Chapter 9

Time flew by, and Huang Yuanrui had already been with Qin Song for two years.

During these two years, Qin Song treated Huang Yuanrui better and better.

When he was free, he would fly to see her once a week; when he was busy, it was once every two weeks.

Occasionally, Qin Song would take her on trips. They went mountain climbing, diving, and even skiing and horseback riding together.

Every year for Valentine’s Day, Qixi Festival, her birthday, and even Children’s Day and Women’s Day, Huang Yuanrui would punctually receive flowers and gifts ordered by Qin Song.

Her jewelry box was already full, so she bought a larger one, and then that one filled up too.

The number of designer bags in her closet also grew. She bought an acrylic display cabinet online and lined up over a dozen bags inside.

Qin Song rarely took the initiative to send Huang Yuanrui money, but every time she asked for it, he would transfer it immediately.

Monthly rent, beauty salon memberships, hyaluronic acid injections… these were all standard reasons. Qin Song would usually transfer anywhere from three to five thousand, or even ten to twenty thousand yuan.

Huang Yuanrui had also used some rather outrageous excuses, such as her mother needing surgery that cost eighty or a hundred thousand at a time, and Qin Song would still transfer the money.

To Qin Song, these were all trivial matters he didn’t care to quibble over.

Later, Huang Yuanrui enrolled in driving school. She failed the first subject once, the second subject twice, and the third subject once before finally, through sheer struggle, scraping by to get her driver’s license.

She wanted a white Porsche.

Qin Song thought about it and bought it for her.

A car was fine, but he held off on a house for now. Qin Song was a bit worried that if he gave her too much money at once, he would no longer be able to control her.

Huang Yuanrui was well-behaved and docile about 70% of the time, but the other 30% was spent being difficult and throwing tantrums.

Qin Song would get very annoyed when she acted out, but he always persisted in coaxing her back into a good mood, never letting her stay angry overnight.

Once she was appeased, Huang Yuanrui would always nestle in his arms and weakly admit her faults. “Hubby, you’ve worked so hard. Little girls all have a bit of a temper; thank you for putting up with me.”

In Huang Yuanrui’s eyes, Qin Song was not only wealthy but also willing to spend time with her.

What is love? Love is a rich person’s time and an ordinary person’s money.

Huang Yuanrui had everything now.

In fact, when Huang Yuanrui first met Qin Song, she had three boyfriends.

Not that she had *had* three boyfriends in the past, but rather: she. had. three. boyfriends. at. the. same. time.

For our purposes, let’s call them Lao Da, Lao Er, and Lao San.

Lao Da was a Northerner, just like Qin Song. He was in his thirties and had a wife and son.

He had a great temperament-gentle and patient-and looked a bit like the actor Tian Yu. Unfortunately, he wasn’t very capable in the bedroom.

He and Huang Yuanrui had started out passionately for a while, but eventually, they settled into a long-distance relationship between the North and South, seeing each other only two or three times a year.

Huang Yuanrui didn’t even know why he insisted on staying with her, because even during those few visits, they didn’t always have sex.

The reason Huang Yuanrui could comfortably lie around at home without studying or working was partly because Lao Da served as her financial source.

She made sure to message Lao Da every day, sharing snippets of her life-some real, some fake-radiating sunshine and positive energy, and collecting her “salary” once a month.

She didn’t know how to cook at all, nor did she know how to arrange flowers.

Huang Yuanrui felt that spending time cooking was a severe waste of life, and flower arranging was an even stupider activity. She didn’t just dislike animals; she didn’t like flowers either.

She had a group chat with her best friends, which included two other girls: Nian Gao and Xixi.

When she wanted to send Lao Da photos of cooking to show off her domestic side, she would ask Nian Gao to share some cooking photos in the group. When she wanted to show Lao Da that she was cultivating her mind with flower arrangements, she would have Xixi send over her latest creations from her floral design class.

Then there was Lao Er.

Lao Er was Huang Yuanrui’s classmate from vocational college. His family owned a small food factory that mainly produced jam-filled cookies. He was actually quite tall, but he couldn’t be called handsome, and he was very dim-witted.

It was impossible for Huang Yuanrui to marry him. If a friend asked what her husband’s family did and she said “they make jam cookies,” it would be ridiculous and hilarious. She was very competitive and would never allow such a conversation to happen.

However, Lao Er was a devoted follower of Huang Yuanrui. Just as Qin Song had once chased Ding Wan like a dog, Lao Er had spent his years in vocational college chasing Huang Yuanrui like a dog.

Back in school, Huang Yuanrui liked chatting and partying with all sorts of boys, and she enjoyed the petty schemes and cliquishness among the girls, as well as the gossip and arguments. Lao Er knew all of this.

He thought it was impressive.

He worshipped Huang Yuanrui, believing her to be a girl with strong opinions and wisdom.

Huang Yuanrui, on the other hand, considered him a fool.

She didn’t allow him to ask her out; she only allowed herself to summon him.

When she had a craving, she’d call him to treat her to a meal; when a new movie was released, she’d have him take her to the cinema.

Since she couldn’t see Lao Da year-round anyway, Huang Yuanrui wasn’t about to live her life in loneliness, so having Lao Er around for company was decent enough.

But whenever Lao Er wanted to come over to her place for a bit, she would politely decline.

“That wouldn’t be right. My mom said a girl should stay pure before marriage. I have to cherish my reputation.”

Hearing such words, Lao Er liked Huang Yuanrui even more.

Lao Da and Lao Er, though one was distant and the other was stupid, were fortunately stable and tolerant.

Both of their personalities were as steady as an old dog. As long as Huang Yuanrui didn’t do anything too outrageous, these two relationships remained as wide and smooth as an asphalt road.

Lao San was different. Lao San really gave Huang Yuanrui a headache.
