Chapter 97
Chapter 97
Xia Sheng said, “Where does your niece live? Let’s go take a look tonight.”
From Auntie Wang’s description, that thing probably only came out at night, so now was the perfect time to go.
Seeing Xia Sheng agree so readily, Auntie Wang was overjoyed. “Good, good, good. I’ll call my niece right now and have her send a car to pick us up later.”
After dinner, Auntie Wang’s niece had already driven the car downstairs.
Xia Sheng headed out with Auntie Wang. Auntie Wang glanced back at Fang Rong and said, “Little Fang, why don’t you come along too? You probably haven’t seen what your daughter can do yet, have you?”
Fang Rong truly had never seen Xia Sheng catch ghosts before. Figuring she had nothing to do at home anyway, she agreed and went downstairs with them.
Wang Xianyin waited downstairs for two minutes before she saw her aunt leading two people down from the building.
Her gaze swept over the two of them, and she subconsciously took the older Fang Rong to be the master her aunt had mentioned. She walked up to Fang Rong.
“Are you the Xiangu my aunt told me about?”
Fang Rong waved her hands. “No, the one who’ll be solving your problem is my daughter. I’m just an ordinary middle-aged woman. I don’t have any special abilities.”
Her daughter?
Wang Xianyin turned to look at Xia Sheng beside her. When she saw the girl’s young, baby-faced features, she couldn’t help but frown.
Last night, her aunt had praised this Little Celestial Master to the skies. Wang Xianyin had assumed the other party would be some Xiangu with real cultivation, but she had never expected it to be such a young girl.
Judging by her looks, this girl was probably still in school.
Wang Xianyin couldn’t help wondering if her aunt had made a mistake.
However, despite her doubts, the good manners she had been raised with kept her from showing her suspicion and distrust. Instead, she said politely, “I’m sorry. I mistook you for someone else just now.”
“It’s fine,” Xia Sheng replied casually.
Auntie Wang said, “Xianyin, where’s your car? Let the Little Celestial Master get in first.”
Wang Xianyin hesitated for a moment, then said, “Actually, why don’t we do this another day? I just remembered things are a little inconvenient at home tonight.”
That was an excuse to refuse Xia Sheng’s help. Auntie Wang had lived for so many years-how could she not hear what her niece really meant?
She said, “Xianyin, don’t look down on the Little Celestial Master just because she looks young. I’ve personally seen what she’s capable of.”
Wang Xianyin smiled politely. “Auntie, you’ve misunderstood. It’s not that I don’t believe in this Little Celestial Master’s abilities. It’s just that tonight really is inconvenient at my home. Let’s invite the Little Celestial Master over another day.”
Seeing that Wang Xianyin didn’t believe her, Auntie Wang immediately grew anxious, like a fangirl desperately trying to recommend her idol to someone.
She was just about to say something more to persuade her niece when Xia Sheng spoke. “Wang Xianyin, besides your current daughter, did you once have a son?”
At Xia Sheng’s words, Wang Xianyin froze slightly. Auntie Wang also frowned. “Little Celestial Master, did you calculate that wrong?
“Xianyin only has Nannan, one daughter. I keep in touch with her every year, and I’ve never seen her with a son.”
The Little Celestial Master had calculated matters about her daughter quite accurately that day. Why was she suddenly falling short when it came to her niece?
After Auntie Wang finished speaking, she turned to Wang Xianyin and said, “The Little Celestial Master probably didn’t get it right just now. Let her calculate again-”
“How did you know I once had a son?” Before Auntie Wang could finish, Wang Xianyin cut her off.
This time, it was Auntie Wang’s turn to freeze. She asked Wang Xianyin in surprise, “You have a son too? How come I’ve never heard about this? Where is the child?”
At the mention of that child, Wang Xianyin seemed to grow sorrowful, unsure where to begin.
Xia Sheng answered Auntie Wang’s question for her. “That child and Nannan were boy-girl twins. He died shortly after birth.
“Miss Wang and her husband never told outsiders about this, so it’s only natural that you never met the child, Auntie Wang.”
At the mention of her late child, Wang Xianyin felt heartbroken, but at the same time, a flicker of astonishment rose in her chest. She finally believed in Xia Sheng’s abilities and said guiltily, “I’m sorry, Little Celestial Master. I shouldn’t have doubted your skills just now.”
“It’s fine.” Xia Sheng knew very well that she looked far too young to inspire much confidence, so she didn’t take it to heart.
Auntie Wang held Wang Xianyin’s hand and comforted her for a while. Then she invited Xia Sheng and Fang Rong to get into the car with them.
Wang Xianyin’s home was in a villa district on the southern side of Capital City.
When they arrived, Fang Rong looked at the familiar surroundings, and her heart gave a heavy thud.
This villa district was where the Xia Family lived.
She had lived here for so many years. There was no way she could forget it.
She had finally managed to leave this area, yet she had never expected to return now.
Xia Sheng noticed her mother’s discomfort and reached out to hold her hand, saying gently, “Mom, I’m here.”
Feeling her daughter’s presence beside her, Fang Rong seemed to find her backbone all at once and nodded firmly.
In the past, she had been all alone, uneducated, without any background, and timid by nature.
Now that her daughter was at her side, she found a little more courage to face her past.
Auntie Wang looked at the two of them strangely. “What are you talking about?”
“Nothing,” Xia Sheng replied casually. “Let’s go inside first.”
Wang Xianyin led them into the villa. They had just finished changing shoes in the entryway when a tiny figure ran out and threw herself straight into Wang Xianyin’s arms, rubbing her head against Wang Xianyin’s waist.
“Mommy, why did you come home so late tonight?”
Hearing the little girl’s crisp voice, a smile appeared on Wang Xianyin’s exhausted face, which had been worn down by days of torment.
She rubbed the child’s head. “You haven’t been feeling well lately, so Mommy went to find a master to take a look at you.”
The little girl was wearing cartoon pajamas. She was rather thin, and her lips were a little pale, making her look sickly.
Only after hearing her mother say she had brought a master home did the little girl notice there were several people behind her mother.
She immediately let go of her mother’s waist and greeted Xia Sheng and the others politely. “Hello, Great-aunt, Auntie, pretty sister.”
After saying that, she even gave them a deep bow, as if she were taking a curtain call after a performance.
Auntie Wang was getting on in years, and the moment she saw a child, her heart melted. She laughed cheerfully and pulled the little girl into her arms.
“Nannan, it’s been so long since we last met. Did you miss your great-aunt?”
“I did.” The little girl was naturally affectionate. She wrapped her small arms around Auntie Wang’s neck and planted a kiss on her cheek.
After receiving a kiss from her grandniece, Auntie Wang beamed from ear to ear. “Our Nannan is still as lovable as ever.”
Auntie Wang played with Nannan in her arms for a while before turning to Xia Sheng. “Little Celestial Master, our Nannan hasn’t been well lately. Can you tell what’s causing it?”
