“If I kill you, someone will save my wife.” Chu Wenxu’s pupils gradually turned into vertical slits, while snake scales surfaced across his cheeks. “I’m sorry, but after you die, I’ll find a Taoist priest to help you pass on to the next life.”
Yun Jianyue instinctively reached into her backpack for her chainsaw, only to grab empty air.
What the hell? Where was her chainsaw?
No, wait. Where was her bag?!
Seeing her movement, Chu Wenxu tugged at the corner of his mouth. “I left your bag at the barbecue restaurant.”
“So you know my weapon is a chainsaw now, Brother-in-law. Losing my weapon is a little troublesome.” Despite saying that, Yun Jianyue wasn’t panicking in the slightest. She merely looked at Chu Wenxu with a beaming smile. “Brother-in-law, I advise you not to lay a hand on me.”
Chu Wenxu said, “Neither you nor your ghost friend is a match for me.”
“Brother-in-law, you probably don’t know this, but I’m married too. My husband is terrifying. Much more terrifying than you.”
What husband? Chu Wenxu furrowed his brows, but he had no intention of wasting any more time arguing with Yun Jianyue.
His demonic power transformed into a sharp blade, its surface shimmering with a ghostly blue light.
The blade was coated with snake venom!
When Chu Wenxu started walking toward Yun Jianyue with the blade in hand, she let out a soft sigh.
“All right. Since you’ve made up your mind, I have no choice but to shamelessly call in reinforcements.”
Yun Jianyue threw back her head and shouted, “Husband, help! A monster is trying to kill me! If I die, you won’t survive either!”
Her shout was so thunderous that a nearby resident opened a window and yelled in their direction as well.
“Does anyone plan on sleeping tonight?! If you’re going crazy, go somewhere else!”
Seeing that they had attracted attention, Chu Wenxu’s expression turned cold. He lunged at Yun Jianyue with lightning speed.
Yun Jianyue took off running, calling for help as she went. “Mo Chen, if you don’t get here right now, we’re both going down together!”
Lu Changxue shrieked from inside the jade pendant, “Help! If you die, he definitely won’t spare me either! Run faster, Darling!”
“I’m running as hard as I can! I’m five foot four, and he’s six foot two! How could I possibly outrun him?!”
She was running fast, but Chu Wenxu was even faster.
Just as Chu Wenxu was about to catch Yun Jianyue, a powerful surge of Evil God’s Power tore space apart. A handsome man in black robes stepped through the spatial rift, and with nothing more than a casual wave of his hand, sent Chu Wenxu flying and crashing to the ground.
The moment she saw Mo Chen appear, Yun Jianyue slammed on the brakes, spun around, planted her hands on her hips, and looked smugly at Chu Wenxu on the ground.
“I told you I could call in reinforcements. Why didn’t you believe me, Brother-in-law?”
By now, snake scales covered nearly all of Chu Wenxu’s face. His usual gentle air had vanished without a trace, replaced by dense demonic energy and a terrifying appearance.
He rose to his feet and fixed his gaze on Mo Chen, his eyes icy cold. “The Evil God?”
Mo Chen looked at the smug Yun Jianyue speechlessly. “You need to call me over for a thousand-year-old snake demon? Where’s your chainsaw?”
“I lost it while getting late-night snacks.” Yun Jianyue was utterly honest.
“Idiot.” After insulting Yun Jianyue, Mo Chen turned to Chu Wenxu and narrowed his eyes dangerously. “If you want to touch this woman, you should ask whether I agree first.”
Yun Jianyue excitedly clapped her hands. “Husband, you look so cool like this! You look exactly like a domineering CEO, you know? A domineering CEO! Keep it up. Act like you’re madly in love with me! Scare him to death! Let him see that he isn’t the only lovesick man in the world!”
Mo Chen: …When will this Red Thread of Fate finally break? The moment it does, Yun Jianyue will be the first person I cut down!
Chu Wenxu: …If I’d known this would happen, I would’ve stopped wasting time and just stabbed her to death.
Unable to stand Yun Jianyue’s pathetic display, Lu Changxue could not resist complaining. “We’re supposed to be following the strong-female-lead route. Fine, you called for help, but why are you acting like this?!”
“Being able to call in reinforcements is a skill too.” Yun Jianyue sounded completely justified despite having no justification whatsoever.
Next time, she would ask Si Wuming for a Teleportation Talisman. She could just toss it onto the ground, let it pop, and teleport a Show-Off King over out of thin air!
Preferably, the Show-Off King would be teleported over while he was taking a bath, and then she could go slurp, slurp…
Yun Jianyue hurriedly cut off her own train of thought. If she kept imagining things, she would have to run twelve miles tonight to work off the excess energy!

Curious, Yun Jianyue went over and poked Chu Wenxu’s motionless true form with a finger. “Brother-in-law, are you still alive? Make a sound if you are.”
Lu Changxue was feeling bolder now too. She floated out of the jade pendant and circled around Chu Wenxu’s true form, inspecting it.
“You know, Brother-in-law’s true form is… kind of kawaii.”
The tiny black snake was curled into a ball, with two small horns on its head.
Mo Chen let out a contemptuous laugh. “He has some ability, but not much.”
The horns on the black snake’s head were a sign that it was on the path to becoming a dragon. An ordinary snake demon generally needed around three thousand years of cultivation to grow a pair of horns like these. Yet Chu Wenxu had managed to grow dragon horns after only a thousand years of cultivation, proving that his talent was extraordinary.
Only someone as powerful as Mo Chen could say, with such confidence, “You’ve got some skill, but not much.”
Chu Wenxu remained completely motionless. Yun Jianyue frowned. “Husband, you didn’t kill him, did you?”
“Did I tell you my name just so you could hear it?” Mo Chen felt an inexplicable ache in his teeth whenever he heard Yun Jianyue call him “husband.”
Yun Jianyue readily complied. “Mo Chen, husband, you didn’t kill him, did you?”
The veins at the Evil God’s temples bulged. Just as he was about to say the four words “We’ll both perish,” Yun Jianyue politely changed how she addressed him again.
“Mo Chen, please answer my question.”
Mo Chen gritted his teeth. “I didn’t kill him. I placed a restriction on him. He can’t use his demonic power.”
A snake that couldn’t use its demonic power, in winter weather eight degrees below zero, could only be forced into hibernation and turn into a frozen snake popsicle.
Upon hearing this, Yun Jianyue grabbed Chu Wenxu and hoisted him over her shoulders. The snake’s icy body temperature made her hunch her neck.
“Let’s go, let’s go! We need to get back quickly and let Sister Ruyan see her husband’s true form. She’s definitely never seen it before!”
Mo Chen grabbed Yun Jianyue just as she was about to run. His teeth were practically cracking from how hard he was clenching them. “So you summoned me over such a trivial matter?”
Yun Jianyue let out an indignant huff and lectured Mo Chen with righteous conviction. “A husband and wife are one. What’s mine is yours. I was almost killed by a snake demon. How can that count as a trivial matter?”
“I was this close to catching Fake Zhang Qixi.” Mo Chen genuinely wanted to strangle Yun Jianyue. Could this woman be working with Fake Zhang Qixi?
“Holy crap, you were chasing Fake Zhang Qixi? Keep chasing her. Next time I summon Si Wuming, I absolutely won’t interrupt you!” Yun Jianyue felt a little regretful, too. If she’d known Mo Chen was chasing the fake, she wouldn’t have summoned him.

Wait. Yun Jianyue suddenly realized something.
“What are the odds? Just when you were about to catch Fake Zhang Qixi, my brother-in-law was about to kill me.”
Yun Jianyue tugged at the snake’s stiff tail and suddenly let out a soft laugh. “Well, there we have it. We got played again.”
Mo Chen realized it, too, and a murderous glint flashed in his eyes.
In all his thousands of years of life, this was the first time he’d been toyed with so thoroughly by something!
Seeing his expression, Yun Jianyue patted him on the shoulder and kindly offered some consolation. “Look on the bright side. Maybe you thought you were about to catch Fake Zhang Qixi, but in reality, she was just leading you around by the nose.”
Mo Chen’s fists clenched with a series of sharp cracks. “That mouth of yours. Sooner or later, I’m going to sew it shut.”
In the end, Mo Chen followed Yun Jianyue to Zhou Ruyan’s home.
The house was brightly lit. Zhou Ruyan sat on the sofa with a dark expression, while Zhou Benxin crouched on the floor with his hands clasped over his head.
“How could you let your brother-in-law stay outside alone with Yueyue?!”
Zhou Ruyan was about to explode from anger at her stupid little brother.
Zhou Benxin looked up with an aggrieved expression. “My brother-in-law likes you so much. He wouldn’t be tempted by Senior’s beauty.”
“Is that what I’m talking about?!” Zhou Ruyan became so agitated that her stomach began cramping painfully. She clutched her belly, her face contorted in pain.
Zhou Benxin hurried over to check on her. “Sis, are you all right? Don’t let yourself harm the baby because of me. I’ve always been stupid, haven’t I?!”
That only made Zhou Ruyan even angrier.
The moment Yun Jianyue opened the door, she saw Zhou Benxin had angered Zhou Ruyan into a stomachache. She rushed forward and shoved Zhou Benxin aside.
“Sister, take a deep breath.” As she spoke, Yun Jianyue gripped Zhou Ruyan’s wrist and sensed her vital essence gathering toward her uterus.
The Serpent Fetus was accelerating its absorption of Zhou Ruyan’s life force!
Yun Jianyue immediately ordered Mo Chen, “Come save her!”
Mo Chen said, “I’m the Evil God, not a benevolent god!”
What kind of Evil God went around saving people instead of killing them? Where was the logic in that?
“What are you waiting for? Hurry up!”
Mo Chen walked over to Zhou Ruyan with a dark expression. He touched a fingertip to the center of her brow, and a wisp of the Evil God’s Power seeped into her body.
In an instant, the Serpent Fetus absorbed the Evil God’s Power and, satisfied, stopped draining Zhou Ruyan’s life force.
At that moment, Zhou Benxin had a repeat performance. He crouched on the floor with both hands over his head, silently praying that Mo Chen couldn’t see him.
Being killed twice in a row by Mo Chen on Chongguang Mountain had given him nightmares to this day, for crying out loud!
Once Zhou Ruyan had calmed down, her sharp eyes caught sight of the black snake hanging around Yun Jianyue’s neck.
Her expression changed drastically. Forgetting all propriety, she reached out and snatched the black snake into her arms, eyeing Yun Jianyue and Mo Chen warily. “Don’t hurt him. He has never killed anyone!”
“Sis? Senior just saved you!” Zhou Benxin’s worldview began wavering again. On one side were his biological sister and brother-in-law; on the other were his senior and her husband. On one side was the bond of blood; on the other was the debt of a saved life.
Zhou Ruyan hugged the black snake even more tightly, her tone softening a little. “I know you just saved me. I know I seem ungrateful right now. But no matter what, I won’t let you hurt him!”
Mo Chen clicked his tongue and muttered, “Humans are all idiots.”
Yun Jianyue smacked Mo Chen across the face. “I suggest you stop making sweeping generalizations, or I’ll take it personally.”
