Chapter 262
Chapter 262
A voice came from the corner.
And it was calling my name.
I recognized Seventh Master’s voice and rushed over in delight.
A small cabinet stood in the corner, and the voice was coming from inside it.
I opened the cabinet door and found Seventh Master leaning inside. His clothes were torn from the backlash of the Thunder Method. His face was scorched black, and blood stained the corner of his mouth.
He was badly injured!
“Seventh Master! It really is you!”
I hurriedly helped him out of the cabinet and pulled over a chair for him.
He certainly looked badly hurt, but his injuries were still less severe than the time he had nearly died taking Du Ruhai down with him.
That time had nearly cost him his life.
After resting for a while, Seventh Master looked at me and said weakly, “I knew you’d find me.”
Surprised, I asked, “I only knew you were here because I cast a hexagram using your name. How were you so sure I would find you?”
He smiled without answering, then sighed. “I’m old. I don’t have the instincts I did when I was young. I can’t believe my own Thunder Method blasted me into this state. Absolutely goddamn ridiculous.”
I suddenly remembered Xiuzhu trying to stop him before he used the Thunder Method.
She had warned him it would be dangerous.
“Xiuzhu was right. Someone buried something underground.”
I looked at Seventh Master. “Someone deliberately put it there. They’re trying to kill us.”
Seventh Master frowned. “We only came here because Brother Lin asked for our help. Without his invitation, we never would have come. I have no enemies in this area, and neither do you. Who would want to kill us?”
I was not sure whether I should say what I was thinking, but I said it anyway. “Could Boss Lin be the one trying to kill us? He’s the most suspicious person.”
Seventh Master froze, then firmly shook his head. “Impossible. There is no deep hatred between us. Quite the opposite. I found someone to treat his father, and when the old man died, I helped examine the Feng Shui. I wouldn’t say I did him some enormous favor, but he has no reason to kill me. It makes no sense.”
“Besides, we’re friends. We came here to solve his problem. He has no reason to hurt us.”
The way Seventh Master put it, Boss Lin might have looked suspicious, but he truly had no motive.
I could not imagine who wanted us dead.
Whoever it was had buried that object before we arrived, and we did not even know what the object was.
“The little girl may have been telling the truth, but she expressed it badly.”
Seventh Master said, “Someone may indeed have buried something beneath the hotel, but she didn’t explain how long ago they did it. Perhaps someone was targeting Brother Lin, and because we’re here to solve his problem, we naturally became the first people in the line of fire.”
“For now, we need to find a way out.”
I asked Seventh Master what this place was.
Everything happening here had already occurred a hundred years ago, and none of the people could see me.
After hearing my account, Seventh Master pondered for a moment and said, “This should be a Ghost Domain.”
“Ghost Domain?” I did not understand. “Do you mean the realm of the dead?”
Seventh Master shook his head. “If the people here can’t see you, then what you’re witnessing may operate on the same principle as a mirage, or a film. You’re immersed in events that took place a hundred years ago.”
“But you can still touch objects here. I can hide inside that cabinet and sit on this chair. We can’t interact with the people, but we can interact with the things.”
“Yet think about it carefully. We lost consciousness inside that hotel. Could we physically come to this place? No. So all of this is still an illusion. We’re unconscious, and only our brains are active.”
I only half understood his explanation. After staring blankly for a while, I said, “Isn’t that just a Ghost Wall?”
“Similar, but not the same.” Seventh Master shook his head again. “Unlike a Ghost Wall, a Ghost Domain is a space in which ghosts move. It has no physical existence and is formed entirely from a field.”
“After death, some ghosts endlessly repeat the scene of their death. Living people see them repeating it in the real world, while the ghosts themselves see the scenes from their lives. Those illusory scenes are the Ghost Domains they construct.”
I understood a little more now and summarized, “So a Ghost Domain only exists within a ghost’s consciousness. We’re inside it because our brain waves resonated at the same frequency as its field?”
Seventh Master froze briefly, then nodded. “That’s not entirely accurate, but it’s close enough.”
Our consciousness was trapped. In the real world, we were effectively in vegetative states. If we could not get out, Seventh Master and I would remain that way.
“Then how do we escape?” That was what concerned me most.
Seventh Master said, “There are two ways. First, someone in the real world can wake us. Second, we can use Qimen Dunjia to locate the Life Gate, then cast a spell there to break the Ghost Wall. That will let us leave.”
“However, this space is repeating events from a hundred years ago. If we want to resolve the current crisis, we must learn what truly happened back then. A century has passed, so how could we possibly investigate the truth now? Why not uncover it while we’re already a hundred years in the past?”
My eyes widened. His meaning could not have been clearer.
He had no intention of leaving yet. He planned to investigate the truth right here.
“Seventh Master, you really are stubborn. You’re already injured. If we disturb the ghost in this Ghost Domain, who’s going to fight it, you or me?”
“Nothing ventured, nothing gained.”
Seventh Master said gravely, “If we can’t uncover the truth and identify the murderous ghost, the two of us will fulfill that hexagram together. The danger is already unavoidable, so why not search for a way out from within it?”
Seventh Master was in charge of this case. Since he insisted, I naturally followed his lead.
But to uncover the truth here, we first had to organize our thoughts. The first question was who had killed everyone in Luo Mansion.
The second was which ghost had killed people afterward, and whether the two were one and the same.
I discussed every clue I had found with Seventh Master.
In the end, we narrowed our suspicions to four people.
They were the Seventh Concubine, the Ninth Concubine, Xiuzhu, and Master Luo.
