Chapter 205
Chapter 205
It was the first time I’d ever argued with a client.
In sales, the biggest taboo was getting into a fight with a client. Once you started arguing, it meant the deal was basically dead.
I’d met my fair share of unreasonable weirdos before, but it had always been the other party who lost their temper first. This time, I was the one who snapped.
The things I said grew uglier and uglier, and I ended up getting into a full-blown shouting match with Fang Yongshan.
His mother came running out to join in too, cursing out my entire family from top to bottom.
Naturally, I couldn’t outcurse that Old Woman, so I turned around and left.
After leaving Fang Yongshan’s place, I called Meng Yifan and explained the situation to him.
“If he doesn’t want to sell, then forget it. What’s he acting so damn high and mighty for? It’s not like I’m counting on his one deal to make me rich.”
Meng Yifan cursed over the phone, “Let that mother and son go to hell. What kind of people are they?”
Before he could finish, Seventh Master’s voice came through the phone. “Chen Mo, did you give him the key back?”
I said I hadn’t. “That Old Woman’s mouth was too filthy. She cursed me right out of there, and I forgot to return the key. I’ll go give it back now.”
“Then don’t return it yet,” Seventh Master hurriedly stopped me. “If the deal fell through, then so be it. But Liu Jing still needs an Exorcism. We’ll go again tonight, and you can return the key tomorrow.”
I didn’t refuse.
Liu Jing really did need an Exorcism. If we didn’t help her move on, then even though she was already dead, she would still be trapping herself in those painful memories. It was honestly pitiful.
Besides, performing an Exorcism for a dead soul was also a way to accumulate Hidden Virtue.
I needed to build up more Hidden Virtue, so my dad and my grandpa could reincarnate sooner.
Things were going smoothly on Seventh Master’s side. They were already performing the Exorcism for Feng Gang.
After Seventh Master talked sense into Feng Gang and made him realize how hard it was for his wife to raise two children on her own, Feng Gang obediently accepted the Exorcism.
After leaving Fang Yongshan’s place, I went back to the office first.
Only Xie Peng was there. Anning wasn’t in either; she’d gone out today to hand out flyers.
I’d just gotten back and hadn’t even sat down when Xie Peng pulled me aside and asked, “Second-in-Command, where did you recruit this girl Anning from?”
I asked him what was wrong.
Xie Peng said, “Nothing exactly. It’s just… she’s really something. I don’t even know how to describe it. Why don’t you go see for yourself? She’s handing out flyers at the intersection down below.”
I thought, How weird could handing out flyers possibly get?
But since he’d brought it up, I had to go take a look.
As soon as I reached the intersection, I saw Anning handing out flyers.
She wasn’t slacking off. On the contrary, she was taking it very seriously. Whenever someone passed by, she handed them a flyer.
The strange thing was, no one took any of the flyers she offered. I watched for several minutes. At least twenty people passed by, yet not a single one accepted.
When I walked closer and listened, I finally understood why Xie Peng had called her weird.
Every time she handed out a flyer, she told the person this was a Stigmatized Property, that someone had died there, and that it was very cheap, then asked if they wanted it.
At this rate, I figured she wouldn’t manage to hand out a single flyer by closing time.
I quickly went over and stopped her. “Anning, you can’t talk to people like that. If you say it that way, of course no one will pay attention to you.”
She looked at me in complete confusion. “Why? Aren’t we selling Stigmatized Property? What I said was that it’s a Stigmatized Property.”
I explained seriously, “People in our country are very sensitive about death and Stigmatized Property. If you open your mouth and mention those two things right away, people will think it’s unlucky. They won’t even want to learn more about it, so how could they possibly be interested? And without interest, we can’t close any deals or get any sales performance.”
She still didn’t understand. “Then what should I say…?”
I passed on my experience to her. “First of all, don’t say it’s a Stigmatized Property where someone died. You need to say our property is forty percent cheaper than market price, or even half off. That way, most people will want to know more and will take the initiative to ask you about it.”
“That’s when you tell them the house is a Stigmatized Property, that someone died there.”
Anning said, “But people will still think that’s taboo…”
I said, “That’s when our sales pitch gets put to the test. First, you have to downplay their stereotypes about Stigmatized Property. Tell them, yes, someone died in a Stigmatized Property, but where on this land has no one ever died? People die in hospitals every day. Someone has died in every hospital bed. Everyone has that day coming eventually.”
“Second, you have to emphasize the price advantage of Stigmatized Property. It’s cheap. Some people might never be able to afford a home in their entire lives, but with this amount of money, they can buy a house better than they ever expected.”
“Third, create anxiety. With young men, bring up getting married and having kids. With young women, bring up premarital assets and husbands cheating. With middle-aged people, tell them their son won’t be able to find a wife in the future if he doesn’t have a house…”
“After you say all that, they’ll definitely still hesitate. That’s when you exchange contact information. Anyone willing to leave their contact info is a potential client. Do your follow-up properly, and there’s a decent chance you’ll close a deal. Got it?”
I spent a full half hour explaining it to her, teaching her every bit of experience I had.
She seemed to half understand.
I stayed there with her, handing out flyers, and watched for more than an hour.
She really did stop mentioning that someone had died there or that it was a Stigmatized Property. Instead, she asked people whether they were poor…
That night.
Seventh Master and the others only returned when the shop was almost closed.
We went to a restaurant for dinner together, then prepared to head to Liu Jing’s home.
We were already in the car and about to set off when Fang Yongshan called me.
I thought he was calling to ask me to return the keys. To my surprise, he had actually agreed to what I’d told him during the day.
“Mr. Chen, my mother’s tone wasn’t very good during the day. I hope you won’t take it to heart.”
Over the phone, he apologized to me. “I’ve thought carefully about what you said today. After you left, I had a fight with my mom. It’s rare for a person to wake up and realize things. I feel awful right now. I miss my wife…”
His voice was very low. I could tell he was in a terrible mood.
I hadn’t expected him to suddenly come around. I couldn’t help feeling a little comforted for Liu Jing, and I quickly apologized to him as well. “I had a foul mouth today, and I said some harsh things. I’m sorry about that. As for the Old Woman…”
He said, “I’ve already spoken to my mom. No matter what, we have to fulfill my wife’s final wish. I owe my wife too much. If she refuses to go, I’ll sever our mother-son relationship.”
Fang Yongshan’s last sentence startled me.
I thought to myself, as a son, he was pretty extreme.
I asked Seventh Master when we could arrange for them to meet.
Seventh Master said anytime was fine, but daytime would be best. After all, for Fang Yongshan and his mother, nighttime would still be somewhat frightening.
I discussed it with Fang Yongshan and arranged for his family to see Liu Jing one last time at three o’clock tomorrow afternoon. Then, right around sunset, we would send Liu Jing on her way.
After hanging up, I told Seventh Master and the others that Fang Yongshan’s change was way too dramatic.
During the day, he still wanted nothing to do with his wife for the rest of his life. By night, he was ready to cut ties with his mother for her sake.
“It’s perfectly normal.”
Seventh Master seemed to see it very clearly. “Only regretting it and learning to cherish someone after you’ve lost them-isn’t that a mistake everyone makes?”
