Chapter 62
Chapter 62
Yun Jianyue’s gaze fell on Yu Taoli’s tray. It held two meat dishes and one vegetable dish, as well as watermelon, dragon fruit, and even a bottle of milk.
Seeing Yun Jianyue staring at her tray, Yu Taoli’s facial muscles twitched several times, and her expression darkened further. “What are you looking at, you piece of trash? No wonder your parents sent you to this school to be reformed. Since you don’t know the rules, you’d better learn them properly! You won’t be eating for the next three days. Get lost!”
Yun Jianyue took a deep breath and smiled at Yu Taoli. “Fine. I’ll get lost right now.”
To her surprise, Yu Taoli saw her bright smile and immediately picked up the tray in her hands, hurling it at Yun Jianyue’s face. “Who gave you permission to smile? You filthy slut, are you trying to seduce men? That’ll teach you to act shamelessly!”
“Darling!” Lu Changxue screamed as she charged over. Yun Jianyue sidestepped and grabbed Lu Changxue, and together they neatly dodged both the tray and its contents.
The tray and food fell to the floor, where they were covered in dust.
Yu Taoli trembled with rage. “You still dare to dodge? Guards, take these two vermin to solitary confinement!”
“Yun Jianyue…” Qiao Yiyi called her name fearfully. She wanted to move closer to Yun Jianyue, but a single look from Yu Taoli frightened her into standing still.
Zhou Yang and Song Lu were pale as ghosts. Though they were grown men, neither even dared look back, and they stood there rigidly.
Three or four nearby guards advanced on Yun Jianyue and Lu Changxue with fierce expressions. Zhou Benxin leaped forward and kicked one of them flying.
“Just because the tiger hasn’t shown its claws, you think it’s a sick cat?”
Zhou Benxin worked out all year round. He was a little cowardly when facing ghosts, but he wasn’t afraid of people.
Against bodyguards as useless as these, he could take on three by himself.
“Guards! Students are causing trouble! Arrest all of them!” Yu Taoli shrieked.
The dozens of guards in the cafeteria sprang into action. They each drew an electric baton from their waists and closed in on the three of them.
The students who had been eating quickly carried their trays to the corners, and those standing in line scattered as well.
Yet, bizarrely, none of them made even the slightest sound.
Zhou Yang instinctively hid with the others. Song Lu was halfway through running when he noticed that Qiao Yiyi was still standing there in a daze. In the end, he gritted his teeth, ran back, grabbed Qiao Yiyi, and pulled her into a corner with him.
Yun Jianyue sighed. “The plan couldn’t keep up with the changes. I was going to sneak out tonight.”
Lu Changxue was so frightened she could barely think straight. “Darling, what do we do? What do we do? Are we going to be beaten to death here?”
“You weren’t alive in the first place.” Yun Jianyue pulled Lu Changxue, whose ghostly power had vanished, behind her. Then she snatched up the tray from the ground and smashed it hard into the head of the nearest guard.
The guard was battered into a daze. Yun Jianyue took the opportunity to seize the electric baton in his hand and cranked its power to the maximum.
Zhou Benxin fought fiercely, but when the electric batons landed on him, he still howled in pain from the shocks.
Huddled with the crowd, tears streamed down Qiao Yiyi’s face in heavy drops. She was scared and anxious, but finally seemed to make up her mind. Snatching the tray from someone beside her, she rushed out.
The guards in the melee hadn’t expected another student to resist. Qiao Yiyi struck the outermost guard with all her strength, and his head immediately burst open.
“Never underestimate a girl’s strength!” Qiao Yiyi cried as she picked up that guard’s electric baton. The surrounding guards came to their senses, and two of them immediately moved to attack her.
Song Lu stood amid the crowd, repeatedly telling himself, “Don’t get involved. Don’t get involved…”
But Qiao Yiyi had already been restrained by one guard, while another raised an electric baton, ready to jab it into her.
“Damn it, I said don’t get involved!” Song Lu cursed as he charged out, kicked that guard to the ground, and then clumsily fell down himself from putting too much force into the kick.
Yun Jianyue, fighting ten people by herself, had a dull ringing in her head. She grabbed another electric baton and handed it to Lu Changxue. “Find a way to break out first.”
Even as she spoke, Yun Jianyue swiftly and precisely swung her baton into the neck of a guard attacking her.
Over there, Qiao Yiyi bit the guard restraining her hard, taking the chance to break free. Song Lu got back on his feet as well, throwing punches even while taking blows.
Only Zhou Yang seemed to have blended into the students, cowering against the wall.
The scene was utterly chaotic.
The livestream was still running, and comments flooded the screen.
[The Young Warriors of the Great Song 2 Premieres Tonight: Holy crap, are they trying to beat them to death?!]
[But I Still Have to Write and Don’t Have Time to Watch: What kind of school is this? Isn’t this a prison?]
[Kakashi Is My Husband: Bullshit. I’ve been to prison, and the food there is far better than this!]
[Professional Martial Arts Consultant: That little beauty is impressive. Every time, she hits a vital spot that temporarily leaves her opponent unable to move.]
[Blow Up the Whole School: If they keep fighting like this, they’re all going to die!]
At the same time, the people of the Paranormal Bureau saw the livestream as well.
More than a dozen people were holding an emergency meeting in the Paranormal Bureau’s conference room in City A. The livestream was playing on the large screen before them.
Yun Jianyue was formidable, but she was outnumbered. Several bruises had already appeared on her body.
Si Wuming sat at the far end of the table, still wearing his usual expressionless face. Yet everyone in the conference room could feel the low pressure surrounding him.
Cai Zeyu, the team leader, spoke. “A Taoist practitioner from Mount Longhu contacted us and said that several college students had entered the Inner World and were livestreaming their entire experience. What you’re seeing now is everything those college students have gone through in the Inner World. Our external staff member Yun Jianyue is among them.”
“The information on these college students has been sent to everyone. Now, all of you, head to Hongdou Hotel immediately!”
Inner World.
The five of them had been dumped into the detention room in a neat row. Every one of them had a swollen, bruised face and injuries all over their bodies.
They had nearly made it out of the cafeteria when dozens more security guards suddenly appeared. The five of them had been completely overwhelmed.
“Well, at least we’re all together again.” Lu Changxue tried to make the best of things and forced a smile. A second later, the pain made her grimace, and she burst into tears. “Waaah, I still want to be a ghost! Getting beaten up as a human hurts too much!”
Zhou Benxin hunched his shoulders and said apologetically, “I’m sorry. I acted on impulse just now. I shouldn’t have hit them.”
Yun Jianyue waved a hand. “Even if you hadn’t, those security guards still would’ve beaten Lu Changxue and me up.”
“But if he hadn’t fought back, only you and Lu Changxue would’ve been beaten. Now look at us. We’re all here to keep Hu Qi company.” Song Lu sat on the floor, his face full of displeasure. At the end, he shot another vicious glare at the unconscious Hu Qi in the corner.
Yun Jianyue clicked her tongue. “You wouldn’t have been beaten if you hadn’t charged out, either. Young man, your mouth says no, but your body tells the truth, doesn’t it?”
Song Lu irritably turned his head away so he wouldn’t have to look at Yun Jianyue and muttered, “Was I supposed to just watch women get beaten?”
“What do we do now?” Qiao Yiyi asked.
Yun Jianyue rubbed her head. Great. The few black hairpins she’d had clipped into her hair were gone, too.
She looked around the room. It was roughly seven or eight square meters, with a very low ceiling of only about two meters ten. Zhou Benxin was nearly a meter eighty tall, and when he stood upright, he could touch the ceiling.
The entire room had only one narrow window, high up on the southern wall near the ceiling.
There was no glass in it. Several steel bars as thick as a thumb had been welded across it, sealing it shut.
In the southern corner stood a wooden bucket covered with a lid. Even with the lid on, the stench of urine and feces wafting from inside was unmistakable.
It was humid and stifling in the summer heat. With all of them drenched in sweat and the overwhelming stench of human waste filling the room, the place was practically a rural outhouse.
“Stay here. I’ll go out and take a look after dark,” Yun Jianyue said.
“How are you going to get out?” Zhou Benxin asked, bewildered. Wasn’t this just a sealed room? The heavy iron door had been locked from the outside, and it was at least a dozen centimeters thick. They could smash themselves into cripples and still never break through it.
Just then, the iron door opened.
Two fierce-looking security guards dragged in a female student with a swollen, bruised face and tossed her inside.
The girl hit the floor, covered in dust. Lu Changxue hurried over to help her up, but the girl dodged away.
Lu Changxue’s awkwardly outstretched hand hung in midair. After a few seconds, she sheepishly pulled it back. By then, the girl had already shrunk into the only unoccupied corner. She curled her legs against her body, hugged herself tightly with both arms, and buried her head in the crook of her elbows.
Yun Jianyue recognized her. “Fei Dan?”
Fei Dan sprang to her feet as if startled and stood ramrod straight. “Present!”
When she realized it wasn’t a teacher calling on her, Fei Dan went limp like a released spring and slumped heavily against the wall.
Lu Changxue was baffled. “Darling, how do you know her?”
Yun Jianyue said, “She’s our classmate. I passed her desk on the way to the cafeteria and saw her name on her notebook.”
“Fei Dan, why were you locked up, too?” Yun Jianyue asked.
Fei Dan lowered her head. Her expression was as lifeless and vacant as a corpse’s. She seemed not to have heard Yun Jianyue and remained silent.
“Did they hurt you?” Yun Jianyue asked again.
The question seemed to flip some kind of switch inside Fei Dan. She looked at Yun Jianyue in terror and screamed herself hoarse. “Nobody hurt me! Nobody hurt me! I deserve this! I’m worthless trash, a parasite on society, a piece of garbage!”
Qiao Yiyi was already on the verge of breaking down. The moment she saw Fei Dan lose control like that, two streams of tears slid down her face.
Hearing Qiao Yiyi sob softly, Fei Dan lunged at her like a madwoman and clamped a hand over her mouth. “Don’t cry! If you cry, they’ll beat you! They’ll beat you to death! Don’t cry! The more you cry, the more excited they get. They’ll even force you to take medicine, and you’ll bleed so, so much!”
Yun Jianyue reacted quickly and pulled Fei Dan away. Terrified, Qiao Yiyi threw herself into the arms of Zhou Benxin, the nearest person, and sobbed bitterly.
“Don’t cry! Do you hear me? Don’t cry!” Fei Dan screamed desperately. Her beautiful features had become horrifying, making her look like a vengeful ghost that had crawled out of hell.
Yun Jianyue tried to stop Fei Dan’s rampage, but Fei Dan struggled with all her might.
“Riiip!”
With a crisp tearing sound, a large section of Fei Dan’s collar ripped open.
She instinctively covered her chest in terror, then dropped to her knees before Yun Jianyue with a thud. “Don’t hit me. Please, don’t hit me. I’ll serve you well. Just don’t hit me…”
Even when facing that pack of vicious security guards and teachers, Yun Jianyue had never lost her temper.
But now, her expression was grim.
She had seen it clearly just moments ago. There were several deep and shallow finger marks on Fei Dan’s chest.
Judging by the size of the prints, they had been left by a man.
