Chapter 4
Chapter 4
Once Fang Lin’an figured out how the ghost was connected to Wang Hui, he sucked in a sharp breath.
No wonder the Vengeful Ghost in Red harbored such overwhelming resentment. Her own son had murdered her! If the resentment of an ordinary person killed by a stranger measured one hundred, then a mother murdered by her own son would have to measure at least ten thousand!
But even that did not fully explain it. Parents murdered by their own children might not be common, but they were hardly unheard of. So why had Wang Hui’s mother, of all people, become an S-rank vengeful ghost?
Fang Lin’an bit his finger and formed a hand seal with both hands. “With my power, I respectfully call upon the divine. Heavenly Eye, open!”
A faint golden light flashed, and Fang Lin’an’s eyes suddenly became crystal clear. He looked at the Vengeful Ghost in Red and, amid the dense layers of black resentment, spotted a wisp of bloodred mist.
That was… Evil God’s Power!
This ghost was connected to the Evil God!
“What are you doing?” The Vengeful Ghost in Red noticed Fang Lin’an’s actions, her vicious expression fully exposed. “So you’re a Daoist priest. Since you’ve barged in here, none of you will be leaving today!”
The Female Ghost in Red let out a piercing shriek. Fang Lin’an coughed up a mouthful of blood as all the vitality drained from his body in an instant. He hurriedly pulled out several talismans and slapped them onto himself, shouting to Yun Jianyue as he did so.
“She’s draining our life force! Run!”
Lu Changxue was plastered against the wall, her entire ghostly form trembling. The paltry resentment she possessed was nothing compared to that of the Female Ghost in Red. Worse still, the ghostly energy within her was being sucked away beyond her control.
If it was all drained, she would be completely and utterly dead!
“Darling, run! This old hag is way too strong. I’ll hold her off, so get out of here while you can.” Lu Changxue gritted her teeth. She was already a ghost anyway. Even if she had to die a second time, she could not let her best friend die.
Once again, Lu Changxue launched herself like a tiny cannonball. This time, however, the Vengeful Ghost in Red raised a hand and caught her by the head.
With a sharp crack, the Vengeful Ghost in Red ripped Lu Changxue’s head clean off and tossed it onto the floor.
The Vengeful Ghost in Red snorted as if to say, “That’s it?”
Lu Changxue’s body scrambled around frantically, trying to retrieve its head. “Ah! My head fell off again!”
Smack!
Another crisp slap rang out.
Yun Jianyue clenched her teeth so hard they nearly cracked. “You fucking… Do you have any idea how long it took me to sew her head back on? And you just ripped it off again?”
“Hitting her is only going to make her angrier! Run!” Fang Lin’an shouted, only to cough up another mouthful of blood. His talismans could not fully withstand the Female Ghost in Red’s all-out assault.
After being slapped twice in a row, the Vengeful Ghost in Red went completely berserk. She raised a hand to strike back, but just as she swung it, the roar of a chainsaw filled the room.
A moment later, the Female Ghost in Red’s forearm dropped to the floor with a thud.
Lu Changxue had only just managed to jam her head back onto her neck. When she turned around, she saw Yun Jianyue holding a chainsaw, having just hacked off the Vengeful Ghost in Red’s arm.
“Where the hell did you get a chainsaw?!” Lu Changxue shrieked, on the verge of a breakdown. “I’m seriously going to call the police on you, you know that?!”
Yun Jianyue hefted the chainsaw, flashed Lu Changxue a sweet smile full of gleaming white teeth, and gave her a thumbs-up. “Wang Hui hid it under the bed. It’s probably the chainsaw he used to dismember you. Works surprisingly well.”
Lu Changxue: ?
Fang Lin’an: ?
Before Fang Lin’an and Lu Changxue could react, Yun Jianyue swung the roaring chainsaw and lopped off the Vengeful Ghost in Red’s head.
Then came her other arm, lower leg, thigh, and torso…
In just a few short minutes, Yun Jianyue had dismembered the Female Ghost in Red, leaving her in pieces.
The severed limbs lay scattered across the floor, writhing incessantly. Yun Jianyue planted her hands on her hips and looked down at them with a contemptuous spit. “That’s what you get for destroying the fruits of my labor. You really deserve to die.”
With the Vengeful Ghost in Red dismembered, Fang Lin’an finally regained some color in his face.
“She’s an S-rank vengeful ghost. She can regenerate her body. Grab that scumbag and run before she puts herself back together.” Fang Lin’an staggered to his feet and moved to carry Wang Hui.
Lu Changxue darted in front of him. “You still want to save him?”
“The law will punish him for murder. You haven’t taken a human life yet, but if you get blood on your hands, the only thing waiting for you is complete annihilation!” Fang Lin’an could tell that Lu Changxue wasn’t an irredeemably evil ghost, so he tried to reason with her.
“What are you two arguing about? Run!” Yun Jianyue grabbed Lu Changxue by the arm and bolted outside. “She’s putting herself back together, and she’s fast! The chainsaw’s out of power. I can’t chop her up a second time.”
Fang Lin’an hurriedly hoisted Wang Hui onto his back and ran after them.
They moved quickly, making it downstairs in the blink of an eye.
Just then, black liquid gushed out of Room 404 and surged ahead of Yun Jianyue’s group at a speed that defied the laws of physics.
The black liquid rose from the ground, forming a translucent gray-black membrane. It spread over a vast area, enclosing half the residential complex.
“It’s a Ghost Domain!” Fang Lin’an’s heart clenched with anxiety. If the Vengeful Ghost in Red trapped them inside her Ghost Domain, they would be completely at her mercy.
The Ghost Domain rapidly closed into a dome. Yun Jianyue kicked the membrane twice, but it didn’t budge in the slightest.
Unless they suddenly learned how to fly, there was no way they could escape.
The Ghost Domain was moments away from sealing shut overhead and becoming complete.
A helicopter came racing toward them from the distance. As it reached the last remaining opening, a slender figure leaped out.
The man wore a gray T-shirt and black pants. Gravity and the rushing wind swept back every strand of his ink-black hair, revealing features so exquisite beneath the moonlight that they seemed sculpted by a god.
His expression remained perfectly impassive. In his hand was a razor-sharp Tang saber gleaming with cold light.
Only a fist-sized gap remained at the top of the Ghost Domain. The saber plunged precisely into it.
Gripping the hilt with one hand, the man wrenched the blade downward. Through sheer brute force, he tore open the supposedly indestructible Ghost Domain!
Crack.
With a sound like shattering glass, the entire Ghost Domain collapsed and broke apart.
The moment Fang Lin’an recognized the newcomer, he rushed forward with a choked cry. “Junior Martial Uncle!”
The man shifted slightly to the side, effortlessly evading Fang Lin’an’s enthusiastic bear hug.
Lu Changxue stood rooted to the spot, drool unconsciously trickling from the corner of her mouth. “Darling… H-Hot guy.”
“Have some dignity.” As Yun Jianyue spoke, she wiped the drool from the corner of her own mouth and muttered, “Okay, he is pretty damn handsome. After an entrance like that, I’m willing to crown him the Ultimate Show-Off.”
Fang Lin’an was a little hurt that his hug had been dodged, but there was no time to dwell on it. He hurriedly told his Junior Martial Uncle everything that had happened.
After hearing Fang Lin’an’s account, the man gave only three words before turning toward the floor saturated with resentment.
“I understand now.”
Lu Changxue zipped over to Fang Lin’an like an apparition. Staring after the man’s retreating back, she asked eagerly, “What’s his name? Is he seeing anyone? I think he might just barely be worthy of my Darling!”
