Chapter 66
Chapter 66
Si Wuming looked away and said quietly, “You must’ve seen wrong. I’ve had it on me the whole time.”
Yun Jianyue: ???
Did this man think she was blind?
“A man who lies isn’t worth keeping. He belongs in the trash,” Yun Jianyue warned.
Si Wuming fell silent for a few seconds before saying in a slightly aggrieved tone, “I’m sorry.”
Yun Jianyue laughed in exasperation. Sure, he’d apologized, but he still wasn’t going to tell her where the knife had come from, was he?
Fine. If he didn’t want to tell her, so be it. Yun Jianyue couldn’t be bothered to keep asking. Si Wuming had as many secrets as she had hairs on her head. They were impossible to count.
“I’ll count three, two, one, then we charge straight in.” Yun Jianyue pointed at the two rooms nearest to them, indicating that she would take one and Si Wuming the other.
Si Wuming nodded. As soon as she finished speaking, they shot forward like arrows loosed from a bow.
“Bang!”
With a single kick, Yun Jianyue smashed open the door that had been locked from the inside, startling several people in the room awake.
Before they could figure out what was happening, Yun Jianyue had already chopped off the head of the person sleeping nearest the door.
The roar of the chainsaw was especially grating in the stillness of the night. The others scrambled out of bed, but before they could even reach their stun batons, Yun Jianyue cleanly lopped off every one of their heads.
“We’re short on time. Otherwise, I’d cut off your tools of crime too.” Yun Jianyue spat, a hint of regret in her voice.
The noise of her kicking down the door had awakened people in several nearby rooms. Some guards came out carrying stun batons, still bleary-eyed as they looked around. Before one of them could see what was happening, a sharp Tang sword separated his head from his body.
A guard who witnessed the scene bellowed at the top of his lungs, “Students are causing trouble! Everyone, get up! Be on guard!”
Within seconds, the lights in the rooms on the first and second floors came on. Even several rooms on the third and fourth floors lit up.
The guards had barely managed to dress. Many rushed out wearing only shorts, stun batons in hand.
In less than two minutes, more than a hundred guards had surrounded Yun Jianyue and Si Wuming.
“She’s the one who caused trouble in the cafeteria earlier!”
One of the guards recognized Yun Jianyue.
“Wasn’t she locked in the isolation room?” another guard asked in confusion. “And where did she get that chainsaw? Does our school even have one?”
The captain of the guards ground his teeth. “Who cares where she got it? She killed our brothers! Beat this little bitch to death!”
One guard, emboldened by lust, let out a lecherous laugh. “Don’t kill her. Leave her breathing so the boys can have some fun. This little bitch is pretty hot.”
Most of these men were scum from the outside world. They didn’t even have security licenses.
They had come here to work as guards solely to enjoy the thrill of ruling the place like petty tyrants. Every female student who caught their eye was forced to become their plaything.
As for any male student they disliked, they beat, cursed, and humiliated him at will, sometimes even forcing him to drink urine and eat feces.
Yun Jianyue hadn’t even moved when a flash of cold light streaked past, and the tongue of the guard who had spoken dropped to the floor.
Murderous fury churned in Si Wuming’s eyes. He didn’t say a word, but his mood was written all over his face.
Pissed off.
“Such a good boy. Fine, I’ll treat you to a meal once we get out,” Yun Jianyue said with a laugh.
She chatted and laughed without pausing her assault for even a moment, raising the chainsaw and swinging it straight at the nearest guard.
The guard instinctively raised his stun baton to block, but Yun Jianyue sliced it cleanly in half!
And not just the stun baton. His head was split in half too.
The surrounding guards were stunned. Was this woman Popeye? How could she be so strong?!
Yun Jianyue was still grinning. Of course slaughtering scum felt incredible. How could she not be happy?
Meanwhile, the male teachers were watching from upstairs. When they saw that Yun Jianyue and Si Wuming were no easy targets and had killed more than a dozen guards in just a few minutes, they could no longer sit still.
“Grab your weapons! Those two students have gone crazy! We have to kill them before they become a danger to society!”
“That’s right! We’re teachers. Dealing with scum students is our duty!”
Most of the male teachers grabbed weapons and rushed viciously downstairs. Several others ran to the fifth floor and knocked on the female teachers’ doors, calling for them to come help.
They seemed remarkably united, speaking with such righteous conviction that one might think they were justice incarnate, while Yun Jianyue and the other students who dared to resist were evil, hideous vermin.
Hundreds of men surged toward them in a dense mass, like a swarm of locusts sweeping across the land, intent on reducing every living thing in their path to bare bones.
“Scared?” Si Wuming asked.
Yun Jianyue wiped her face, smearing the blood across it. Her tone remained light. “Scared my ass. Let’s fucking do this!”
Just then, Zhou Benxin’s clear, ringing voice came from several dozen meters behind them.
“Senior! We’re here!”
Yun Jianyue turned around and saw Zhou Benxin and Song Lu running toward her with chainsaws in hand.
A huge crowd of male students surged along behind them.
The students at the front carried the stun batons Zhou Benxin and the others had brought to the men’s dormitory. Those behind them were armed with stainless-steel basins, table legs, and even brooms.
Their faces were filled with a vitality they had never shown before, even if that vitality came from anger and hatred.
“Kill them and fight our way out! We want freedom! We’re not livestock they keep in a pigsty!”
Yun Jianyue spotted blood splattered across Zhou Benxin’s body.
But this was no time for questions. This was the time to settle old scores.
The security guards and teachers were all taken aback. They couldn’t understand why the students, who were usually more obedient than dogs, had suddenly gone berserk and dared to fight back. Hadn’t they already beaten this entire group into submission?
“Spacing out? You’ll have plenty of time for that once you’re in hell!”
Yun Jianyue’s chainsaw claimed another victim. She gave the scum no chance to retaliate.
The students fought the security guards and teachers in a frenzy. Whoever won snatched up a stun baton and kept attacking. Whoever lost immediately had classmates rushing to help them.
“Darling! I’m here too!”
Lu Changxue’s voice rang out from afar. A large group followed behind her, including Fei Dan and countless female students who had suffered abuse and humiliation.
At first, Lu Changxue had obediently waited for Yun Jianyue in the principal’s office. But when she saw Yun Jianyue and Si Wuming storming the security guards’ headquarters on their own, she couldn’t sit still any longer.
It was Fei Dan who suggested that they all take a chance and fight. Maybe they would find a way to escape.
Fei Dan took Lu Changxue to the girls’ dormitory. They killed the two old women guarding the entrance, then carried their heads around the dormitory, rallying half the female students to join them.
Some of the girls had been so thoroughly broken and conditioned that they had lost all human dignity. They were too afraid to come, and Fei Dan did not force them.
She knew exactly how they felt. She understood how hard it was for them.
Both sides suffered heavy casualties in the melee, and corpses piled up across the open ground in front of the dormitory.
Some of the bodies belonged to teachers, some to security guards, and some to students.
But most of the students survived.
They stared at the bodies covering the ground, hardly daring to believe what they had done.
It wasn’t until Fei Dan screamed herself hoarse, “We’re free! We’re free! Run! Get out of here!” that the students snapped out of their daze.
They took off toward the school gates, and before long, the crowd smashed through the iron gates.
The heavy gates crashed to the ground, revealing the world outside.
The students stared beyond the gates in bewilderment. Then someone suddenly broke down sobbing.
“There is no outside world. There is no…”
Beyond the towering gates lay nothing but an endless expanse of white.
There had never been an outside world here. There was only this demonic school.
Day after day, they had been forced to relive the same tragedy.
The stun baton slipped from Fei Dan’s hand and clattered to the ground. She stiffly turned around and saw Yun Jianyue, covered in blood. Two streams of tears slid down her face.
“I remember now. You aren’t students from here. We are.”
Yun Jianyue opened her mouth, wanting to say something.
Fei Dan gave a bitter laugh. “I remember now. I remember everything. We died a long time ago, in the fire at Hongdou Hotel. Our obsessions were too strong, so we became trapped in this world, reliving everything over and over again.”
The students also turned around stiffly. Hundreds of pairs of eyes all fixed on the same person.
Their expressions were numb, their eyes hollow and despairing.
This night was far too long. They would never see the dawn.
“I’m sorry. I can’t change your fate.” Yun Jianyue swallowed hard. In the end, everything she wanted to say became that single apology.
Fei Dan tugged at the corners of her mouth, trying to smile, but the result looked even more painful than crying. “It’s all right. At least we managed to fight back and win once. Thank you.”
“Thank you all.” Fei Dan’s gaze fell on the people standing behind Yun Jianyue. As soon as she finished speaking, motes of white light began to rise from her body.
She was like a star fallen into the mortal world, finally fading into this man-eating darkness.
In the end, every student became a star.
Yun Jianyue and the others stood amid the scattered starlight, watching every one of them disappear before their eyes.
Cai Zeyu and the others also hurried over. They were so shocked by the sight that they couldn’t speak.
After a long while, Cai Zeyu finally found his voice. “What’s going on? Everyone in the school has disappeared, but we’re still in the Inner World.”
“That proves the students aren’t the core,” Yun Jianyue said.
“Why don’t we burn everything? We should find the core of the Inner World eventually, right?” Du Minghao, in his infinite wisdom, offered this remarkably incisive suggestion.
Everyone exchanged glances. To their surprise, the idea actually seemed feasible.
Yun Jianyue went straight to the principal’s office to find Mo Chen. He was still scrolling through his phone.
“Oh? You’re actually fine.” Mo Chen looked a little surprised to see Yun Jianyue with all her limbs intact.
Yun Jianyue couldn’t be bothered to waste words on him and told him to conjure up some kerosene. Mo Chen shrugged and produced a large amount of it, even thoughtfully providing lighters as well.
The group found Zhou Yang hiding in the boys’ dormitory, then carried Hu Qi out of the detention room. They poured kerosene into every corner of Yunyi Middle School, and everyone gathered on the spacious sports field.
A lit lighter was tossed onto the kerosene. A single spark instantly flared and spread, and in the blink of an eye, the entire school was engulfed in flames.
