Chapter 145
Chapter 145
The yin energy in the room had become so heavy that it was bone-chilling.
After seeing that shadow, we all froze in place.
That shadow was Du Yuwei.
Only she could possess such heavy yin energy, and the fact that it had reached this level could only mean one thing: in the past half-month, she had harmed many more people…
But why would she come here?
Song Xiaotian and Meng Yifan instinctively felt a surge of fear. They quickly retreated two steps, hiding behind Old Zhao Seven.
I didn’t move, and neither did Old Zhao Seven, but his brow was already furrowed. His body was tense, ready to strike at any moment.
He had been searching for Du Yuwei this whole time, intending to kill her to stop the two sisters from harming others.
He hadn’t expected Du Yuwei to deliver herself right to his doorstep today.
Anxiety flared in my heart.
These two sisters hadn’t contacted me for over half a month.
Now Du Yuwei had suddenly appeared and wasn’t even avoiding Old Zhao Seven. I worried… she couldn’t be here to kill Old Zhao Seven, could she?
While we were still dazed, the shadow moved onto the wall, forming a clear silhouette of a person.
Soon, the silhouette solidified. Like a 3D projection, she stepped directly out of the wall, taking on the form of Du Yuwei.
She looked at us, and we looked at her.
Old Zhao Seven reached into his pocket, likely reaching for a Talisman.
The atmosphere in the entire room suddenly became oppressive.
But to our surprise, Du Yuwei didn’t attack us. She didn’t try to hurt anyone; instead, she knelt straight down.
This sudden kneel left even Old Zhao Seven stunned.
Our eyes widened, unable to understand why she was doing this.
“What is the meaning of this?” Old Zhao Seven asked, frowning at her.
Two tear streaks suddenly appeared on Du Yuwei’s face, and her eyes turned slightly red. “Please, save my sister Anning. She was taken by Du Ruhai.”
I was shocked by her words.
Something had happened to Anning…
Before I could speak, Old Zhao Seven said with a cold face, “And? What does her being captured have to do with us? From the looks of it, you’ve harmed quite a few people already. With such heavy yin energy, why don’t you go save her yourself?”
Du Yuwei lowered her head, not daring to look at Old Zhao Seven. “I can’t. I harmed so many people just to seek revenge against him. He isn’t that powerful himself, but there is a monster by his side that I can’t deal with.”
Knowing what Du Yuwei was referring to, I asked, “Are you talking about that Evil Buddha we saw that night?”
Du Yuwei nodded.
I turned to Old Zhao Seven. “What exactly is that Evil Buddha?”
Song Xiaotian chimed in, “That thing looks just like a Buddha from Buddhism, so it must be related to Buddhism, right?”
Old Zhao Seven shook his head and explained, “Buddhism isn’t an evil cult; it’s a religion that guides people toward kindness. How could it produce something so sinister? The Buddha has no fixed form. In Buddhism, it is taught that all things are composed of the Five Aggregates, and these aggregates are impermanent, lacking self-nature, and non-abiding. They have no fixed form or essence.”
“In other words, anything can take the image of a Buddha, but it can never truly represent the Buddha. What is the definition of an evil cult? It is to harm people and perform evil acts-we all know this. But an evil cult is still a religion. Since it’s a religion, it needs to develop followers. The birth and development of any religion rely on forming its own doctrines and philosophies to make people believe.”
“But what doctrines do evil cults have? They have none. They can’t exactly use their methods of harming people to recruit disciples on a large scale. So, they plagiarize the doctrines and philosophies of legitimate religions-specifically the parts the general public doesn’t understand-to form their own teachings. Then, they create an image of an omnipotent deity to deceive the masses.”
I felt like I understood him, yet at the same time, I didn’t.
It was probably like those fraudulent health experts who plagiarize legitimate wellness theories and then mix in their own twisted logic. When you try to argue with them, they pull out the correct theories to shut you down.
Ignorant people then take it all as gospel, believing the twisted parts along with the truth.
If one of these experts said eating feces was good for your health, there would probably be people who would actually do it.
I told Old Zhao Seven that the Evil Buddha was incredibly powerful and could even possess people, so it didn’t seem like something created by humans.
“It is also formless.”
Old Zhao Seven shook his head. “Only its image was created by humans, not the entity itself. Its image is merely a totem or a symbol for The Organization. I don’t know what its true form is, but it must be some kind of major Evil Spirits. In our Daoism, orthodox gods never possess humans. Those that possess human bodies are always monsters or malevolent spirits.”
“That Evil Buddha isn’t exactly possessing her, either. It’s likely similar to how one would borrow power from an Ancestral Master. You have to become its believer before it will grant you its power.”
I said the point wasn’t the origin of the Evil Buddha, but rather that it was just so incredibly powerful…
“You know it’s powerful, too.”
Old Zhao Seven glanced at me before looking at Du Yuwei. “So why should I risk my life to save someone? Especially someone who has harmed others?”
Du Yuwei began to sob. The eerie, terrifying look was gone from her beautiful, pale face, replaced only by desperation.
After all, Anning was her only relative left in this world, and her twin sister to boot.
“Anning didn’t hurt anyone. I was the one who hurt people. I just asked her for help. Her sins don’t deserve death.”
“Don’t deserve death?”
Old Zhao Seven snapped angrily, “Go say those words to the families of the victims! Ask them if you two sisters deserve to die!
“I warned you long ago to stop hurting people, but neither of you listened. Now that something’s gone wrong, you come looking for me? Why should I save her? So you can keep hurting people? I can’t shoulder that kind of karmic debt.”
Seeing Old Zhao Seven’s firm stance, Du Yuwei actually began to kowtow, her head hitting the floor repeatedly. “I beg you, please save Anning. I’m begging you. As long as you get her out, you can kill me to avenge those people.”
“Anning can’t fall into his hands. I beg you, please!”
Watching her kowtow over and over made my heart ache.
I knew what she and Anning had done was heinous, but if Anning fell into Du Ruhai’s hands, she would become the second Du Yuwei.
Everything Du Ruhai had done to Du Yuwei would likely be repeated on Anning.
“Seventh Master, maybe we should…”
“Should what!”
Old Zhao Seven turned and glared at me fiercely. “Think about how many people those two sisters have killed! Why aren’t you standing up for the victims instead!”
I was speechless, but I still braced myself and said, “You’re right. They don’t deserve to be saved. Anyone can despise them. But I have to save her. I have no choice.”
“Then I wish you luck.” Old Zhao Seven looked at me expressionlessly and turned to walk away.
“Seventh Master!” Song Xiaotian called out quickly, but he couldn’t stop him.
“That Old Man… he just leaves like that? What a temper. He’s got a shorter fuse than my dad.”
After Old Zhao Seven left, Song Xiaotian and Meng Yifan both looked at me.
I knew they didn’t want to save Anning, either.
