Sister Hong was a shapely woman with a head of curly hair. She looked to be in her thirties and still retained plenty of charm.
When she entered Brother Dao’s office, a long, slender cigarette was pinched between her fingers.
Even through the curling smoke, one could tell she must have been a stunning beauty in her youth.
“I’ll take her from here, Brother Dao.”
After greeting Brother Dao, Sister Hong led Yun Jianyue away.
Yun Jianyue stared at Sister Hong the entire way. After smoking half her cigarette, Sister Hong finally couldn’t take it anymore. “What are you staring at me for, little girl?”
Yun Jianyue asked, “Sis, is that a tea cigarette?”
Tea cigarettes were rolled from leftover tea leaves and contained neither tar nor nicotine.
Sister Hong casually tossed the cigarette onto the ground and crushed it beneath her foot. “I’m quitting smoking. And talk normally. I’m not like those pathetic men. That act won’t work on me.”
“But this is how I always talk~” Yun Jianyue persisted in using her cloyingly sweet voice.
Sister Hong rolled her eyes and couldn’t be bothered with her anymore.
She led Yun Jianyue into a small room with a mirror. It was actually one-way glass, allowing them to see everything happening on the other side.
Yun Jianyue smacked her lips. Sister Hong thought she was about to get scared, but instead, she watched with great enthusiasm, clearly savoring the show.
Sister Hong gave her a startled look. “Looks like you’ve been with a man before. Here I was thinking you needed to learn the ropes.”
“You might not believe me, but I’m still a virgin.” Yun Jianyue didn’t even take her eyes off the scene behind the glass.
Sister Hong was speechless.
What kind of virgin could watch something like this without the slightest hint of embarrassment? She looked like she practically wanted to wave a flag and cheer them on!
Sister Hong sat down in a chair, lit another cigarette, and blew a smoke ring. “Pay close attention to the lines they use during the livestream. Tomorrow, I’ll arrange two experienced men for you. I’ll try to make it as easy on you as possible.”
“Only two? She’s got two, and I’m way better than her. I should get at least three.” Yun Jianyue’s damned competitive streak had kicked in.
Once again, Sister Hong was rendered speechless.
Where had they found this girl? Was she really a virgin? If Sister Hong herself was a virgin, there was no way this girl could be one!
Did this girl seriously not have a shred of shame?
For the first time in ten years, Sister Hong asked a question she shouldn’t have. “Do you even know what kind of place this is? Do you know what we do here?”
Yun Jianyue replied with an honest expression, “Of course. You’re a criminal organization. Brother Dao just said your business covers half the criminal code.”
Pornography, gambling, drugs, fraud, human trafficking, organ trafficking, loan-sharking… They offered the full package.
“You know?” An unavoidable thought surfaced in Sister Hong’s mind.
Was this girl an undercover agent?
No, that couldn’t be right. Who went undercover like this? Had no one taught her to conceal her identity and avoid standing out? Because she was standing out far too much!
Besides, there was no need to announce that their crimes covered half the criminal code! Why did she sound so proud of it? Did she think that half of the criminal code was enough to sentence every last one of them to death?!
Yun Jianyue continued, “But Brother Dao said I’d make money as long as I behaved. As long as it pays, a job’s a job.”
Sister Hong took a deep drag, then another. She smoked the entire cigarette down to the filter before slowly saying, “If I’d had your attitude back then, I wouldn’t have suffered for so many years.”
“What happened to you back then, Sister Hong?” Yun Jianyue asked curiously.
“Don’t pry into things you shouldn’t,” Sister Hong snapped.
Yun Jianyue gave an obedient “Oh,” then asked with a grin, “What about my best friend? Isn’t she going to watch the live action with me?”
At the mention of Lu Changxue, Sister Hong’s expression grew even stranger.
The other new girl was hugging a trash can and vomiting her guts out while staring avidly at the livestream in the other room. She even kept muttering to herself, “This is what she deserves to see for being good all her life,” “That position is freaking amazing,” and “Holy shit, not bad!”
It seemed… neither of the two newly recruited girls was quite right in the head.
“You two will train separately.” Sister Hong’s expression was stern. She could already imagine what would happen if she put them in the same room. They would probably grab a plate of sunflower seeds and start critiquing the performance!
Yun Jianyue nodded and obediently focused on studying, her eyes fixed on the scene beyond the mirror.
Sister Hong apparently had other matters to attend to and left the small room.
Shortly before seven, Sister Hong returned with Lu Changxue to fetch Yun Jianyue.
“Let’s go. I’ll take you to dinner,” Sister Hong said. “I’m only showing you the way this once, so remember it. You get half an hour each for lunch and dinner. Everyone eats in shifts so the work never stops.”
“What happens if we take more than half an hour?” Yun Jianyue asked.
Sister Hong gave her a faint, unreadable smile. “What do you think? You’ll be taught a little lesson, that’s all.”
She found these two new girls rather interesting. She had watched them through the surveillance cameras, and they really had sat there obediently watching for the entire afternoon. Yun Cuifang had at least gone to the bathroom once, but Lu Erfang had not even done that, nor had she taken a single sip of water!
These two girls had better know their place. That way, they might be spared some physical suffering.
Yun Jianyue nodded meekly. “Sister Hong, did those people take drugs or something? They’ve been going at it for ages and are still hard.”
Sister Hong did not mind telling them how things worked in advance. “Everyone in this line of work has to take drugs. Once the drugs ruin their bodies, they’re sent off to do other jobs and replaced with newcomers.”
“Wouldn’t that leave them unable to ever have children?” Lu Changxue exclaimed.
Sister Hong merely gave a noncommittal chuckle, with more than a trace of schadenfreude in it.
Just then, two beautiful but utterly exhausted girls approached together and greeted Sister Hong obediently.
Sister Hong introduced them. The girl with long, straight black hair was Lulu, while the girl with curly brown hair was An’an. Both had already been working here for six months.
“Nice to meet you.” Yun Jianyue held out a hand, intending to shake theirs.
Neither Lulu nor An’an responded. Instead, they quickly hid their hands behind their backs.
As they did, Yun Jianyue caught sight of several needle marks on the backs of their hands.
Sister Hong led them to the cafeteria. It was packed with people, easily more than a thousand at a glance.
But not everyone had a seat at a table. The plain-looking girls and some timid, cowering men were squatting in corners with bowls in their hands. Their food was pitifully meager, without a scrap of meat in sight. There were even stones clearly visible in the rice.
All of them bore visible injuries to some degree.
The girls seated at the regular dining tables were all attractive. Some worked as card dealers, while others were livestream performers. The men seated there were dressed like ordinary men, but they were clearly treated much better. Their meals included both meat and vegetables, and most of them had no visible injuries.
Yun Jianyue and Lu Changxue were also allowed to eat at a table. While Yun Jianyue was getting her food, she noticed a separate section furnished with individual round tables. Brother Dao, Brother Wolf, and the others were seated at one of them.
And eating at that same round table was Si Wuming.
