Chapter 113
Chapter 113
It was the first time I’d ever seen someone stab themselves in the eye.
Nearly two-thirds of the blade sank into the socket, making my own eyes throb in sympathetic pain.
The Old Man was definitely dead.
The moment Du Yuwei left my body, I collapsed onto the floor like a deflated ball.
Right then, Du Ruhai moved again. He wasn’t coming for me, though; he was heading for the possessed Old Man.
He fished a piece of yellow cloth out of the Old Man’s pocket, quickly yanked the knife out of the corpse’s eye, and wrapped the cloth around the head to cover both eyes.
The Old Man suddenly began to struggle, but the sounds coming from his throat were the ragged gasps of a woman.
Du Ruhai locked him in a chokehold from behind, sneering, “You aren’t going anywhere. Now that you’re back, don’t even think about leaving. He’s waiting for you… He’s waiting!”
My heart hammered against my ribs as I watched. Du Ruhai’s movements were so practiced, so precise-it was as if he had known the Old Man would be possessed. He was trying to use the Old Man’s body as a cage for Du Yuwei.
But what did he mean by “He’s waiting for you”? Who was waiting for Du Yuwei?
Wasn’t Du Ruhai himself the one who wanted her back the most?
I couldn’t let Du Yuwei fall into that den of monsters again. Forcing my body to move, I stood up and staggered toward Du Ruhai, trying to slam into him.
But I was too weak. Despite the knife wound in his shoulder, he was still agile. He dodged easily and sent a kick my way, sending me flying.
Furious and desperate, I scrambled up and lunged at him again. I couldn’t outfight him, but I could bite. I sank my teeth into his wounded shoulder.
“Argh! You motherf-!”
Du Ruhai let out a pained howl and cursed, “You mad dog! Are you part wolf?”
As he cursed, he pulled a Yellow Talisman off the Old Man’s person and slapped it onto the corpse’s forehead. The Old Man instantly went still. His remaining eye stared at me, filled with helplessness.
I knew it was Du Yuwei. She was pleading for help, begging me to tear off that Yellow Talisman.
Just as I reached out for it, Du Ruhai grabbed me, hoisted me over his head, and slammed me violently onto the floor.
That impact nearly ended me. I felt like I was being split in two.
I couldn’t understand it. How did a business tycoon find the time to train his body to be more formidable than his own Bodyguards instead of studying ledgers?
He picked up a knife and walked over to me, looking down with a mocking sneer. “You people never realize how stupid you are. You’ll go to your grave never understanding what it means to strike a stone with an egg.”
With that, he gripped the hilt with both hands and drove the blade down toward my heart.
I used every ounce of strength I had left to block the strike. The tip of the blade stopped barely half an inch from my chest.
I had been seeking death, but I refused to die like this. I was being played even in my final moments. He had threatened my father, forcing him to hire a hitman to run over Fang Man. He treated Fang Man’s life like a game, and he had made it impossible for me to ever face her parents again.
How was I supposed to tell them that my own father was the one who paid to have their daughter killed?
“You’ll get what’s coming to you!” I glared at him, my eyes nearly bursting with rage.
“The powerless always use that word to beg for so-called justice.”
Du Ruhai gripped the hilt tighter and sneered, “If you’re powerless, why do you deserve justice? You get what you deserve. Do you understand?”
“I will get justice for Fang Man!” I roared. I grabbed his hands and yanked them toward my left arm.
The blade plunged straight through my forearm. Du Ruhai froze in shock. Taking advantage of the opening, I pulled out the knife I had been lying on and buried it deep into his abdomen.
He gripped my hand, glaring at me with uncontrollable rage.
“Then let’s die together!”
My eyes were bloodshot as I kicked out with all my might, forcibly wrenching the knife out of my own arm.
The agony was so intense it felt like it was tearing at my very soul. Cursing under my breath, I gripped the bloody knife and limped toward him. “You son of a bitch… Who are you calling incompetent? Weren’t you supposed to be such a big shot? You killed Fang Man. Even if I die, I’m taking you to the grave with me!”
He slumped on the ground, scrambling backward while staring at me with a vicious, defiant look, as if he refused to accept this.
Just then, a hand clamped around my throat from behind. With a sudden surge of strength, I was slammed onto the ground.
“President Du is injured! Everyone, get out here!”
The man pinning me down roared, and the Bodyguards who had been hiding earlier immediately came rushing back out.
I was quickly pinned to the dirt by several men. Du Ruhai, his face pale, snarled, “Kill him! Hack him into pieces and feed him to the dogs!”
Without a word, a bodyguard grabbed my hair, pulling my head back to expose my throat. He was getting ready to bleed me like a pig at a New Year’s slaughter.
To say I wasn’t afraid would be a lie. Even though I was seeking death, I wanted it to be by my own hand; I didn’t want to die such a miserable, gruesome death.
Just as the blade touched my skin, a sudden incantation echoed through the garden.
“Ancient shadows hidden deep, where all things fierce and savage creep. By Shun’s command, the demons flee; by Taiqing’s light, the heavens see. A hundred battles, victory won-the Qian and Kun are now as one!”
The voice was powerful and authoritative. As the last word fell, a figure leapt down from a tree like a wild beast. He tackled the bodyguard holding the knife, slamming him to the ground and knocking him unconscious with a single punch to the head.
That figure was none other than Old Zhao Seven!
“Summon Qiongqi!”
He let out another thunderous roar. His eyes turned a demonic red, and eerie beast-like patterns crawled across his neck and half of his face.
Before the others could react, he launched an attack with a blade. In a few swift motions, he took down everyone surrounding me. His knife moved like a magician’s trick; as he neutralized the men, he simultaneously sliced through every single one of their Achilles tendons.
He stood there, silent and profound, possessing an air of majestic invincibility.
I stared at him with wide eyes, so shocked by the display that I almost didn’t recognize him.
But a second later, Old Zhao Seven glared at me and demanded, “Where’s Song Xiaotian? Tell him to come out. I want another round with him! If I don’t beat him into submission today, I’ll take his damn last name!”
I told him I had come alone and that Song Xiaotian wasn’t here.
“Hah!”
Old Zhao Seven looked at me in surprise. “You’ve got some guts, kid. You gave up on suicide and moved straight to a murder-suicide pact?”
I forced myself up, retrieved my knife from the ground, and limped toward Du Ruhai again.
This time, a flicker of genuine fear finally appeared on the man’s face.
However, Old Zhao Seven called out to stop me. “Killing him is useless.”
I gritted my teeth. “How is it useless? He threatened my father and made him hire a hitman to run over Fang Man. For that alone, I won’t let him off. At worst, I’ll just go to prison!”
Old Zhao Seven said slowly, “What I mean is… that man isn’t Du Ruhai.”
I froze in my tracks. I looked at the man on the ground, then back at Old Zhao Seven in disbelief. “What did you say?”
Old Zhao Seven walked over to the man, grabbed him by the hair, and forced his face up. “Look closely. Du Ruhai is forty-seven this year. Lv Zhengxian is also in his forties. Does this man look like he’s in his forties to you?”
“He’s just a Body Double who had plastic surgery.”
