Chapter 50
Chapter 50
She stood up and headed to the sink to clear the dishes, intentionally clattering the silverware against the bowls to make as much noise as possible.
Qin Song acted as if he hadn’t heard a thing. He didn’t even lift his head, staring at his phone with single-minded focus.
A surge of fury flared up inside Huang Yuanrui.
Even though she had already mentally prepared herself-and Qin Song’s reaction proved they had indeed broken up, which should have made her happy-seeing him so listless over losing Zhang Qiong, to the point of completely ignoring her, still left her exceptionally incensed.
She wanted Zhang Qiong to not only break up with Qin Song but to ensure it was a “painless” separation. The fact that Qin Song was even slightly heartbroken over that woman felt like a thorn stuck in her throat.
Huang Yuanrui regretted being too hasty. She had simply instructed Zhang Qiong to break up with him, but she hadn’t told her how to do it “correctly.”
She felt she should have told Zhang Qiong to fabricate a reason, like claiming she was having an affair or that she was going back to her ex-husband to rekindle their romance. She should have made Qin Song hate her, resent her, and feel disgusted at the mere thought of her.
But now, she had no idea what excuse Zhang Qiong had used. Qin Song looked like his soul had been sucked right out of his body.
If the two of them hadn’t made a clean break-if things were still messy and lingering-wouldn’t all her previous efforts have been for nothing?
She could scare Zhang Qiong away, but she couldn’t scare away the version of Zhang Qiong that lived inside Qin Song’s heart.
It was like finding a spider in the house. When the spider is within your sight, you want to drive it away or crush it with a single blow. But if you take a few swings and the spider disappears instead of being squashed, that’s when things get truly terrifying.
Huang Yuanrui felt that Zhang Qiong was just like that annoying spider. She was gone, but the web she had spun was hidden somewhere out of sight.
The fire in Huang Yuanrui’s heart burned hotter and hotter. She picked up a paring knife from the rack and lightly sliced a small cut across the back of her hand.
Placing the knife back, she let out a panicked “Ow!”
She purposely didn’t make it too quiet, or Qin Song wouldn’t hear it, but she didn’t make it too loud either, or it would be too obvious.
It had to be just right. She specifically wanted to see if Qin Song was still paying any attention to her movements.
However, Qin Song disappointed her. Like a deaf patient immersed in his own world, he remained in the same position, staring at his phone.
Huang Yuanrui glanced at his ears; he wasn’t wearing headphones.
The cut on the back of her hand wasn’t deep, and only a tiny bit of blood seeped out. She squeezed it hard, trying to make more blood flow.
She waited quietly for a few more seconds, but Qin Song still didn’t show any sign of moving.
Huang Yuanrui kept telling herself: *Don’t be impulsive. Don’t be impulsive. Think about your original goal. Think about how this was just a test. Now that you have the result, there’s no need for a confrontation…*
However, emotion eventually triumphed over logic. The frustration she had been bottling up since Qin Song walked through the door finally exploded.
Huang Yuanrui rushed to the bedside and slapped the phone out of Qin Song’s hand with a loud *thwack*.
Startled, Qin Song looked up at her with anger in his eyes. “What are you doing?”
Huang Yuanrui thrust the bleeding back of her hand in front of his face. “What am I doing? Look for your damn self!”
Qin Song glanced at her hand. “How did that happen?”
Huang Yuanrui snapped, “I cut it while washing the dishes! Didn’t you hear me just now?”
Qin Song replied, “No, I didn’t.”
