Chapter 77
Chapter 77
Yun Jianyue and Lu Changxue followed the two lackeys as they escorted the man all the way to the rearmost bungalow in a cluster of single-story buildings.
The room was spotless and reeked of disinfectant.
Several wire-frame beds stood in the otherwise empty room, their surfaces stained with blood that could never be fully scrubbed away.
Chains were attached to the head and foot of every bed.
Their purpose was obvious: they were used to strap people down.
There was also some sterilization equipment, a large refrigerated cabinet, and two metal cupboards whose contents were unknown.
One of the men who had eaten at Brother Dao’s table yesterday was sitting in a chair watching television.
He looked about thirty-five, with a refined appearance and black-rimmed glasses.
One of the lackeys called out as they entered, “Doctor Jian, Brother Dao said to take care of this guy.”
Doctor Jian glanced up at the man they were holding, then returned his attention to the television. “Got it. Strap him to the bed.”
Clearly, this was not the lackeys’ first time doing something like this. They expertly secured the man to the bed. The moment they forced him down, he finally lost control of his fear and began shrieking and wailing.
One of the lackeys immobilized his head, then roughly slapped a strip of tape over his mouth.
Still watching television, Doctor Jian asked, “What are you two doing here?”
“We were curious, so Brother Dao told us to come see how you handle the organs,” Yun Jianyue answered with an honest expression, speaking in an exaggeratedly cutesy voice from the very first word.
Doctor Jian’s entire body jolted. He turned to look at Yun Jianyue and recognized her as the newcomer who had challenged Brother Dao yesterday. His expression became rather strange, as if he had a thousand things stuck in his throat. In the end, all he said was:
“Then disinfect yourselves later and watch from the side.”
Yun Jianyue let out a bizarre whine, looking utterly brainless. “Huh? We have to disinfect ourselves too? That’s such a pain!”
Doctor Jian was speechless.
After enduring it for a moment, he finally snapped. “I can remove whatever’s lodged in your throat for free.”
“But this is my natural little-girl voice. You’re so mean, Doctor Jian!” By now, Yun Jianyue could play an idiot with effortless skill.
Once the lackeys finished tying the man down, they left.
Doctor Jian had originally planned to finish the episode before getting to work, but Yun Jianyue’s affected voice had completely killed his mood.
He switched off the television and walked over to the large metal cupboard, taking out an anesthetic.
In a hospital, anesthetics were the doctors’ responsibility. Outside a hospital, they were the police’s business.
Yun Jianyue had caught a glimpse inside the cupboard just now. It was packed with medical supplies and drugs. Besides the anesthetics, there were many medications she did not recognize.
This place was criminal in every sense of the word.
“What’s that?” Yun Jianyue pointed at the anesthetic in Doctor Jian’s hand, continuing to play dumb.
Doctor Jian’s face remained expressionless. “Anesthetic.”
Yun Jianyue covered her mouth in surprise. “I thought you were just going to cut him open! You’re so humane, Doctor Jian!”
“This has nothing to do with being humane. To remove the organs intact, I need him to stay perfectly still!” A vein throbbed on Doctor Jian’s forehead. Where had this monstrosity come from? Had Brother Dao been unhappy with him lately and deliberately sent her here to torment him?
“Wow, you’re amazing, Doctor Jian! Are you really a doctor?” Yun Jianyue continued her flawless performance.
Doctor Jian gritted his teeth. “Why do you think they call me Doctor Jian?”
Yun Jianyue replied, “I thought it was just a nickname.”
“I spent eight years training and earned a master’s degree in surgery! I graduated from an elite Project 985 university!” Doctor Jian exploded. How dare anyone question the dignity of a medical graduate?
“That’s incredible! I’m nothing like you. I stopped going to school after junior high. You must make a lot of money, right, Doctor Jian? Educated people are supposed to have really high salaries.” Yun Jianyue continued her steady performance.
Doctor Jian fought to keep his hand from trembling as he administered the anesthetic. Gritting his back teeth, he said, “I’ve worked here for six years. Of course I get paid differently from the rest of you.”
He was part of the inner circle. Had this woman not seen him dining at their table yesterday?
After administering the anesthetic, Doctor Jian turned around and discovered that Yun Jianyue had silently appeared behind him. She was curiously studying the person on the operating table.
“Do you make no sound when you walk?” Doctor Jian jumped in fright. He wanted so badly to dissect this woman too. Her eyes were so beautiful, so her corneas had to be beautiful as well, right?
And her vocal cords. He really wanted to see whether they naturally looked like that or whether she just had phlegm stuck in her throat!
Yun Jianyue blinked innocently. “I have another question. Is it true that hitting someone on the back of the neck can knock them unconscious, like they do on TV?”
The muscles in Doctor Jian’s face twitched uncontrollably. “It is, but if you don’t control your strength properly, you could easily kill them. Why are you asking?”
“So I can put it into practice, of course.”
The phlegm in Yun Jianyue’s throat finally seemed to clear. She flashed him a perfectly harmless smile, lunged forward, and struck Doctor Jian on the neck with a knife-hand blow, knocking him unconscious.
The entire move was executed with effortless precision. Doctor Jian hit the floor before he could even react.
Lu Changxue, who had been fighting the urge to vomit this whole time, asked, “Darling, what do we do now? Knocking him out won’t save this person. And once he wakes up, won’t the two of us be exposed?”
“Didn’t I tell you I have a special skill?”
“What is it?”
“Calling for backup.”
With that, Yun Jianyue grabbed the Red Thread of Fate and shook it furiously, chanting under her breath, “Appear, my summoned beast! Nominal Husband Mo Chen!”
Lu Changxue: Impressive.
As if she could actually summon the Evil God like that!
At least she’d yelled for help a few times before. Had she finally decided to drop the act altogether?
The next instant, Mo Chen’s jade-like hand closed around Yun Jianyue’s wrist. As usual, the Evil God’s tone was terrible, laden with an intense desire to strangle her.
“Stop shaking it.”
Lu Changxue: …
She had actually summoned him.
What else was there to say? Impressive!
“Oh my, if it isn’t my Darling Husband!” Yun Jianyue exclaimed with feigned delight, immediately launching into shameless flattery.
Mo Chen’s eyelid twitched violently. “Spit it out. Cut the crap.”
Pointing at the person on the operating table, Yun Jianyue said, “Can you take him away and hand him over to the Paranormal Bureau? Then make me a dissected corpse that looks exactly like him, complete with all the organs.”
“Anything else?” Mo Chen’s handsome face was full of irritation. This woman was such a nuisance. Did she think he was some wish-granting turtle living in a wishing well? How could she have so many demands?
“Yes. Alter Doctor Jian’s memory a little. Make him remember that I never hit him, that he completed the dissection, and that Lu Changxue and I watched the whole thing,” Yun Jianyue said.
Mo Chen crossed his arms and raised an eyebrow. “Why come to me to alter memories? Wouldn’t Si Wuming be better at it?”
Yun Jianyue theatrically covered her mouth in exaggerated shock. “No way. Don’t tell me the Show-Off King can do something you can’t?”
Lu Changxue: …Go ahead, keep provoking your Nominal Husband just because he can’t kill you right now!
Mo Chen’s expression instantly darkened. With a lift of his hand, he altered Doctor Jian’s memory.
His voice simmered with barely restrained fury. “Yun Jianyue, who exactly are you looking down on?!”
