Chapter 102
Chapter 102
The two of them hadn’t chatted for long before the taxi arrived.
On the way back, Fang Rong got a call from Jiang Zhongqing, asking why she and Xia Sheng weren’t home.
Fang Rong said, “Sheng’er took on a job, so I came out with her. We’re on our way back now.”
After that, she asked, “Are you near our place?”
Jiang Zhongqing said, “Yeah. I was away on a business trip the past few days and just got back tonight. I brought some gifts to see you two, but I didn’t expect you to be out.”
Fang Rong said, “We should be home in about twenty minutes. Just wait a little.”
“Okay.”
After chatting briefly, they ended the call.
The space inside the car wasn’t large, and since Auntie Wang was sitting close to Fang Rong, she had heard almost the entire conversation. She couldn’t help smiling. “Mr. Jiang really does care about you. He just got back tonight and came straight over to see you without even stopping to rest.”
Fang Rong said, “Mr. Jiang is probably here for Sheng’er. Earlier, Sheng’er asked him to help find someone to test some medicine. He’s probably here because of that.”
Auntie Wang teased, “I’m afraid his real interest isn’t the medicine.”
Fang Rong’s face reddened. Not knowing how to explain it, she simply stayed quiet.
When they returned to the residential complex, they had only just reached the building when they spotted a tall figure standing by the roadside not far away.
The man was tall and straight-backed, standing as upright as a pine.
Though he was already past forty, his bearing was still clear and refined, with that mature charm unique to middle-aged men.
Auntie Wang glanced at Jiang Zhongqing and couldn’t help praising him. “Some people really do age beautifully. I never thought that saying worked for men too.”
Then, as if remembering something, she asked Fang Rong, “I heard Xiao Jiang used to be in the military, right? Is his stamina especially good?
“Old Li never exercises, and now that he’s getting older, he’s got no energy at night at all.
“Xiao Jiang looks like he’s in great shape. You’re really lucky.”
After hearing Auntie Wang’s words, Fang Rong’s face turned even redder. She instinctively glanced at her daughter, then whispered to Auntie Wang, “Sister Wang, the child’s here. Don’t say things like that.”
Auntie Wang laughed. “Don’t worry. Kids these days mature early. What is there they don’t know?”
Even so, Fang Rong still felt embarrassed bringing up that sort of thing in front of her daughter.
As they spoke, Jiang Zhongqing had already walked over.
He was carrying two gift boxes. After he came over, he first politely greeted Auntie Wang before turning to Fang Rong.
“I heard your hometown is A City. I happened to be there on a business trip this time, so I brought back some local specialties. See if you like them.”
Fang Rong took the things from his hands and quietly thanked him.
Auntie Wang ribbed him, “Mr. Jiang, you came all this way so late at night just to bring something to Little Fang?”
Fang Rong had already been feeling awkward, and after hearing Auntie Wang say that, she wanted nothing more than to find a hole to crawl into.
She didn’t want Jiang Zhongqing to feel uncomfortable. Just as she was about to remind Auntie Wang that some things were better said in private, she heard Jiang Zhongqing answer frankly, “Mm. I haven’t seen her in days, so I came by to see her.”
“You were already thinking about seeing her after just a few days apart?” The smile in Auntie Wang’s eyes deepened. “Do you have feelings for our Little Fang?”
“Sister Wang!” Before Jiang Zhongqing could speak, Fang Rong called out to Auntie Wang with a red face. “Don’t you still have to go do your square dancing? If you don’t get over there now, it’ll probably be over soon, so you’d better hurry along first.”
Auntie Wang could tell Fang Rong was just embarrassed. She chuckled a few more times but didn’t tease her any further. “I really should be going. I won’t interrupt your time alone anymore.”
Before leaving, Auntie Wang shot Xia Sheng a meaningful look.
Xia Sheng understood exactly what she meant. After Auntie Wang left, she said to her mother, “Mom, I still need to see Uncle Nine about something tonight, so I’ll be heading out first.”
Seeing that Xia Sheng was leaving too, Fang Rong quickly said, “Sheng’er, you don’t have to go. There’s nothing going on between me and your Uncle Jiang.”
The moment she said that, Jiang Zhongqing’s expression dimmed slightly, though he didn’t say anything.
Xia Sheng raised a brow. “Then why does it look to me like your Marriage Thread is already connected? Under normal circumstances, with things between you two at this stage, you should already be dating by now.”
Only then did Fang Rong remember that her daughter was a little fortune-teller. There was no way the matter between her and Jiang Zhongqing could be hidden from her.
In truth, the last time Jiang Zhongqing came to their house, their relationship had already been settled. It was just that Fang Rong had been too embarrassed to tell her daughter.
Now that Xia Sheng had figured it out on her own, Fang Rong could no longer keep it from her. Uneasy, she asked, “Sheng’er, if Mom suddenly finds you a stepfather, will you be upset?”
The reason she hadn’t told Xia Sheng over the past few days that she and Jiang Zhongqing had started dating was because she was afraid her daughter wouldn’t be able to accept it.
After all, she was already in her forties. At her age, still acting like some young girl and talking about romance-if the older generation heard about it, they’d definitely call her shameless and improper.
She was worried her daughter might think the same way.
“You and Mr. Jiang are fated to be together, so there’s nothing for me to have trouble accepting,” Xia Sheng said sincerely and calmly. “If anything, I’m happy you’ve found someone to spend your life with.”
Her mother’s first half of life had been far too bitter. Now that she had finally found a good man, Xia Sheng naturally wouldn’t object.
Seeing that Xia Sheng really didn’t seem to mind, Fang Rong secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
Xia Sheng continued, “I’m leaving now. I won’t stay here and play third wheel.
“I won’t be coming back at all tonight, so whatever you two want to do, feel free.”
Fang Rong thought her daughter was hinting at something and said with a red face, “Your Uncle Jiang and I haven’t gotten to that stage yet.”
Xia Sheng looked puzzled. “What stage?”
She had only been thinking of going to Shen Yanchen to absorb a bit more Baleful Qi. She really wasn’t planning on coming back tonight.
How come what her mom was thinking seemed completely different from what she meant?
After hearing Xia Sheng’s response, Fang Rong realized she had overthought things, which only made her more embarrassed. She hurriedly said, “It’s nothing. Just go already.”
Though Xia Sheng was still confused, she didn’t say anything else. She directly used a Teleportation Talisman and vanished from the spot.
After Xia Sheng left, Jiang Zhongqing took Fang Rong’s hand, his voice gentle and warm. “Let’s go upstairs.”
Blushing, Fang Rong nodded and went upstairs with Jiang Zhongqing.
…
Xia Sheng teleported straight to Shen Yanchen’s house. She went upstairs and searched the study, but didn’t see him anywhere.
A little puzzled, she went across the hall to find Shen Ze, and only then learned that Shen Yanchen had a business engagement tonight and probably wouldn’t be back until very late.
After answering, Shen Ze couldn’t help asking curiously, “Little Celestial Master, are you and my Uncle Nine officially dating now?”
Xia Sheng nodded.
After getting a definite answer from her, Shen Ze clicked his tongue.
His Uncle Nine really was a beast. He’d actually made a move on the Little Celestial Master.
Looks like the thing about the two of them kissing on the balcony last time was true too.
