Chapter 79

He Qian said calmly, “What have I lied about? As you can see, I don’t have to work now, and I have my own family. I cook every day and take care of them. It’s a little plain, but overall, it’s not bad.”

He Yuchuan said, “I may not have made much of myself career-wise, but after all these years out in society, I’ve made a lot of friends and met all kinds of people. I might not be good at much, but I’m especially good at reading people.”

He Qian said, “And who are you so good at reading?”

He Yuchuan said, “You. And your husband.”

He Qian fell silent and turned to look out the window.

He Yuchuan continued, “I know you live in a villa now and drive a nice car. But I can still feel that you aren’t happy. Women are easy to read. Whether they’re happy or not, you can tell just by looking at their eyes.”

He Qian still said nothing. She only looked at him quietly.

He Yuchuan said, “Your husband has been bullying you.”

He Qian said, “No.”

He Yuchuan said, “Then your in-laws have been bullying you.”

He Qian said, “They do give me plenty to worry about, but I haven’t really made a big deal out of it.”

He Yuchuan said, “When you two argue, has he ever hit you?”

He Qian said, “Never.”

He Yuchuan said, “Then he’s cheating on you.”

He Qian set the cup in her hand down heavily on the table. “Don’t talk nonsense!”

He Yuchuan said, “You’re panicking.”

He Qian sighed and lowered her head.

After a long while, she lifted her head again, tears glimmering in her eyes. “And if he is? What can I do about it?”

Two months ago, Qin Song had been running himself ragged over all sorts of matters every day. A blister had formed on his lip, and several large, red pimples had broken out across his back.

He Qian went to the supermarket and bought honeysuckle, chrysanthemum, and jasmine, then brewed Qin Song a pot of three-flower tea to clear heat and detoxify the body.

Qin Song was so busy he had no time to drink it. When he came home, he buried his head in his rice, and once he was done eating, he said he was exhausted and sleepy, then collapsed into bed.

He Qian looked at the tea that had gone cold and poured herself a few cups instead.

The next day, Qin Song went to work. He Qian brewed another pot for him and filled an enormous thermos with it.

Carrying the thermos, He Qian went to Qin Song’s company, but Qin Song was not there.

She took out her phone and called Qin Song, but the line was busy.

He Qian thought for a moment, then went to Tianfeng Hotel.

He Qian had never been to Tianfeng Hotel before. No one here even knew that the woman holding the thermos was their boss’s wife.

She walked into the lobby, sat down on a sofa, and was about to call Qin Song again.

At the front desk were two young women, one tall and one short. The tall one was busy issuing invoices, while the shorter one was clumsily opening a package with a utility knife.

The tall one asked the shorter one, “Hey, where’s Manager Hu? I’ve got a whole stack of forms here that need his signature!”

The shorter one said, “He probably went to put the aromatherapy diffuser in 302. I don’t think he’s in his office.”

The tall one said, “Oh my god! They’re adding another aromatherapy diffuser to 302?”

The shorter one rolled her eyes. “President Qin is particular, that’s all.”

The tall one slipped the invoices in her hand into an envelope and asked, gossiping, “I started here late, so I still don’t know what 302 looks like inside… Have you ever been to 302?”

The shorter one said, “I’d like to, but that’s President Qin’s private territory. Who would dare go in and look around without his permission?”

After hearing that, He Qian assumed 302 was Qin Song’s private office.

She didn’t really understand why Qin Song would leave the office area unused and instead clear out a room on the third floor to use as an office.

She figured that if Qin Song wasn’t at the company, perhaps he was in 302.

He Qian took the elevator up to the third floor and followed the signs to find 302.

When she was almost there, she saw Hu Heng walking out of a room. His back was to her as he headed forward, his arms piled full of cardboard boxes and foam packaging.

She vaguely saw the words for some brand of aromatherapy diffuser printed on the packaging.

It seemed Hu Heng had just put an aromatherapy diffuser in 302 and was now going out to throw away the packaging.

He Qian was just about to call out and greet him when Hu Heng turned a corner with the boxes in his arms and disappeared. He had probably gone to the stairwell to find a large trash bin.

Curious, He Qian walked up to the door of 302 and discovered that Hu Heng had not closed it behind him when he left.

Of course. At the time, he hadn’t had a third hand free to pull the door shut.

He Qian pushed the door open and went inside. She froze.

This was not an office at all. It was a meticulously renovated guest room.

The room was decorated in an overall European light-luxury style. A cream-colored plush carpet covered the floor, most of the furniture was rose gold, and in the very center stood an enormous French-style, hand-carved solid-wood princess bed.

There wasn’t just an aromatherapy diffuser here. There was also an oven, a microwave, an electric massage chair, Bluetooth speakers…

He Qian walked into the bathroom and took one look, only to be shocked all over again.

Even the bathroom in this room was tiled in pale pink. The mirror was shaped like Hello Kitty, with a beauty light attached.

The toilet here was not an ordinary toilet either. It was a Kohler smart toilet.

Even the smart toilet in He Qian’s own home was not this expensive.

There was a large bathtub in the bathroom, and the storage rack beside it was filled with bottles and jars: Diptyque scented candles, Jo Malone body wash, a Kérastase Caviar Hair Care Set, Chanel Body Lotion, and bath bombs in all sorts of colors and shapes…

This place was practically a little princess’s room!

He Qian didn’t understand why Qin Song would decorate this room like this. It certainly was not his office. Then why had the young woman at the front desk called it “President Qin’s private territory”?
