Chapter 85
Chapter 85
City A Paranormal Bureau.
Cai Zeyu and the Evil God stared at each other.
His voice trembled as he asked, “My Lord, what is it this time?”
Did Mo Chen think the Paranormal Bureau was his personal temple and shrine? Yet Cai Zeyu couldn’t even get angry. Everyone in the entire bureau combined wouldn’t stand a chance against him, so all Cai Zeyu could do was bow and scrape.
“Yun Jianyue told me to bring some people to you,” Mo Chen said ominously. It was unclear who had upset him, but his tone was exceptionally foul.
Cai Zeyu ventured, “Who?”
The next moment, the Evil God waved a hand, and the previously empty Paranormal Bureau was instantly packed with bewildered people.
The people who had been abruptly teleported from Dongwu to the Paranormal Bureau in their sleep were baffled, but Cai Zeyu and his colleagues were even more dumbfounded.
The eight-hundred-square-meter bureau was now crammed wall-to-wall with people in every room. Even Cai Zeyu himself vanished beneath the crowd.
“What the hell is going on?!” Cai Zeyu was losing his mind. When he looked for Mo Chen again, he discovered that Mo Chen had already disappeared.
One second, Zhang Ni had been asleep. The next, she found herself in a completely unfamiliar place.
Terrified, she forced herself to calm down.
Realizing that Cai Zeyu seemed to be in charge, she demanded, “What kind of trick are you playing now? Where are we? Have you decided we’re no longer useful, so you’re going to kill us all?”
“Huh? Are you Zhang Ni?” Cai Zeyu recognized her. With great difficulty, he pulled out his phone and compared the woman before him with the missing-person report on the screen.
Zhang Ni’s mind went blank. Like a madwoman, she snatched the phone from Cai Zeyu and saw her own missing-person report displayed on it.
“Are you a police officer? Is this a police station?” Zhang Ni dropped to her knees before Cai Zeyu. When she looked up again, tears were streaming down her face. “Please save us. Save us…”
An unbelievable thought flashed through Cai Zeyu’s mind.
Had that damn Yun Jianyue actually gotten the Evil God to transport every last person the criminal syndicate had lured there back home?
Fuck… This would be a glorious achievement worthy of going down in his service record!
Wait, no. The most important objective of this mission was rescuing Gao Weimin! Where was Gao Weimin?!
Dongwu.
Gao Weimin stared at the spot where Mo Chen had abruptly vanished and asked Yun Jianyue blankly, “So the entire compound is empty now?”
Yun Jianyue smiled and nodded. “That’s right. Everyone’s gone. Let’s go back to sleep.”
“We’re just going back to sleep?” Gao Weimin was dumbfounded.
“Yep. You go ahead and sleep. Just leave the rest to me.” Yun Jianyue grinned from ear to ear.
And so, Yun Jianyue successfully chased Gao Weimin off to bed. She then commandeered Brother Dao’s room, changed the sheets, and slept like a baby.
It was late morning when the door to Yun Jianyue’s room was kicked open with a bang.
Lin Sicheng, Sister Hong, and the others charged inside. Lin Sicheng grabbed Yun Jianyue by the collar and hauled her out of bed.
“Cuihua, how can you still be sleeping?! Everyone in the compound is gone! Where are they? Where the hell are my employees?!”
Yun Jianyue opened her bleary eyes, looking as if she had no idea what was happening. “What people? I already coaxed the big shot into going to sleep.”
Lin Sicheng roared, “This isn’t about Gao Weimin! Every single person in the compound has vanished into thin air!”
“What? There were thousands of people here, and they all vanished? Fourth Brother, are you sure you’re awake?” Yun Jianyue reached out as though to feel Lin Sicheng’s forehead.
At the end of his tether, Lin Sicheng shrieked, “You’re the one who isn’t awake!”
With that, Lin Sicheng dragged Yun Jianyue outside and took her from room to room to see for herself.
Every employee in the factory had vanished into thin air.
Yun Jianyue seemed to finally snap out of it. Then again, perhaps she hadn’t.
She gave her own cheek what looked like a hard pinch, then pulled an exaggerated grimace of pain. Her performance was worthy of an Oscar-winning actress.
“What’s going on? Where are my employees? I just became the boss, and now I’ve lost my entire workforce?”
Seeing Yun Jianyue’s baffled expression, Lin Sicheng lashed out in humiliation and kicked the chair beside him.
“Someone must have used the Five Ghosts Transport Technique to take all my people away!” Lin Sicheng was beside himself with rage. He couldn’t imagine who could have pulled off something on this scale, transporting thousands of his employees all at once.
Yun Jianyue asked in confusion, “What Five Ghosts Transport Technique? Shouldn’t we check the security footage first? There must be a mole. Maybe they drugged all of us, then let the employees out while everyone was asleep.”
With that, Yun Jianyue gave Lin Sicheng a firm look. “Fourth Brother, don’t buy into feudal superstition. We have to believe in science. There’s no such thing as ghosts in this world.”
Beside her, Lu Changxue looked from the sky to the ground, her gaze vacant.
Right. There were no ghosts in this world. No one should indulge in feudal superstition.
After all, even a ghost like her firmly believed in the Core Socialist Values.
Realizing there was no getting through to Yun Cuihua, Lin Sicheng pulled out his phone, dialed a number, and strode outside. “Eldest Brother, it’s me, Fourth. Something’s happened!”
Three hours later.
Yun Jianyue stood respectfully in an open lot with all the remaining members of their group, waiting for the arrivals.
Five extremely inconspicuous business vans drove in through the main gate. As soon as they entered, the lackeys guarding the entrance hurriedly shut the gate behind them.
Ten bodyguards dressed in black emerged from the vehicles at the front and rear. Their waists bulged conspicuously, making it obvious they were carrying certain items specifically covered by the criminal code.
Eight strangely dressed people stepped out of the two vans in between. The group included men and women, young and old, and every one of them radiated an unsettling aura. They were most likely Xuanmen practitioners from Southeast Asia.
From the front passenger seat of the central van emerged a shapely woman with fiery red lips and, incredibly, a pair of high heels.
After getting out, she opened the rear door. Two men who bore some resemblance to Lin Sicheng stepped out, followed by a handsome, delicate-featured young man.
“Eldest Brother! Second Brother! Third Brother!” Like a big, foolish dog that had suffered a terrible grievance, Lin Sicheng let out a howl and threw himself straight into Lin Tianjue’s arms.
His burly frame sent Lin Tianjue staggering. Fortunately, Lin Chunshu, the second brother, caught their eldest brother in time. Otherwise, the imposing entrance of an underworld boss would have turned into a comedy act.
Lin Fengting, the third brother, who was now wearing a new body, gave his foolish younger brother a helpless, disgusted look. “Stop embarrassing yourself. Tell us what happened.”
Lin Sicheng gave an obedient grunt and recounted the entire incident from beginning to end.
After listening to Lin Sicheng’s account, a ruthless glint flashed through Lin Fengting’s eyes. He walked over to Yun Jianyue. “You’re Yun Cuihua? After Fourth went to sleep last night, Xiao Hong and the others left too. Were you and Gao Weimin alone together?”
Yun Jianyue immediately pointed to Si Wuming on one side and Lu Changxue on the other. Her face practically screamed, “Better them than me.”
“Third Brother, they were there too. The three of us were keeping Boss Gao company at the mahjong table.”
Lin Fengting’s heart skipped a beat when he saw Yun Jianyue’s unabashed terror of death and how readily she sold out the other two.
Had he guessed wrong? Could this bizarre trio of newcomers really not be undercover agents?
If they were undercover, how could Yun Cuihua betray her own people so easily? No police officer would do something that unscrupulous.
