Chapter 126

“Xuanxuan-gege said he wanted to play a game with me. If he found me while he was It, he’d kill me.

“If I found him while I was It, then I’d kill him too.

“He won last time. Now I’ve become a ghost, so it’s my turn to catch him.

“I only came to find him so we could play a game. Why did you want to kill me? Why?”

Old Madam Sun didn’t answer his question at all. Her eyes were red, and she just kept repeating the same two words over and over: “Go die.”

Again and again, the peach wood sword stabbed through Haohao’s body. He felt as if even his soul were being torn into pieces.

Sensing the intense killing intent radiating from Old Madam Sun, hatred finally began to grow in his heart. Little by little, the whites of his eyes were swallowed up by an inky blackness.

“Grandma Sun, do you want to become a ghost too? Do you want to play a game with me too?

“Then how about I take you and Xuanxuan-gege with me, and we can all play together?

“Once you’ve both become ghosts, then it’ll be your turn to come catch me…”

Old Madam Sun was red-eyed with bloodlust by then, completely ignoring everything Haohao was saying.

Madam Sun, however, realized something was wrong and immediately shouted, “Mom, get back!”

But in the end, she was still a step too late.

The instant she cried out, the headless boy’s body, which had remained frozen in place this whole time, suddenly sprang into motion. Its sharp claws pierced straight through Old Madam Sun’s skull.

Blood streamed down from Old Madam Sun’s forehead in winding trails. Her eyes were wide open, and even in death they would not close. She fell rigidly to the floor.

Madam Sun’s face turned deathly pale with fright, and Xuanxuan, lying in the hospital bed, was so terrified he couldn’t even make a sound. He sat there like a wooden statue.

Back when Haohao had first revealed himself, Xuanxuan had already been scared speechless.

Now that he had just watched his grandmother’s head get torn open, he was trembling even harder.

Haohao watched Old Madam Sun collapse in front of him. He bent down, picked up the head that had fallen to the floor, pressed it back into place, then turned to look at Xuanxuan. The smile on his face was innocent and guileless, yet carried a strange, eerie edge.

“Xuanxuan-gege, I came to find you so we could play a game. This past month, it seemed like you couldn’t see me. Every time I tried to play with you, you’d forget me.

“Thanks to the Daoist uncle you found, I can finally meet you face-to-face.

“My body is so cold in the flower bed. Will you come keep me company?”

“No! Don’t come over here!” Xuanxuan let out a shrill scream, terrified by Haohao’s sinister words, and frantically shrank backward.

But the headboard and the wall were right behind him. There was nowhere for him to hide. He could only watch helplessly as Haohao walked toward him.

When Madam Sun saw Haohao trying to hurt her son, she immediately moved to shield the child behind her.

But before she could do anything, Xuanxuan shoved her out in front of him.

“Haohao, don’t kill me! Didn’t you want someone to play with you? Go find my mom! My mom loves playing games the most!”

Madam Sun had never expected Xuanxuan to push her out like that. Her face was full of shock and disbelief.

For more than ten years, she had been a full-time housewife, and her son had been the center of her life.

Back when she was pregnant, Xuanxuan had been diagnosed with XYY syndrome. Everyone around her had urged her to abort the child and try again for another one.

She couldn’t bear to give up the baby, so she had resolutely carried him to term and done everything she could to be good to him.

She had thought that as long as she treated him well and gave him the best education possible, then even a congenital genetic defect like XYY syndrome could surely be corrected.

But in the end, the child she had raised all these years, the child she had cherished in the palm of her hand, had not only killed someone, but in order to save his own life, had pushed out his own biological mother instead.
Madam Sun’s nose turned sour with emotion. Faced with death at this moment, she couldn’t feel even a trace of fear – only a chilling disappointment in her son.

Maybe she should never have let this child be born into this world.

Madam Sun closed her eyes and calmly accepted death.

Seeing his mother step in front of him, Xuanxuan couldn’t help but let out a sigh of relief.

But before he could finish exhaling, Haohao went around Madam Sun and grabbed his arm directly.

His nails dug deep into flesh. Xuanxuan let out a scream of pain, his eyes full of terror. “Liu Hao! Let go of me!”

Haohao tilted his head, his face full of confusion. “Xuanxuan-gege, so you can feel pain too?

“Before, when you called me a big idiot, cut my hand with a little knife, and sliced my flesh, it hurt so, so much too.

“But you never once let me go. I thought maybe you couldn’t feel pain.

“So what should I do? I still have so many little games I want to play with you.

“When you become a ghost, we’ll play together again…”

As he spoke, his other hand jabbed straight toward Xuanxuan’s eye.

Madam Sun turned around and saw her son lying on the hospital bed in a bloody mess, utterly lifeless.

“Xuanxuan!” Madam Sun shrieked and hurried over to check on him.

She reached out to feel for his breathing, only to find that he was no longer breathing.

Her whole body went limp, and she collapsed onto the floor, covering her face as she cried, unable to understand how things had come to this.

By now, a crowd of doctors and nurses had gathered outside the door, and everyone had seen the scene inside the room.

All of them were stunned. Someone pulled out a phone, wanting to record the horrifying scene, only to discover that the phone couldn’t capture Xuanxuan’s image at all. It could only see Old Madam Sun and Xuanxuan’s corpse.

Everyone was shocked. One of the more timid onlookers fainted on the spot.

The braver ones, trembling all over, took out their phones and immediately called the police.

By the time Xia Sheng arrived with Uncle Liu, the police had already reached the hospital.

The ward had been sealed off, and neither of them could get in.

Uncle Liu stood in the hallway and looked inside. Seeing Old Madam Sun and Xuanxuan dead so horribly, he felt no satisfaction at avenging his great hatred – only overwhelming grief.

So what if those two were dead? His son was never coming back.

Uncle Liu held back his tears and turned to ask Xia Sheng, “Little sir, is my son in there?”

After Haohao killed people, the spell the Old Daoist had cast on him weakened as well. His body turned transparent again, and ordinary people could no longer see him.

Xia Sheng nodded, then sensed a familiar aura approaching.

She turned to glance toward the end of the corridor and saw Shen Zhuoyang, captain of a subordinate squad under the Special Management Bureau, leading several people this way.

Seeing that, Xia Sheng lifted a hand and quickly drew Haohao into the Red String around her wrist.

Haohao had taken revenge for himself today, and Xia Sheng didn’t think he’d done anything wrong.

But from the authorities’ perspective, Haohao had killed people. In their eyes, that put him among the Fierce Ghosts, and he would definitely be exorcised.

She couldn’t let Shen Zhuoyang discover Haohao’s existence.

Shen Zhuoyang noticed Xia Sheng too and looked a little surprised that she would appear here. He walked straight over to her.

“Little Friend Xia, what brings you here as well? Did Master Quede hear there was trouble here involving Fierce Ghosts and send you over specifically to check on the situation?”
