Chapter 259
Chapter 259
I did not believe the little girl meant us any harm.
Her ability to express herself was limited, which made everything she said ambiguous.
But when I tried to confirm my interpretation with her, she shook her head again.
I began to grow anxious. Seventh Master’s life and mine were at stake.
“What does that shake mean? Did I misunderstand, or are you trying to say something else?” I asked, gripping her shoulders.
“I don’t know.” She kept shaking her head. “Someone buried something here. Something very dangerous.”
Seventh Master crouched down and calmly asked, “Girl, when you say here, where exactly do you mean? Nearby? This building? Or the exact place where we’re standing?”
She shook her head again. It was obvious she desperately wanted to tell us something but could not get it out. “I don’t know. Something was buried here.”
After thinking for a moment, I said to Seventh Master, “Why don’t we find another way out? This little girl doesn’t mean us any harm, and it’s better to be safe than sorry.”
Seventh Master rose and glanced outside once more, his attitude firm. “I believe this Little Ghost means us no harm, but the words of children aren’t reliable.”
“The Thunder Method is the supreme art, unmatched in its ferocity. I may not compare to the great Daoist Priests of Daoism, but I don’t believe there’s anything that can withstand the Thunder Method.”
With that, Seventh Master returned to the entrance and formed the invocation seal again.
He still intended to use the Thunder Method to break the Ghost Wall.
This was Inauspicious Land. Perhaps only the Thunder Method could break the field here.
“In the Nine Heavens Response to Origin Mansion, the Supreme Jade Purity King commands the Five Thunders, moving through the Three Realms, father of all living beings and master of all spirits. I respectfully invite the Celestial Worthy of the Nine Heavens, Responding to the Origin, Thunder Sound and Universal Transformation to suppress the dead!”
When Seventh Master finished the invocation, he thrust both hands forward.
Every hair on my body instantly stood up. It felt as though electrical currents were flowing through the air.
The little girl abruptly released the hem of my clothes. Terror filled her face, and she ran off to hide in the distance.
She was not the only one afraid. I was unnerved too and hurriedly backed away several steps.
I was afraid there might be a current leak.
“Bzzzt.”
The powerful crackle of electricity erupted at the entrance.
The current was so strong that it ionized and heated the air, sending streaks of lightning flowing out through the doors.
The light from the electricity gradually drove back the darkness. I could already see a meter beyond the entrance.
Delight surged through me. The Thunder Method really worked. Even Inauspicious Land could not withstand its ferocity.
But I had forgotten the little girl’s warning.
If she meant us no harm, then she had been telling the truth. She simply had not managed to explain herself clearly.
Sure enough, in the next instant, the lightning that had been flowing outside suddenly reversed direction. It gathered into a ball of lightning and hurtled toward Seventh Master.
My expression changed, and I screamed a warning.
But the lightning returned so quickly that even though Seventh Master sensed the danger, he had no time to evade it.
His own Thunder Method struck him head-on. A blinding white light filled the entrance, followed by a deafening explosion that sent him flying backward.
When Seventh Master hit the floor, he was unconscious. Black smoke rose from his entire body, making him look as though he had been scorched by fire.
“Seventh Master!”
I rushed over to check his injuries.
The moment I touched him, however, a current threw me back.
“Seventh Master! Seventh Master!”
I called him several times, but he gave no response.
The sight made my scalp prickle. I could not help thinking that this stubborn Old Man had been warned by a ghost that it was dangerous, yet he had still insisted on using the Thunder Method.
That inauspicious hexagram had truly come to pass!
The little girl ran over from the shadows but did not dare approach. All she could do was lie on the floor and try to wake Seventh Master.
“Uncle! Uncle!”
No matter how long she called, Seventh Master did not respond.
I was at a loss when every hair on my body stood up again. A nameless terror surged inside me.
Something outside seemed to be moving toward us!
I stared out through the front doors. A moment later, the thing walked straight inside.
My eyes widened. Terror rooted me to the spot.
Over the past few months, I had witnessed all kinds of horror and encountered every manner of wronged spirit and Evil Spirit. But I had never seen anything as terrifying as this. I could not even find words to describe it.
I was not the only one frightened. The little girl was too.
She seemed even more terrified of it than I was. Her expression went blank, and her entire body began to tremble.
“Run!”
I shouted to her. Ignoring the electricity still coursing over Seventh Master’s body, I forced him onto my back.
Carrying Seventh Master, I sprinted deeper into the hotel while the little girl followed close behind.
The hotel was enormous, but the interior had not yet been finished, so there were openings everywhere.
I had no idea where I should run. The instinct to survive simply kept my legs moving.
That thing seemed to be catching up. If it caught us, Seventh Master and I would die without even a place to be buried.
Whenever I saw an opening, I plunged through it without another thought.
But unfinished buildings like this were full of holes. One step into an empty space, and the fall could leave a person dead or crippled.
At a moment like this, I had no time to watch the path carefully, so I stepped into one.
My foot came down on empty air, and my body instantly lost its balance. With Seventh Master’s weight pressing down on my shoulders, the two of us fell almost straight down.
I had no idea how far the drop was. I did not even have time to react before I struck the bottom. My mind went blank, though I remained conscious for a moment. Then Seventh Master landed on top of me and knocked me out cold.
When a person lost consciousness, it was like sleeping without dreams. The intervening time vanished entirely from awareness.
I was certain I would die. That terrifying thing would catch up and kill both Seventh Master and me.
Strangely, however, my consciousness returned. I had no idea how much time had passed.
When I woke, I slowly opened my eyes. Darkness still surrounded me, but there was enough faint light to make out my surroundings.
I seemed to be inside a room, lying in one of its corners.
After staring blankly for more than ten seconds, I rose and immediately sensed that something was wrong.
The room was small, only a dozen or so square meters, but none of its furniture or decorations looked modern.
The entire room resembled one from a wealthy household during the Republican era.
During a trip to another province, I had once visited a perfectly preserved courtyard residence that had belonged to a warlord during that period.
I stood there frozen for a full minute.
Had I traveled through time? Could this place be…
Luo Mansion a hundred years ago?
Just then, the voices of two children came from outside.
I hurried to the door and crouched down, trying to hear what they were saying.
“Brother, Xiuzhu is washing clothes. Let’s go mess with her.”
“She shouldn’t have stolen my pastries. Mother told me she isn’t our sister. Her mother had her with another man. She’s a bastard.”
Those two lines left me dumbfounded.
This really was Luo Mansion!
And the time seemed to be just before the little girl, Luo Xiuzhu, was killed!
