Chapter 39
Chapter 39
The sight of a petite young woman pinning a devilishly handsome man beneath her foot was so striking that Fang Lin’an’s thoughts instantly veered in an inappropriate direction.
The two people at the center of the scene, however, had no such thoughts whatsoever.
Mo Chen clearly hadn’t expected Yun Jianyue to break through his restraints. His expression darkened to an extreme as his bone-chilling hand slowly closed around her smooth ankle.
“Little Bride, in all three thousand years of my existence, you’re the first person who has ever dared to step on me.”
The instant Mo Chen touched her, Yun Jianyue pulled her foot back, then stomped down hard again.
This time, she was aiming for his face!
“Oh? Really? Wow, I’m amazing!”
Mo Chen caught her foot with one hand. Yun Jianyue’s foot was small enough that, held in his grasp, it looked like a doll’s.
“Once was enough. I don’t feel like killing you yet.” Mo Chen flung Yun Jianyue away. Everyone’s vision blurred, and in the next instant, he was standing two meters away from her with his clothes once again perfectly neat.
Yun Jianyue sneered. “You may not want to kill me, but I want to kill you.”
There was no way she could leave her life in the hands of someone so dangerous and temperamental.
Mo Chen’s expression grew even darker. “You aren’t capable of that.”
“Really? I don’t believe you.” Yun Jianyue genuinely didn’t. Since she had managed to cut off Mo Chen’s hair and prevent it from growing back, she could surely cut off his limbs and stop them from regenerating too!
As she spoke, Yun Jianyue pulled a dagger from behind her waist.
Lu Changxue: ???
Hadn’t they agreed on a chainsaw? Why was she carrying a knife too?
“My blood seems to have some effect on you, doesn’t it?” Yun Jianyue carefully recalled every detail of what had happened in the underground palace that day and ultimately concluded that if she wanted to hurt Mo Chen, she needed to use her blood as a catalyst.
The weapon itself didn’t matter. What mattered was her blood!
Instead of getting angry, Mo Chen laughed. His bewitchingly beautiful face was captivating enough to steal one’s soul. “Very clever. And then?”
Last time, he hadn’t known Yun Jianyue’s blood could prevent his regeneration, which was the only reason she had managed to catch him off guard.
Surely his beautiful, foolish human Little Bride didn’t actually think she could hurt him a second time?
He might not know how she had broken through his restraints, but that was all she could do, wasn’t it?
Looking into Mo Chen’s smiling eyes and hearing the contempt in his voice, Yun Jianyue couldn’t help grinding her molars. “Then I’ll gouge out your eyes and pickle them in wine.”
“You like my eyes?” Mo Chen seemed rather surprised.
Yun Jianyue: ???
“Aren’t you a little too full of yourself?” Yun Jianyue’s brows drew together so tightly they nearly knotted. After all her years of being a freak, this was the first time someone had managed to out-freak her.
Mo Chen chuckled. “My eyes are indeed beautiful.”
He was right, as a matter of fact. Objectively speaking, his eyes were exceptionally beautiful. If Yun Jianyue had to name someone whose eyes were just as attractive, the only person she could think of was Si Wuming.
But Si Wuming was just an innocent, bashful little wolfdog who happened to be the Show-Off King. He wasn’t remotely this deranged!
Mo Chen clicked his tongue. “If you like them, you can have one.”
What?
An absurd possibility flashed through Yun Jianyue’s mind.
The next second, that absurd thought became reality.
Without the slightest hesitation, Mo Chen plunged his slender fingers into his own eye socket. With a flick of his index finger, he dug out his right eyeball.
With the eye gone, his socket was pitch-black, and wisps of black mist could even be seen swirling within it.
There was no blood or flesh.
He was an Evil God.
Mo Chen didn’t seem to feel any pain at all. He placed the dazzling, obsidian-like eyeball in his palm and held it out to Yun Jianyue.
“It’s yours.”
Digging out his own eyeball and giving it away as a gift-there was no angle from which the scene didn’t look downright bizarre.
At some point, Fang Lin’an and Zhou Benxin had huddled together for warmth. Both of them were trembling like leaves.
Lu Changxue screamed internally: Could someone please stop pinning her to the floor? She wanted to huddle with them too! Digging out your own eyeball was enough to scare even a ghost out of her wits!
“It looks pretty valuable.” Yun Jianyue reached out and accepted the eyeball. She even incongruously breathed on it, then wiped away the mist and slipped it into her pocket.
Fang Lin’an shook like a sieve. “Isn’t your senior a little too twisted? What normal person would actually take it?!”
Zhou Benxin gave a bleak smile. “I always knew she was twisted. I just didn’t realize she was this twisted.”
Lu Changxue shouted, “Is anyone going to speak up for me? I’m still on the floor!”
The moment Yun Jianyue pocketed the eyeball, her expression changed. “Bribing me won’t work. Though I might consider it if you give me the other one too.”
Two eyeballs from an Evil God. If she turned around and sold them to the Paranormal Bureau, they ought to fetch a tidy sum, right?
This time, it was Mo Chen’s turn to fall silent.
Of course. How could he ever have thought this woman would be afraid?
Forget digging out his eyeballs and giving them to her. Even if he scooped out his brain and handed it over, she would probably toss it into a pot and stew it without so much as batting an eye.
Yun Jianyue’s delicate face grew even colder. “What? You don’t want to give it to me?”
Mo Chen dug out his remaining eyeball and handed it over.
No matter how breathtakingly handsome a face was, two empty, pitch-black eye sockets were enough to make it sinister and terrifying.
Even without his eyes, Mo Chen could still “see” Yun Jianyue.
This human Little Bride of his gleefully stuffed both of his eyeballs into her pants pocket.
Just as an eerie silence descended over the room, Daoist Chu’s voice rang out from the courtyard.
“The Evil God is inside! Form the array!”
The clamor of dozens of Daoists rushing through the courtyard followed. So when Daoist Chu had fled a few hours earlier, he had gone to fetch reinforcements!
Every Daoist in the courtyard wore Daoist robes and carried numerous ritual artifacts. They were all trained practitioners from Chongguang Mountain with genuine cultivation under their belts.
A trace of impatience crossed Mo Chen’s face. He seemed ready to kill every last one of them.
Then, as though something had occurred to him, he ultimately chose not to act.
He gave Yun Jianyue a faint smile. “We will meet again, Little Bride.”
With that, he dissolved into a wisp of black smoke and vanished from the room.
Once Fang Lin’an was certain Mo Chen had left, he finally breathed a sigh of relief. He hurriedly jumped off the bed and ran into the courtyard. “Martial Uncle Chu, the Evil God escaped!”
Still in the middle of forming the array, Daoist Chu peered into the room doubtfully. When he saw that Mo Chen was indeed gone, he let out a long breath of relief.
“Thank goodness he’s gone. How did you manage to provoke something so terrifying?” Daoist Chu asked.
As soon as the words left his mouth, Daoist Chu sensed that something was off. He swept his gaze over everyone in the room again: Yun Jianyue, Zhou Benxin, and an A-rank vengeful ghost.
Mm. Young Friend Zhou was alive.
Mm. The A-rank vengeful ghost was writhing and screaming.
Mm…
Terrified, Daoist Chu began wildly brandishing the horsetail whisk in his hand and shrieked, “The corpse has risen! The A-rank vengeful ghost is still here! Form the array! Form the array!”
Surrounded by so many Daoists who were now preparing an array against her, Lu Changxue also screamed in terror. “I’m a good ghost! Don’t kill me! Darling, save me!”
Zhou Benxin joined the chorus of screams. “I didn’t rise from the dead! I’m still alive! Alive!”
