Chapter 73
Chapter 73
Brother Wolf waved a hand carelessly. “When it comes to making money, you can’t judge a company by appearances. As long as it makes you money, that’s all that matters. Right, Xiao Yun?”
“As expected of Brother Wolf! You’re so right! From now on, I’ll be sure to follow Brother Wolf and make lots and lots of money!” Yun Jianyue stomped her foot bashfully.
Brother Wolf looked at Lu Changxue in confusion. “Xiao Lu, why are you shaking?”
Lu Changxue was trembling from head to toe as she fought the urge to throw up. Covering her mouth, she replied in a muffled voice, “It’s nothing, Brother Wolf. I’m just having a little trouble adjusting to the climate.”
“Is Southeast Asia’s climate really that different from back home?” Brother Wolf grew even more puzzled. He thought about it for a moment, couldn’t make sense of it, and gave up. Then he led them into a small bungalow.
The unassuming bungalow concealed an entirely different world inside.
A group of numb-faced young women sat in front of computers, mechanically making call after call. Their voices filled the entire room.
“Hello, this is the XX Police Department. Am I speaking to Zhang XX? Our records show that your account was used to make an overseas purchase last month…”
“We suspect you of colluding with an overseas criminal organization to launder money…”
“Brother Wang, I’m telling you, that fund is selling incredibly well. If you buy in now, your money will more than triple in three days…”
Yun Jianyue glanced at the women making calls. Some of them had clearly visible bruises on their bodies.
Brother Wolf noticed where she was looking and scoffed. “You’re a real talent, Xiao Yun. You won’t be doing low-level work like them.”
With that, Brother Wolf led the two humans and one ghost into a partitioned office at the very back of the bungalow.
The office was thick with cigarette smoke. A man in a floral shirt sat playing a game with a cigarette dangling from his lips. Hearing the door open, he looked up.
His gaze landed on Yun Jianyue, and a flash of amazement crossed his eyes. His lips curled with interest, as if he had just spotted prey.
“Brother Dao, these are the three new talents I recruited: Si Tiezhu, Yun Cuihua, and Lu Erfang.” Brother Wolf pointed at Si Wuming. “Xiao Si here is seriously impressive. He’s got a master’s degree in finance from Tsinghua.”
At that, Brother Dao put down his phone and walked over to inspect Si Wuming. He patted him on the shoulder. “Not bad, Xiao Si. Work hard for Brother Dao, and earning a million a month won’t be a dream.”
“What about me, Brother Dao? I want to make a million a month too!” Yun Jianyue pulled Si Wuming aside and sidled up to Brother Dao, drawing out every word in an absurdly sugary voice.
Yet Brother Dao thoroughly enjoyed her affected cutesy tone. With ill intent, he pulled Yun Jianyue into his arms, wrapped an arm around her shoulders, and rubbed them a few times. “You’re Xiao Yun, right? Work for Brother Dao, and I promise you won’t lose out.”
As far as Brother Dao was concerned, a beautiful woman like Yun Jianyue, all curves and no brains, with nothing but money on her mind, would be the easiest kind to control and exploit for profit.
At the sight of Brother Dao’s hand resting on Yun Jianyue’s shoulder, Si Wuming’s eyes darkened.
The next instant, Yun Jianyue bashfully slammed an iron fist into Brother Dao’s chest and let out a booming, girlish giggle. “You’re so good to me, Brother Dao!”
The punch sent Brother Dao staggering back two steps as his vision went black.
Fortunately, he caught himself against the edge of the desk. Otherwise, he would have crashed straight to the floor.
“How are you so strong, Xiao Yun?” Brother Dao exclaimed in shock as a thought flashed through his mind.
Could Yun Cuihua be an undercover agent sent by the police? What normal young woman had that much strength in her hands?
But a moment later, he decided it was impossible.
Every undercover agent the police had sent before had been terrified of exposing themselves. Even if they possessed supernatural abilities, they always pretended to be ordinary people.
If Yun Cuihua were undercover, she should have put on an act too. She never would have openly shown how strong she was.
Yun Jianyue covered her face and burst into simpering sobs. “Brother Dao, you’re so mean~ How could you say a delicate girl like me is strong~ You’re awful~”
Lu Changxue finally couldn’t take it anymore. She rushed over to the trash can, clung to it, and began dry-heaving violently.
“Ugh… Ugh…”
Brother Dao stared at Lu Changxue in bewildered shock, then turned to Brother Wolf. “Ah Lang, what’s going on?”
Brother Wolf scratched his head awkwardly. “She’s having trouble adjusting to the new environment. She’s been throwing up the whole way here.”
Brother Dao was speechless.
Damn it. He couldn’t lure someone here to run scams, fail to squeeze a single cent of value out of her, and then have to pay for her medical treatment, could he?
Maybe he should just harvest her organs and sell them. Or turn her into a human exhibit?
Forget it. Lu Erfang might not be as pretty as Yun Cuihua, but she was still a cute little beauty. She would definitely make them plenty of money in the future.
Once Lu Erfang was no longer useful, he could turn her into a human exhibit. Or just send her straight to an illegal brothel. That would bring in some money too.
“Fine. Get Xiao Lu some medicine later. For now, take Xiao Lu to Ah Hong and have Ah Hong put her to work,” Brother Dao ordered.
Brother Wolf glanced at Yun Jianyue. “Isn’t Xiao Yun going with Sister Hong?”
Sister Hong was mainly in charge of erotic livestreams, and all the young women under her had at least passable looks. The girls assigned to telephone scams were the plain ones.
Brother Dao glared at Brother Wolf in annoyance. “Xiao Yun has another job.”
Realizing he’d spoken out of turn, Brother Wolf hurriedly led Lu Changxue away.
Lu Changxue remained inseparable from the trash can even as she left, so in the end, Brother Wolf carried both the ghost and the trash can out together.
That left only Brother Dao, Yun Jianyue, and Si Wuming in the room.
Brother Dao called a man named Zhuo Hai. Zhuo Hai soon arrived and took Si Wuming away as well.
“Big Brother Dao~ They all have jobs now, so what am I supposed to do? I want to make lots of money too~”
Yun Jianyue’s bashful iron fist came swinging down again. Brother Dao nimbly dodged it with a quick sidestep.
“Xiao Yun, I know you want to act cute with me, but stop hitting me.” Brother Dao sat down and gestured for Yun Jianyue to sit on his lap.
He had an ulterior motive. He wanted to test whether Yun Jianyue was truly an easy woman to control.
If Yun Jianyue gave herself away, he would immediately call someone in to tie her up. If she really sat on his lap, then he could have some fun with her first.
Without the slightest hesitation, Yun Jianyue plopped herself down on him and happily reached for Brother Dao’s neck, ready to cuddle up and act spoiled. “Big Brother Da-”
Before she could finish, Brother Dao shoved Yun Jianyue away, clutched his thigh, and doubled over in agony.
“What’s wrong, Big Brother~ Don’t scare me like that~” Yun Jianyue pretended to panic and hurried over to help him.
“Stay back! I’m begging you!” Tears streamed down Brother Dao’s face from the pain. He was starting to wonder if his leg was broken.
What kind of woman dropped onto someone’s lap like a cannonball?
Was Yun Cuihua completely useless aside from that pretty face of hers?!
Gritting his teeth, Brother Dao called Sister Hong. “Come get her. Right now. Immediately!”
He’d let Sister Hong put her on livestreams after all. Or she could run scams, run gambling scams-anything would do, as long as she never appeared in front of him again!
He was afraid Yun Cuihua would stab him to death before the police ever caught him!
