Chapter 90
Chapter 90
The wise Lord Evil God had realized the truth.
Yun Jianyue lied with a perfectly straight face. “How can you call it stealing your fortune? In human society, the wife manages all the family’s assets. Haven’t you seen that while scrolling Douyin?”
Mo Chen thought back to some of the videos he had watched on Douyin, then nodded. “Douyin says our relationship is called a contract marriage, and we’ll get divorced eventually.”
Just what kind of ridiculous nonsense had this Evil God been watching on Douyin?
“Then haven’t you seen that in contract marriages like ours, the husband always has to compensate the wife?” Yun Jianyue asked.
Mo Chen fell into a damning silence.
Those Douyin videos did seem to mention compensation packages of five million or something like that.
But he didn’t have any human currency. Perhaps he could conjure some directly out of a bank?
Then Mo Chen’s thoughts finally caught up. His pitch-black eyes bored into Yun Jianyue. “I’m going to kill you once the Red Thread of Fate is severed. Why would I compensate you?”
“What? You still want to kill me after all this time? Oh, you naughty man~” Yun Jianyue coyly thumped her iron fist against Mo Chen’s chest.
As expected of an Evil God, Mo Chen did not feel any pain. If anything, he felt as though Yun Jianyue was taking advantage of him.
With a smile that did not reach his eyes, Mo Chen removed Yun Jianyue’s paw from his chest. “Stop taking liberties with me. And what exactly are you pretending for? You clearly want to kill me even more.”
When it came to wanting each other dead, neither of them had any room to criticize the other. They were exactly alike.
“Nonsense. See? I even hit you. Hitting is affection, and scolding is love. I love you very much right now, understand?” Yun Jianyue stubbornly refused to admit it.
As long as she did not admit she wanted Mo Chen dead, then she had never had such a thought!
The certain Show-Off King guarding the door frowned deeply.
So Yun Jianyue had insulted every man equally earlier because she loved all men equally?
An unprecedented sense of crisis swept over Si Wuming. He suddenly felt that Mo Chen was no longer the only person he wanted to kill.
Mo Chen had no desire to understand Yun Jianyue’s logic.
Yun Jianyue tossed Lin Tianjue’s phone back to him. “How did you contact the Envoy? Try calling him now.”
“What kind of Evil God’s Envoy uses a phone to communicate?” Lin Tianjue felt as though Yun Jianyue was joking with him.
“Then how do you usually contact him?”
“Through the Incense Summoning Ritual, of course!”
Lin Sicheng’s mouth moved faster than his brain.
Having obtained the answer she wanted, Yun Jianyue smiled brightly. “Then summon the Envoy here now.”
Yun Jianyue shot Mo Chen a look, and he conjured up incense sticks and candles.
Only after doing so did Mo Chen belatedly realize that he was truly becoming Yun Jianyue’s summoned beast. She had not even needed to say anything this time, and he was already doing her bidding!
The Four Lin Brothers looked at one another, but none of them dared to pick up the incense and candles laid before them.
Yun Jianyue rapped her knuckles against the table. “What are you waiting for? Don’t you know I’m throwing my husband’s weight around now? If you don’t summon the Envoy, my husband might kill all of you.”
Mo Chen: “…”
He might not have much of a reputation to ruin, but he was still extremely annoyed.
Si Wuming: “…”
Why did she keep calling Mo Chen her husband? When would that Red Thread of Fate finally break? Besides, it wasn’t as though he couldn’t handle things like murder and arson himself.
What kind of person openly announced that they were throwing someone else’s weight around? The Four Lin Brothers were nearly driven mad by Yun Jianyue.
But under the Evil God’s oppressive might, Lin Tianjue had no choice but to do as Yun Jianyue said.
Once the incense and candles were lit, Lin Tianjue knelt devoutly on the floor and began chanting under his breath.
Before long, the greenish smoke curling from the burning incense gradually thinned. In the end, it vanished completely, and the incense and candles went out with it.
The instant the incense and candles went out, an eerie wind swept through the room, and a black-robed figure appeared.
The timing of the man’s arrival couldn’t have been worse. He materialized directly in front of Mo Chen.
The room fell into an awkward, deathly silence.
“Oh, look, honey. Your envoy is here!” Yun Jianyue said, gleefully stirring the pot.
The envoy frantically tried to flee, but Mo Chen was far too fast. The Evil God’s Power slammed him flat against the floor in an instant.
The eerie wind also blew back the black hood that had concealed the envoy’s face, revealing an ordinary-looking man whom Yun Jianyue unexpectedly recognized.
“Uncle Luo?”
Mo Chen’s brow furrowed deeply. “You know him?”
Yun Jianyue’s head buzzed as countless pieces abruptly fell into place.
The man’s name was Luo Tiancheng. He was one of her younger cousin’s godfathers.
Her cousin had been sickly ever since she was born. Following an old folk belief, Yun Jianyue’s aunt had found her several godparents, and only then had her health gradually improved.
Luo Tiancheng was one of those godfathers.
When Yun Jianyue’s house had caught fire years ago, Luo Tiancheng had been among those who rushed in to help.
That was why Yun Jianyue had always been deeply grateful to him. Whenever her cousin visited Luo Tiancheng’s home during the holidays, Yun Jianyue would always tag along if she was back in their hometown.
“Uncle Luo, who made you an envoy? How long have you been an Evil God’s Envoy? Who is behind you?” Yun Jianyue’s head spun. Her limbs were ice-cold, and all the strength seemed to drain from her body.
For the first time, she truly felt the invisible net closing around her.
Luo Tiancheng stared deeply at Yun Jianyue. “Kill me.”
“How can you say that so easily? Dying might be simple, but what about Auntie Cheng? What about Chuchu? What about your parents, who suffer from dementia?” Yun Jianyue’s eyes reddened. She couldn’t understand how Luo Tiancheng could say such a thing.
“It doesn’t matter. I placed a curse on them. When I die, they’ll die with me.” Luo Tiancheng showed no grief whatsoever. If anything, he seemed to think it was a good thing.
Yun Jianyue stared at him in disbelief. “Do you even realize what you’re saying? What you’ve done?”
They were his wife, his own daughter, and his own flesh and blood!
Luo Tiancheng sneered. “This world is filthy and vile. There’s no point in living in it. Instead of leaving my family to suffer after I die, it’d be better for all of us to reunite in the afterlife. By the time we’re reborn, all the filth and evil in this world will have been purged. Then we’ll have a bright world with no darkness!”
“So the person behind you really does intend to destroy the world.” Yun Jianyue drew a deep breath, swaying slightly on her feet.
She couldn’t understand how Uncle Luo, the man who had always treated everyone kindly and perpetually wore a warm smile, could have become like this.
Worse, he had already been this way ten years ago, perhaps even earlier.
Realizing he had let something slip, Luo Tiancheng clamped his mouth shut. This girl was far too sharp. The more he said, the more he would reveal.
Yun Jianyue walked over and crouched in front of him. “Uncle Luo, I have two last questions. When you went into the fire back then, you were trying to confirm whether my mom was dead. You weren’t really trying to save her, were you?”
Luo Tiancheng turned his gaze away, refusing to look at her, but Yun Jianyue already had her answer.
Suppressing the fury in her heart, she asked, “And what happened to my cousin, your goddaughter, when she had that paranormal encounter last time? You did that too, didn’t you? You wanted to find out how deeply I’d gotten involved with gods, ghosts, and the supernatural, right?”
