Chapter 85

If Fang Rong and Auntie Wang hadn’t still been there, he probably would have asked the question weighing on his mind long ago.

He had been proud and aloof his entire life. Only in front of Xia Sheng did he ever feel the slightest bit unsure of himself.

When she heard him say he had only stopped by because he was passing through, Xia Sheng looked a little puzzled. “Isn’t your company in the opposite direction from my place if you’re coming from home?”

Shen Yanchen clearly hadn’t expected Xia Sheng to ask such a brutally straightforward question. He froze for a moment.

Auntie Wang, standing off to the side, burst out laughing. “What do you mean, passing through? The way I see it, this gentleman came here specifically to see our Little Celestial Master.

“Little Celestial Master, you’re so accurate when reading other people’s feelings. Who would’ve thought you’d be this slow when it comes to your own affairs?”

Only then did Xia Sheng belatedly realize something. She looked at Shen Yanchen and asked, “You came here specifically to see me?”

Shen Yanchen: “…”

Did such an embarrassing thing really have to be said out loud?

Wasn’t restraint and subtlety supposed to be a traditional Chinese virtue??

Before Shen Yanchen could speak, Fang Rong smiled and said to Auntie Wang, “Auntie Wang, you’ve misunderstood. Mr. Shen is Sheng’er’s elder. Their relationship isn’t like that.

“In terms of seniority, Mr. Shen would even have to call me big sister.”

Shen Yanchen: “…”

Auntie Wang’s gaze swept over the few of them, and she couldn’t help laughing. “You mother and daughter really are exactly alike.”

They could see other people’s feelings with perfect clarity, but when it came to their own family, they were completely muddled.

Fang Rong: “?”

Fang Rong didn’t quite understand what Auntie Wang meant, and Auntie Wang didn’t explain further.

After all, the Fang family’s daughter was only eighteen this year. Even though she was already in college, in her parents’ eyes, she was still a child. Fang Rong might very well oppose a relationship between the two young people, so Auntie Wang decided not to get involved.

Shen Yanchen also had no intention of telling Fang Rong about him and Xia Sheng for the time being. After all, the young lady was still rather cold toward him, and she didn’t seem as if she truly liked him. He wanted to wait until their relationship was more stable before telling both families.

After exchanging a few simple pleasantries with them, Shen Yanchen left.

Fang Rong vaguely sensed that something was off as well, but after thinking it over, she felt that someone of Shen Yanchen’s status, if he really liked Xia Sheng, probably wouldn’t act so furtively. So she didn’t take the matter to heart.

When Xia Sheng arrived at school and had just entered the classroom, she saw the class monitor standing at the lectern saying something.

She returned to her seat and sat down. Only then did she understand what the class monitor was talking about.

School had been in session for a while now, but aside from the few classes they attended together during the day, everyone basically spent the rest of their time busy with their own things. The relationships among the classmates were still fairly distant.

After discussing it with the counselor, the class monitor planned to organize a class dinner to help everyone get closer.

Ning Xi loved joining in on lively events, so she dragged Xia Sheng along to sign up with her.

Most of the students in the class agreed to go. Only a small handful couldn’t make it because they had other things to do.

Once the headcount was finalized, the class monitor began organizing a vote to choose a restaurant.

After one round of voting, the class monitor ultimately chose a buffet restaurant near the school as the gathering place.

Their class had more than fifty people. One wealthy classmate waved his hand and simply decided to book out the entire buffet restaurant.

Everyone in class knew that boy’s family was rich, so no one refused.

Ning Xi propped her face in her hands and gazed at Sun Yang with a lovestruck expression.

“Sun Yang looks way too handsome when he’s spending money.”
Xia Sheng teased, “So he isn’t handsome normally?”

“He is, but he’s at his most handsome when he’s spending money.” After saying that, Ning Xi lowered her voice, eager to gossip. “Sun Yang may not have a family background like Shen Ze’s, but in our department, he’s definitely one of the richest and best-looking guys around.

“And he has one incredibly rare quality. Do you know what it is?”

Xia Sheng played along. “What?”

Ning Xi said, “He doesn’t care that much about looks. He cares more about an interesting soul. He’s completely different from those otakus who only like big boobs and round butts.

“I heard that during military training, he got together with a really ordinary-looking girl from the class next door.

“I’m not saying that girl is bad or that she doesn’t deserve him, okay? It’s just that from a worldly perspective, this really is a real-life Cinderella and Prince Charming situation.”

Xia Sheng wasn’t very interested in other people’s gossip. After Ning Xi finished, she merely smiled and let it pass.

But when her gaze swept over Sun Yang’s face, it paused ever so slightly. Then she couldn’t help frowning.

Seeing her staring at Sun Yang, Ning Xi teased, “Why are you staring at him? Don’t tell me you’ve fallen for him?”

“No.” Xia Sheng shook her head and didn’t explain further.

She had simply sensed the presence of a Gu worm on Sun Yang.

However, that Gu worm wouldn’t cause any harm to his body, so she had no intention of meddling.

During the noon break, Xia Sheng and Ning Xi went home together for lunch.

As soon as they arrived downstairs, they saw a middle-aged couple in wheelchairs waiting there as if for someone.

A young man stood behind them. Xia Sheng recognized at a glance that these were Wu Zhaodi’s family members.

The young man standing there was probably Wu Zhaodi’s younger brother, and as for the two in wheelchairs, they should be Wu Zhaodi’s parents.

Noticing her arrival, the young man looked her up and down in displeasure and snapped, “So you’re the one who used evil arts to harm my parents? Girls these days are getting more and more vicious!

“Hurry up and undo the marriage contract between my parents and the Ghost Bridegroom, or I won’t let this go!”

Younger Brother Wu hadn’t originally wanted to get involved in his parents’ affairs. It was just that his girlfriend had told him that if he acted like an unfilial son, she would break up with him and refuse to marry him.

Afraid his girlfriend might really leave him, Younger Brother Wu went to the hospital to visit his injured, bedridden parents. That was when he heard from them about the Ghost Bridegroom coming after them.

Originally, the Ghost Bridegroom’s target had been Wu Zhaodi. Now that he had suddenly gone after the Wu parents, someone must have altered the contents of the marriage contract.

Younger Brother Wu asked some people in the underground circles to look into who Wu Zhaodi had been in contact with recently. It was easy enough to find Xia Sheng’s identity, and he brought his parents straight over.

Unlike Younger Brother Wu, Father Wu and Mother Wu became wildly excited the moment they saw Xia Sheng. They quickly pushed their wheelchairs toward her.

Father Wu even knelt directly on the ground. “Master! Little Immortal! Please, save me! My wife and I are already so old. How can we go be wives to that Ghost Bridegroom!?

“These past few days, that Ghost Bridegroom has entered my dreams every night, pulled down my pants, and reamed me. I’m about to be driven insane by him. Please, save me!”

Hearing Father Wu’s words, Ning Xi couldn’t help bursting into laughter. “He comes into your dreams at night to ream you? This Ghost Bridegroom has pretty unique tastes!”

Xia Sheng had told Ning Xi about Wu Zhaodi’s situation, so Ning Xi had also guessed the identities of the people in front of them. She had no sympathy for Father Wu and Mother Wu’s plight. If anything, she felt they had brought it entirely on themselves.
