Chapter 13
Chapter 13
The vast underground palace was shrouded in gloom, its walls lined with eerie stone statues.
At the head of the empty hall, a long-haired man in black robes sat upon a cold stone chair.
He possessed a dark, bewitching beauty and radiated an aura that warned all living beings to keep their distance.
His narrow eyes half-lidded, he studied his pale wrist. A faint Red Thread of Fate was wrapped around it, something that had appeared out of nowhere just one minute ago.
“Holy shit!”
A woman’s voice suddenly exploded above the hall. The next moment, Yun Jianyue dropped out of thin air and landed squarely in the man’s lap.
Their eyes met. After a long moment, Yun Jianyue flashed him a toothy grin and said, “Hey, handsome.”
The man’s expression did not change in the slightest. His gaze merely shifted from Yun Jianyue’s face to her wrist.
An ethereal Red Thread of Fate connected them, one end tied around Yun Jianyue’s wrist and the other around his.
“My… bride?” Mo Chen arched a brow, the corner of his mouth lifting in an amused smile.
Who had the audacity to arrange a ghost marriage for him?
And how bold of this Red Thread of Fate to actually bind itself to him.
“What bride?” Yun Jianyue had also noticed the Red Thread of Fate around her wrist. She raised her hand and flexed it, discovering that the thread did not restrict her movements at all.
Then, with a truly reckless appreciation for beauty, she began examining Mo Chen.
She had to admit, this man was ridiculously handsome. His skin looked as though it had been run through a beauty filter. She couldn’t even see his pores.
The only flaw was that he wasn’t breathing. His chest did not rise or fall at all. He clearly wasn’t alive.
“Sorry to intrude, but I have somewhere to be. I’ll be going now.”
Yun Jianyue pushed herself out of Mo Chen’s arms. She had only just sat upright, with one leg not yet touching the floor, when the man’s large hand clamped firmly around her slender waist.
“Where do you think you’re going, my bride?”
She instinctively raised her hands to brace herself, and by sheer coincidence, both landed on solid muscle.
Emboldened by his good looks, Yun Jianyue couldn’t control her hands and gave the muscles a firm squeeze.
What a great feel!
Mo Chen’s expression instantly turned terrifyingly dark. Yun Jianyue’s reflection appeared in his pitch-black eyes as though he were already looking at a corpse.
“Are you still squeezing?” Mo Chen ground out in a low voice.
Yun Jianyue sheepishly withdrew her hands and gave him an apologetic smile. “Would you believe me if I said I didn’t do it on purpose?”
“Hah.” Mo Chen let out a cold laugh, and a tremendous force hurled Yun Jianyue to the floor.
“Talk about a quick change of heart! You weren’t acting like this when you were feeling up my waist just now.” Yun Jianyue scrambled to her feet, her palms burning with pain.
She glanced down and discovered that the fall had scraped the skin from both hands. Tiny beads of blood welled from the wounds, quickly staining half her palms red.
Mo Chen casually raised a hand and curled his fingers as though gripping someone’s throat.
Despite the five or six meters between them, Yun Jianyue felt an immense force close around her neck.
The air in her lungs rapidly dwindled. If she didn’t do something soon, he really would strangle her to death.
Mo Chen remained seated at his leisure on the stone chair, watching with keen interest as Yun Jianyue’s cheeks gradually flushed red. “I don’t know what trick you used to bind me into a ghost marriage, but it ends here.”
“I’m this gorgeous, and you don’t feel even the slightest bit tempted?” Yun Jianyue could barely breathe, yet she still couldn’t resist talking back and wasting the precious air left in her lungs.
“It seems I’m not squeezing hard enough.” Mo Chen’s long, well-defined fingers tightened slightly.
The next moment, Yun Jianyue’s eyes nearly rolled back into her head.
Fine. If he was going to be ruthless, then he couldn’t blame her for fighting dirty.
Yun Jianyue hitched up her skirt and reached one hand down the front of her pants, looking utterly indecent.
A chill flashed through Mo Chen’s eyes, and his voice grew even colder. “Shameless.”
Just as Mo Chen was about to move his hand again, Yun Jianyue struggled to pull out a miniature chainsaw.
What was that thing? For the first time in his thousands of years of existence, confusion appeared on Mo Chen’s face.
He soon found out.
Yun Jianyue started the chainsaw, and its motor roared to life with a deafening noise. Summoning strength from some unknown source, she forced her way through Mo Chen’s power and charged up to him in a few quick strides.
Mo Chen arched a brow, surprised that Yun Jianyue had managed to break free of his power.
He had only used a trace of the Evil God’s Power, but the fact that an ordinary human could break through its restraints was intriguing indeed.
“You can still breathe. Impressive,” Mo Chen praised without reservation.
Yun Jianyue’s face was almost as red as an apple. Flashing him a bright, toothy grin, she seized a fistful of his waterfall-like hair and hacked through it with the chainsaw.
Mo Chen paid no mind to her actions. His body was immortal and indestructible. Any damage to his flesh, hair, or skin could simply regenerate.
A thick mass of ink-black hair fluttered to the floor. Mo Chen chuckled and invoked the Evil God’s Power to regrow it.
The next moment, his expression changed drastically.
Why wasn’t his hair growing back?!
“What did you do to me?!” His former composure vanished. Humiliated and enraged, Mo Chen seized Yun Jianyue by the throat with his own hand.
Using the last bit of air in her lungs, Yun Jianyue let out a gleefully obnoxious giggle. “Hehe! The handsome guy’s an ugly freak now.”
In a flash, she raised the chainsaw and swung it toward Mo Chen’s heart.
He could not let her strike him with that strange contraption! Mo Chen’s body reacted instantly. With a sweep of his sleeve, he sent Yun Jianyue flying.
His gaze swept over the severed hair on the floor, and for the first time in millennia, fury rose within him.
He had felt neither joy nor sorrow for many years. From the moment he became an Evil God, he had lost all human emotion.
But now, rage consumed his thoughts. His emotions screamed incessantly at him to kill this damned woman.
Not only had she dared to enter a ghost marriage with him, but she had also dared to cut off his hair.
Amid his blazing fury, Mo Chen suddenly realized something and looked at the severed locks again.
Tiny droplets of blood clung to the black strands. They were so fine that they would have been impossible to notice without close inspection.
And within that blood lingered the faint aura of a god.
It was neither the aura of an Evil God like him nor that of an artificial false god. It belonged to a true god, the kind that had vanished thousands of years ago.
“Who are you?” Mo Chen stared at Yun Jianyue as the Evil God’s Power gradually gathered in his left hand. The sinister energy filling the entire underground palace seemed to answer his call, rushing toward him and swirling around his body.
Finally able to breathe again, Yun Jianyue gulped down great lungfuls of air.
Then she grinned shamelessly. “Weren’t you the one who said I was your bride? Why are you asking who I am now? Hubby, don’t tell me you’ve got dementia.”
“Wait, you’re dressed like someone from ancient times, so you must’ve been dead for ages. I can’t call you ‘hubby.’ You wouldn’t understand.” Yun Jianyue cleared her throat and unleashed every ounce of skill she had cultivated over years of using an affectedly sweet voice. “My lord husband~”
The Evil God’s fist clenched.
Reason told him to first determine what exactly this woman was.
But the fury filling his chest continued to devour his rationality.
At last, the Evil God raised his left hand.
He did not care what this madwoman was. He was going to take her life right now!
