The two of them made their way unimpeded to the private room on the top floor. The moment they pushed the door open, they saw a circle of people seated inside.
With just one glance, Xia Sheng noticed the man reclining on the main sofa.
Shen Yanchen was dressed in a finely tailored suit. A few buttons of his shirt had been undone, leaving his collar slightly open and revealing his sharp, beautifully defined collarbones.
A faint flush stained his pale skin. Half-reclined on the sofa, he seemed to have had too much to drink and was resting there with his eyes closed.
Jiang Shaobai was still off to the side, drinking and chatting with the others. When he saw them, he smiled and called out, “Little sister-in-law, are you here to take Yanchen home?”
Xia Sheng gave a mild “Mm” and walked over to Shen Yanchen, gently shaking his shoulder. “Uncle Nine, wake up. We’re going home.”
Shen Yanchen kept his eyes closed and gave no response, as if he were already dead drunk.
Jiang Shaobai rose to his feet. “Little sister-in-law, Yanchen drank a little too much tonight. Let me help you carry him downstairs.”
Xia Sheng replied, “No need. I’ll just carry him down myself.”
With that, Xia Sheng bent down, wrapped one arm around Shen Yanchen’s shoulders, slipped her other hand beneath his knees, and lifted him straight into a bridal carry.
Shen Yanchen was an exceptionally tall man. In Xia Sheng’s arms, it looked like a little fox was carrying a big brown bear.

Pretending to be drunk was actually a trick Jiang Shaobai had taught him. He wanted to use being drunk as an excuse to test whether Xia Sheng would do anything to him while he was asleep.

Xia Sheng said, “I’m not going back tonight. Can’t I stay here with you?”
