Chapter 90
Chapter 90
That afternoon, He Qian rented an apartment for He Yuchuan. From then on, it would be their secret space.
After renting the place, the two went to a mall to pick out some daily necessities and bedding, filling four large bags.
Back at the apartment, they called for a cleaning service, stuffed the bedding sets into the washing machine, and put everything away. Finally exhausted, they collapsed onto the sofa.
He Yuchuan opened a can of Red Bull, drank a little, and wiped his mouth. “Sis, why did you leave behind a face mask when we left?”
He Qian tucked her hair behind her ear. “We can’t be the only ones working hard. They need some kind of chemical reaction between themselves.”
He Qian’s original intention was to make those two women “go at each other’s throats.”
She didn’t know that while this face mask didn’t directly let Huang Yuanrui discover Zhang Qiong’s identity, it acted like a catalyst in her divorce process with Qin Song.
As she and He Yuchuan were unpacking the mall purchases, Huang Yuanrui was fishing that face mask out of the trash can and slapping it onto Qin Song’s face.
While she and He Yuchuan were resting on the sofa with drinks, Hu Heng was frantically apologizing to Qin Song and Huang Yuanrui over the phone, lying that Zhang Qiong was his own lover.
The chain reaction triggered by this face mask was like pouring a crate of gasoline onto a small flame-it ignited all of Huang Yuanrui’s long-standing anxiety.
She returned to her small southern town for just one day before immediately moving to City A to settle down for good.
One day, He Yuchuan called He Qian over to the apartment and handed her a Glacier Ashtray.
He Qian: “This… did you buy a replica online?”
He Yuchuan: “I bought a replica and had a friend use it as a template to make an identical one.”
He Qian: “So where’s the listening device?”
He Yuchuan tapped the ashtray. “Inside.”
He Qian carefully held the “ashtray” and examined it. “Will it work?”
He Yuchuan smiled. “You don’t have to be so careful. This thing is drop-proof.”
With that, he took the “ashtray” and threw it on the floor.
He Qian gasped, but the “ashtray” only spun twice on the floor before stopping, completely intact.
He Qian: “It’s not glass?”
He Yuchuan shook his head. “Glass breaks too easily. What if that dog drops it by accident? I had my friend make it from special materials; it’s very sturdy.”
He Qian: “Then… what about charging?”
He Yuchuan: “Once charged, it can last over 200 days on standby.” He shrugged. “We probably won’t need it that long.”
He Qian wanted to ask more, but He Yuchuan waved her off. “Don’t ask so many questions. Let’s just use it first.”
The next day at noon, He Qian took this “ashtray” and a bunch of food to Qin Song’s office.
While Qin Song went to the restroom, she quickly took it out of her bag and placed it on Qin Song’s desk, then put his original ashtray into her bag.
As it turned out, He Yuchuan really was skilled in these underhanded tricks.
Through this “ashtray” he’d given her, He Qian gathered quite a bit of information within just a few days.
She heard that after work, when the office was empty, Qin Song and that woman had many private “encounters” in the office.
She also heard that woman’s name: Zhang Qiong-though Qin Song called her “Sis” when they were alone. From their conversations, He Qian deduced that her family’s financial situation seemed not great, and her relationship with her husband was poor.
She also heard Qin Song complaining to Hu Heng about the Southern Girl-whose name was Huang Yuanrui.
So Hu Heng had known about Qin Song’s affair all along.
He Qian thought of Hu Heng’s simple, honest-looking demeanor and felt a pang of irony.
But none of that was the most important information.
The most crucial intel was what Qin Song complained about: he said Huang Yuanrui had moved to City A for good and was staying in room 302 every day.
He also said Huang Yuanrui was a road hazard, and he’d grudgingly given her a Volvo to drive.
He Qian immediately relayed this news along with the Volvo’s license plate number to He Yuchuan.
He Qian: “Is this good or bad?”
He Yuchuan: “Of course it’s good. Now that she’s here, forced marriage can’t be far behind.”
He Qian: “Then I need to hurry and go to 302 again.”
He Yuchuan parked his car at the exit of Tianfeng Hotel’s underground garage for an entire day, but never saw the Volvo come out.
The next day, He Yuchuan staked out again for a full day, but still didn’t see it.
He Yuchuan called He Qian: “Sis, are you sure she’s here? I haven’t seen her go out for two whole days. Is she a pig, so lazy!”
He Qian: “I’m sure she’s here!”
He Yuchuan said helplessly: “Then I’ll keep watching tomorrow… I refuse to believe she can stay inside for three days!”
Persistence paid off; on the third day, He Yuchuan finally spotted Huang Yuanrui.
She was driving Qin Song’s Volvo, wearing a sun hat and a UV face mask, with only her eyes visible.
He Yuchuan immediately called He Qian: “Sis, she’s driving out, come quick!”
He Qian: “Okay, I’m on my way. You follow her car!”
He Yuchuan hung up and started trailing Huang Yuanrui’s car.
He was a good driver, always keeping two or three cars between them so she wouldn’t notice him in her rearview mirror.
He Qian grabbed her car keys and headed out, but then thought better of it, put the keys down, and hailed a ride on her phone.
Arriving at the hotel, she skillfully entered 302 and began to inspect the room.
Huang Yuanrui had come to settle down, so she’d brought a ton of stuff, making the room fully furnished and cluttered.
Suddenly, He Qian spotted a familiar item-on the bathroom counter sat a Glacier Ashtray.
