengxian, and Du Yuwei never saw him again.
The boy was five or six years older than her, and his name was Li Fuguang.
She called him Brother Fuguang.
He called her sister.
Just now, I heard that name. I heard Du Yuwei call me Brother Fuguang.
Li Fuguang. As the name resurfaced in my mind, a flood of foreign memories suddenly rushed in-memories that belonged to Li Fuguang.
One memory was of my mother picking me up from school. We were walking down a secluded path when a van pulled over. A man jumped out; it was Lv Zhengxian.
He grabbed my mother by the hair and slammed her head violently against a tree, knocking her unconscious.
Then… then he bundled me into the vehicle. The person driving was a woman I also recognized: Li Xiumei.
A second memory: I was taken back to Lv Zhengxian’s house. I was terrified. He had beaten me severely in the van; every time I cried out, I received a slap to the face. Eventually, I stopped daring to cry.
In that house, there was a little girl named Xiao Jing. She was even younger than me. Seeing how scared I was, she kept trying to comfort me. She stayed with me for three days. I never knew her full name, only that she was called Xiao Jing.
During those three days, because she was there, I didn’t feel quite as afraid. I was like someone who had fallen into the ocean, grabbing onto a piece of driftwood just as I was about to drown. That driftwood couldn’t bring me back to shore, but it gave me a sliver of security, keeping me from sinking.
That little girl was my driftwood.
I was older, so she called me Brother Fuguang.
She was younger, so I called her sister.
Our lives only intersected for those three days. After the third day, Lv Zhengxian came to take me away.
I didn’t know where he was taking me, but I had a premonition that I would never see the little girl again. I felt that I was in grave danger.
And so, the fear and dread returned.
Before I left, she gave me a lollipop and told me she would wait for me to come back.
The moment that lollipop was pressed into my mouth, my fear suddenly vanished. That piece of driftwood held me up once more; I knew it wouldn’t let me sink.
But reality was cruel. Lv Zhengxian had no intention of returning me to my mother. Where was he taking me?
He took me to a remote little house. Inside were two men, one young and one old.
Furthermore, there was a child there the same age as me-except that child was already dead.
That child looked like he was just sleeping. His name was Chen Mo.
I had been kidnapped to extend his life.
My fate had been sealed long ago. Yet, at the moment of my death, I surprisingly felt no fear of the end. My only thought was that I couldn’t go back, and that the little girl was still waiting for me.
Even as Lv Zhengxian slit my throat and began to bleed me out, my final thought remained: I can’t go back.
I wasn’t Chen Mo at all.
I was Li Fuguang.
I… I was never the beneficiary of the Seven Deaths for Life Exchange…
I was the victim!
I looked at Du Yuwei, who was lying on the ground, gasping for her final breaths. Tears and snot streamed down my face as I wailed at the top of my lungs.
“I’m back! I’m back, little sister!”
She could no longer speak, but her voice reached directly into my heart.
“I lived, and you died…”
“I died, but you live on in another way…”
“Since this world… is beautiful, you must… take a good look at it. Don’t let… this journey be in vain…”
With those final words, two last trails of tears fell. Her body became increasingly thin and ethereal, like a fading shadow.
She was like a rainbow, fleeting and transient, until she vanished before my eyes.
There was… nothing left in front of me.
“Wenjing!!”
“Little sister!!”
Anning’s broken voice reached my ears.
I stared at everything before me with numbness. I could no longer distinguish whether I was Chen Mo or Li Fuguang.
I possessed the memories of Chen Mo, yet I also held the memories of Li Fuguang.
The father and grandfather in my memories were actually the enemies who had murdered me.
“Chen Mo!!”
Suddenly, Anning screamed my name with all her might.
I froze for a moment before turning around. As soon as I did, I saw Du Ruhai rushing toward me, knife in hand.
I couldn’t dodge in time, but I managed to avoid my vitals. The blade quickly pierced through my shoulder.
He grabbed my hair and pinned me ruthlessly to the ground. His face was a mask of ferocity, looking as if he wanted to swallow me whole and skin me alive.
This man’s tenacity was staggering; he wasn’t dead yet, even though I had clearly stabbed him through the heart.
But I soon understood. The Evil Buddha was still there. It was the power of the Evil Buddha that was sustaining him, though the entity itself was becoming illusory.
I suddenly realized that the Evil Buddha could lend its power to the one who summoned it, but the entity’s manifestation also depended on the summoner. If the summoner was on the brink of death, the Evil Buddha would vanish as well.
“Lv Zhengxian, I remember everything now.”
I glared at the man before me, addressing the soul of the monster who had started it all. “You killed me to extend Chen Mo’s life. You heartless beast, you killed Xiao Jing, and you killed so many people.”
“I hate you. I hate that you died too early. I hate that I never had the chance to torture you.”
“I’m going to send you to hell!”
I stared at him with a twisted expression, using every ounce of my strength to pull the knife out of my shoulder.
He also used all his strength to press down on the blade.
I didn’t have enough physical strength left to fight him for the knife. I simply gave up on the blade in my shoulder, reached up to hook my arm around his neck, and bit down.
“Ah!!”
I bit right through his windpipe. I spat out the flesh and continued to tear at him.
I was like a frenzied beast, determined to devour him and rip him apart.
He barely let out a couple of sounds before his severed windpipe rendered him silent.
I stared at him expressionlessly, biting down piece by piece until he stopped moving, bitten to death by my own teeth.
He was dead, staring up at the sky with eyes wide in a final, hateful grievance.
I spat on the ground, stomped on his face, and picked up the knife before walking toward Anning.
I cut the ropes binding Anning. She was saved.
But I could no longer hold on. My vision went black, and I collapsed.
