Chapter 18

Qin Song felt a sudden chill on his face. Something wet and cold had been slapped onto him, and a bitter-sweet slime seemed to have smeared into his mouth.

He reached out, ripped the object off, and looked closely. It was a used face mask.

Huang Yuanrui was shaking with rage. “Who have you been letting stay in my room? That Guest Room Manager from today?”

Qin Song wiped the slippery liquid from his face and tossed the mask into the trash can, looking at Huang Yuanrui in confusion. “Which Guest Room Manager?”

Huang Yuanrui let out a cold sneer. “Give me your phone.”

Qin Song hesitated. “What are you doing?”

Huang Yuanrui snatched the phone from his hand and dialed Hu Heng’s number.

Qin Song’s palms began to sweat.

“Good evening, Manager Hu. This is Huang Yuanrui.”

Hu Heng answered, “Yuanrui? Is there something in the room that wasn’t cleaned properly?”

Huang Yuanrui replied, “Manager Hu, I haven’t been here for a month, yet I just found a used face mask in the trash. You’re not going to tell me that you were the one wearing this mask this afternoon, are you?”

Hu Heng’s brain felt like it was about to short-circuit. He truly had no way to explain why a Guest Room Manager would be wearing a face mask while fixing a toilet.

After a five-second hesitation, Hu Heng asked, “Yuanrui, is Old Qin with you?”

“He is,” Huang Yuanrui said.

Hu Heng let out a sigh. “Since you’re both there, I’ll come clean… Old Qin, Yuanrui, I’m sorry. That Guest Room Manager-I wasn’t going to hire her after the interview at first, but we exchanged contact info… You both know I’m in my thirties and have been single for a long time… One thing led to another, and we started seeing each other… You know how it is… That’s why I hired her later…”

Huang Yuanrui interrupted him. “I don’t care if you’re seeing some old hag, but why was she using a face mask in my room?”

Hu Heng stammered, “Yuanrui… I wanted to look good in front of her… I told her I was the boss of this hotel… I didn’t even mention that Old Qin is the real Lao Da… I’ve been putting on an act… She wasn’t feeling well today but insisted on coming to work, so I told her I’d find her a room to rest in… I just… I…”

Qin Song began shouting, “Are you kidding me?! So you put her in my Ruirui’s room? Do you have a death wish, Hu? Has a donkey kicked you in the head? Don’t you know 302 was specially renovated for Ruirui? I even made sure the bathwater smells like roses! I put in all that effort for Ruirui, not for your old woman to stay in!”

Huang Yuanrui said nothing, watching Qin Song’s expression intently.

Hu Heng shouted back, “Old Qin! This is the first and last time! I’ll fire her tomorrow, and I guarantee she’ll never step foot in Tianfeng Hotel again! Yuanrui, I’m truly sorry!”

Qin Song wasn’t done venting. “Stop acting like a big shot and pretending to be something you’re not! And that woman of yours! ‘Not feeling well’ my ass! If she was sick, did she really have the energy to do a face mask in Ruirui’s bathroom? And she didn’t even throw away the trash? Is she trying to provoke me? Hilarious! Messing with Ruirui is like hitting me where it hurts most! Believe it or not, I’ll make sure she can’t find a job in all of City A by tomorrow!”

Huang Yuanrui stood with her hands on her hips, listening to them argue for a while before waving her hand. “Enough. It’s the middle of the night. You two can scream at each other tomorrow. Hu Heng, this whole thing disgusts me. You let some Old Madwoman sleep in my room just so you could get laid? Don’t you know I’m a germaphobe? And that Old Madwoman actually had the nerve to lie to my face and say she was fixing the toilet…”

Qin Song rubbed Huang Yuanrui’s back soothingly as he hung up the phone for her. “Calm down, Ruirui. Don’t be angry. I had no idea about this. That grandson of a bitch is going to be the death of me! I’ll have someone disinfect this entire room tomorrow!”

Huang Yuanrui lay down, still fuming. “Just thinking about her sleeping in my room makes my skin crawl. I don’t even want to sleep in this bed. I’d rather sleep on the floor.”

Qin Song pulled her onto him. “Fine, fine. You sleep on top of me tonight, okay? We won’t even touch the sheets. You just lie on me.”

Huang Yuanrui finally cracked a smile. “You’re not allowed to touch the sheets either, or you’ll be dirty too. You sleep on me.”

Qin Song flipped over, pinning her down. “Oh, look at you thinking of everything. Then you sleep on me, and I’ll sleep on you. We’ll spend the whole night rolling around in each other’s arms like a perpetual motion machine, how about that?”

Huang Yuanrui giggled and climbed back on top of him.

…

After Huang Yuanrui fell asleep, Qin Song quickly sent a WeChat message to Hu Heng.

*Brothers for life. For real.*

Hu Heng replied: *Screw off!*

Qin Song turned off his phone and stared blankly at the ceiling.

He felt that Huang Yuanrui had changed.

He didn’t know when it started, but she had become shrill, bitter, and full of hostility. She would start screaming at the slightest disagreement, her emotions completely unstable. She was no longer the cute, feisty little kitten she used to be.

Out of habit, he could still force himself to coax her, but that momentum would eventually run out. He didn’t know how much longer he could keep it up.

Compared to Zhang Qiong, Huang Yuanrui really didn’t have many virtues left.

He flew to see her twice a month, spending money, energy, and time on her. And what did she bring him?

Coquettishness, crying, tantrums, screaming, and tonight’s farce, which had even forced an honest man like Hu Heng to become a dramatic actor.

Qin Song stared with wide eyes, beginning to calculate whether there was any point in continuing with Huang Yuanrui.

Huang Yuanrui, who was supposed to be fast asleep, opened her eyes in the darkness and glared intensely at Qin Song.
