Chapter 160
Chapter 160
Song Xiaotian’s temper was essentially an upgraded version of Meng Yifan’s.
As he spoke, he actually looked ready to get physical with Tao Xiaoyu.
It was mostly because Tao Xiaoyu’s sophistry was so morally bankrupt that Song Xiaotian couldn’t hold himself back.
I quickly grabbed him, preventing him from doing anything.
We were out on the street; if the police were called, he’d be looking at at least fifteen days in detention.
Tao Xiaoyu was also frightened. Tears kept streaming down her face, making it look as if we were the ones bullying her.
“Tao Xiaoyu, I’m not going to waste words with you. We caught you red-handed today, and there’s no way we can act like this didn’t happen. To be honest, you don’t deserve Meng Yifan.”
I said coldly, “Break up with him yourself, and I won’t tell him about this. Otherwise, with his temper, you and that man of yours will end up as corpses in the street.”
After saying that, fearing I wouldn’t be able to hold Song Xiaotian back much longer, I quickly pulled him away.
This whole situation was a mess.
Because of that Stigmatized Property, Meng Yifan had been bogged down in lawsuits, and his business had been ruined by others.
Now that he had finally managed to get his business back on track, working himself to the bone every day, his woman was out fooling around with someone else.
If he found out about this, I was truly worried he would fall into a deep depression.
We decided to keep it from him for now, fearing he might do something reckless.
Early the next morning, Song Xiaotian and I went to the shop.
We had warned Tao Xiaoyu last night. She was surely afraid of Meng Yifan finding out, so she should have broken up with him by now.
Meng Yifan loved her so much that being suddenly dumped would definitely be a huge blow. As his brothers, Song Xiaotian and I needed to be there to comfort him.
However, when Meng Yifan arrived at the shop that morning, nothing seemed wrong at all. He was actually quite happy about how the business was going.
“What the hell is going on? Is he hiding his sorrow behind a smile?”
Song Xiaotian pulled me out of the shop to discuss it.
“Is he really this happy about a breakup?”
“Breakup my foot!”
I was completely bewildered. “If he had broken up with Tao Xiaoyu, there’s no way he’d be in this state. One time they had a fight and broke up, he cried like his father had died.”
“It looks like Tao Xiaoyu didn’t bring up the breakup with him.”
What was the deal? Was this woman not afraid of us exposing her?
“Maybe she hasn’t figured out how to tell him yet,” Song Xiaotian guessed. “Getting caught in the act last night probably terrified her. I don’t think she’d dare to defy us on this. Let’s just give her some time.”
I nodded and said nothing more.
As we were talking, Meng Yifan walked out of the shop and excitedly told us how much money they had made recently.
“Oh, by the way, I called Su Qian yesterday and told her she can come back,” Meng Yifan said. “That girl has good grades; she needs to keep studying. It would be a waste of talent if she didn’t. I told her that if she has trouble with tuition, I’ll pay for it. Your big brother is making plenty of money now anyway.”
“Also, I’m planning to take Xiaoyu on a trip to Chongqing soon to see the mountain scenery.”
Meng Yifan bragged to us with a look of longing, “I’ve made so much money lately, I have to take her on a high-end tour. We’ll play for three to five days before coming back. What do you guys think?”
Song Xiaotian and I exchanged a glance, suddenly feeling very sorry for him.
Song Xiaotian tried to advise him, “I say, Boss Meng, you’re making all this money-wouldn’t it be better to spend it on yourself? Why do you have to spend it all on Xiaoyu?”
Meng Yifan turned serious. “Isn’t that normal? Xiaoyu is going to marry me later, so she’s my wife. Why else does a man earn so much money if not to spend it on his woman?”
Song Xiaotian was momentarily speechless. “Where did you learn that? Isn’t your mother a woman? Why don’t you spend it on her?”
Meng Yifan shrugged. “My mom… she has her own money. Besides, I send her plenty of red envelopes during the holidays. It’s not like one excludes the other.”
Song Xiaotian was speechless.
I looked at Meng Yifan and asked, “How can you be so sure the two of you are definitely getting married?”
Meng Yifan paused, his expression turning serious. “Isn’t it obvious? We’re already living together, so of course we’re getting married. Don’t you guys know me? I’m not the type to shirk my responsibilities. I’ve already thought it through-once business stabilizes and I’m not so busy, I’ll propose and go to her house to ask for her hand.”
“If I’m short on the bride price then, you two better lend me some cash, hehe.”
With that, he trotted back inside, looking quite pleased with himself.
Song Xiaotian stamped his foot in frustration. “I want to go in there and slap him.”
I sighed. “Just endure it, even though I want to slap him too.”
That damn simp. Making money was hard enough, yet he spent every cent he earned on that woman.
And he thought living together meant marriage was a given.
He was being romantic and pure-hearted, but she might not be playing by the same rules.
Song Xiaotian and I were scheduled to take a client to see a Stigmatized Property in the afternoon, so we had nothing to do all morning.
When lunchtime rolled around, we ordered a few boxed meals.
Aside from the three of us, only Xie Peng was in the shop; the other three employees were out chasing leads.
Xie Peng had effectively become the permanent shopkeeper. Whether there were customers or not, he was always the one left behind to watch the place.
The four of us were eating and chatting when suddenly-
A woman walked in. It was Tao Xiaoyu.
Song Xiaotian and I looked up at her, momentarily stunned.
Tao Xiaoyu looked radiant, showing absolutely no sign that she was about to break up with Meng Yifan.
I suddenly felt a sense of unease. I had a feeling she was about to stir up trouble.
“Xiaoyu? What are you doing here? Weren’t you out shopping with your friend?”
Meng Yifan immediately set down his chopsticks, abandoning his meal to rush over and greet her.
Tao Xiaoyu pulled an exquisite gift box from her bag and handed it to Meng Yifan with a smile. “I bought this for you. An Armani belt. It cost two thousand.”
Meng Yifan opened the box, and his expression changed instantly. “This… this is too expensive. You should go back and return it.”
Tao Xiaoyu replied, “Why would I return it? I picked it out specifically for you.”
Meng Yifan looked awkward. “It really is too expensive. This two-thousand-yuan one… it doesn’t look that different from my twenty-yuan one. I don’t need to use something this nice. Just return it.”
“Listen to yourself,” Tao Xiaoyu countered. “You usually buy me bags worth tens of thousands, and I use them. Why shouldn’t you use this? Don’t be so hard on yourself.”
Meng Yifan’s face flushed. The look of pure bliss on his face made him look more ecstatic than if he had won a hundred-million-yuan lottery.
He even glanced back at Song Xiaotian and me, showing off.
As he turned his head, Tao Xiaoyu also shot a glance my way. It was a look of pure provocation.
“Honestly, you only know how to deprive yourself while letting outsiders take your money.”
Tao Xiaoyu looked at me pointedly and huffed. “But some outsiders don’t know the meaning of gratitude. Who knows what kind of harmful things they’re doing behind your back?”
Song Xiaotian and I both stared at her with cold expressions.
Meng Yifan was also stunned. “What… what do you mean?”
Tao Xiaoyu pulled out her phone and showed Meng Yifan something. Pointing at me, she cried, “This ‘brother’ of yours is utterly shameless and depraved! He actually tried to hit on me! He’s been sending me harassing messages constantly, asking me to sleep with him!”
“He’s absolutely disgusting!”
