Chapter 137
Chapter 137
The text message from earlier had been sent from Song Xiaotian’s phone, but it hadn’t been sent by Song Xiaotian himself…
Old Zhao Seven’s brow furrowed as he spoke directly into the phone. “When did you pass out? How did it happen?”
Over the phone, Song Xiaotian said, “I found Su Qian’s home address at three in the afternoon. Then I went to the school restroom to take a leak. I had just finished pulling up my pants when I felt the temperature in the restroom go wrong. I didn’t even make it out of the door before I blacked out.”
“I just came to in the school’s storage room. I don’t know who moved me in there.”
After hearing Song Xiaotian’s description, we understood immediately.
Du Yuwei had knocked him out. Only a ghost like Du Yuwei could have done that.
As for who had moved him to the storage room, it was either Du Yuwei herself while possessing someone, or it was Anning.
The previous text message must have been sent by Anning using his phone.
I told Song Xiaotian to come over first. He caught the grim tone in my voice and hurriedly asked what had happened.
“Is Su Qian dead?”
“She wasn’t home. I don’t know if she’s dead or not.”
I said heavily, “But her parents are.”
Song Xiaotian was silent for a few seconds before sighing. “I’m coming over right now.”
After hanging up, Old Zhao Seven’s face remained dark. Suddenly, he reached out and began searching my pants pockets.
I didn’t know what he was looking for, but he quickly pulled a tuft of hair out of my back pocket.
“What is this?” he asked.
I was stunned. I quickly straightened the hair; it was very long, clearly a lock of a woman’s hair.
“I… I don’t know. How did that get in my pocket?”
“Which women have you been in contact with these past two days?”
“Anning…”
Aside from the female ghost, the only woman I had been in contact with was Anning.
“This is Anning’s hair.”
Old Zhao Seven’s fists clenched in anger. “Those two are twins. Twins have telepathy. This hair has been tampered with, and they must have taken some of your blood too. Du Yuwei knows everything you’re doing.”
I froze in place, feeling as if I’d been struck by a club.
So… Du Yuwei was using me.
She couldn’t find where Su Qian lived, but we could. Song Xiaotian could. That was why Song Xiaotian was knocked out the moment he found the address.
We had wanted to protect Su Qian, but instead, we had harmed her-and killed her parents.
“Couldn’t they find it themselves?” Meng Yifan asked.
“How would they? Only the school’s archives have the students’ home addresses,” Old Zhao Seven said. “Anning only has a primary school education; she doesn’t know how to use a computer. They had no way to look it up.”
“It’s my fault!”
Old Zhao Seven slapped his own forehead. “If I hadn’t suggested protecting Su Qian, her parents wouldn’t have died!”
I felt even worse. “It’s my fault. If I hadn’t tried to guess who her next victim would be, Song Xiaotian wouldn’t have gone looking, and they wouldn’t have known where Su Qian’s house was.”
Du Yuwei was using me. She was using me to kill people.
Both sisters were using me.
I understood them, and they understood me.
Su Qian’s parents had suffered an injustice even greater than Dou E’s!
“Stop blaming yourselves,”
Meng Yifan sighed. “Your intentions were good. Who could have imagined they’d plant hair in your pocket? Who could have known they would use your kindness to commit murder?”
Not long after, Song Xiaotian arrived.
Just as he got there, the police arrived as well.
Old Zhao Seven hadn’t closed the door to Su Qian’s house specifically so that someone would discover what had happened inside.
Someone must have seen it and called the police.
After learning what had transpired, Song Xiaotian’s expression turned ugly. “This is too cruel. Those two sisters have gone too far! To kill so many innocent people for revenge… what makes them any different from Du Ruhai?”
“The Seventh Master was right. No matter how pitiful Du Yuwei was, she isn’t fucking pitiful anymore!”
I didn’t speak. In truth, I knew Old Zhao Seven was right.
My mistake was being alive. My existence was a mistake. No matter what I did, or even if I did nothing at all, I was in the wrong.
“What about Su Qian?” Song Xiaotian asked.
I shook my head. “She wasn’t home. She should be fine. If something had already happened to her, Du Yuwei wouldn’t have come to her house.”
Song Xiaotian frowned. “Then let’s stop looking for her. She’s only safe if we don’t look. Right now, Du Yuwei only has her twin sister helping her. That Anning is just an ordinary person; she doesn’t have the means to investigate on her own.”
Meng Yifan said, “But even if Su Qian is okay, Du Yuwei will still kill people. And it’ll be indiscriminate… people are still going to die…”
After he spoke, we all fell silent.
Du Yuwei had completely lost herself to bloodlust. She might kill anyone except us. She would even kill Old Zhao Seven.
There was truly too much helplessness in this world.
Du Ruhai wouldn’t let Du Yuwei go, and he might even go after Anning.
To seek revenge and protect themselves, the two sisters felt they had to kill.
I wanted to stop Du Yuwei, but I couldn’t. I couldn’t help Old Zhao Seven harm her, yet I didn’t want to watch her hurt others.
Ultimately, I was useless. If I were useful, I would have just gone and killed Du Ruhai myself to end it all. That would have solved everything.
Old Zhao Seven gave me a knife, saying it could kill Du Yuwei.
“This blade has killed many on the battlefield; its baleful energy is heavy. My Master carved a Demon-Subduing Spell onto it. This knife has killed at least a dozen ghosts. I’ve carried it with me for nearly thirty years.”
Old Zhao Seven handed the knife to me and said, “You’re the only one who can get close to her. As for what to do, decide for yourself.”
With that, he walked away.
I stared at the knife, my mind a whirlwind of thoughts.
Runes were carved into the body of the blade-likely the Demon-Subduing Spell Old Zhao Seven had mentioned.
One look was enough to tell this was no ordinary object. It was heavy and cold. The moment I gripped it, a chill seeped into me as if it had just been taken out of a freezer.
This knife could kill Du Yuwei.
As long as Du Yuwei was dead, she couldn’t harm anyone else.
Did I really have to kill her…?
